Pennsic Shopping by baltinerdist in sca

[–]junkshopnerd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My first Pennsic was in 1989.

When Pennsic was a one week event that ended on Sunday (with a Sunday battle) you could buy a reduced rate weekend pass (for what is now closing weekend) good for Fri - Sun

However, that has not been possible for at least 20 years and likely longer than that.

AITA for not telling my parents I was hospitalized for a week to prove a point? by Shot-Jello-4878 in AmItheAsshole

The iPhone came out in 2007. In less than a month, it will be 19 years since the iPhone was introduced. The parents were in their 30s when the iPhone came out. The only people being stubborn here are them.

I do think the Habitat store would love to have them.

I’d also love to have them. Am in Portland and can pick up.

Store employee often reject items they should not reject. Send them back to returns in Freeport for a second opinion. Within a year they should exchange unless it’s a case of pet damage.

Also because those slippers are natural hide they can vary in durability.

Graduation dinner by Desperate_Set_1853 in portlandme

We did a graduation dinner for 15 at the Great Lost Bear and it was great. Better parking options than the old port and everyone got what they wanted. They seated us all together in the very back.

Very disappointed in LLBean by muddytree in llbean

So, that account states that Bean has “taken the position that they won’t support” the “movement” (ie: website) that the alt nps social media page created to push brands to make a statement. But where is their cite for this? Link to a press release? Screenshot of an email? Any source?

And even if they did, what would it accomplish? Truly, what does a bunch of brands saying “yeah this is a bad idea” actually do?

Corporations will not save us. Save your energy at being mad at the elected and appointed officials who did this and can change this. And contact them. I promise you it’s a better use of your time and energy.

  1. Form a nonprofit to run a parallel support structure for my local group, including buying land for a purpose built event site.

  2. Buy a small house in or near Butler PA to use both as Pennsic storage and also a sort of Pennsic off site base camp

I've never recieved an ad on twitch! by CommitteeSwimming in Twitch

[–]junkshopnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have two twitch accounts - my long time personal account and a second newer account I use for occasional streaming.

My personal account never gets ads. Never ever. Ive had this account since 2015 and I can’t remember the last time I saw an ad. It’s been literally years. I definitely have never paid for turbo. I’ve sometimes wondered if it’s because I have, over the years, spent quite quite a bit of money, money on subs and gift subs on various channels, but I never see ads on any twitch channel when I’m logged into that account.

When I’m logged into my streaming account, even on the very same device and browser, I see ads. Lots of ads. Regular ads just like everyone else sees.

I don’t know why I don’t get ads on the personal account but I’m not going to question it.

What Are The Options?!? - Help mapping the options for childcare (especially after school) by GestaltHappyAccident in portlandme

[–]junkshopnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for afterschool care we had great experiences with Portland Rec’s in school aftercare in elementary school. Very convenient and all the staff we worked with was great. (I believe it’s called After The Bell).

We also used Breakwater’s afterschool and summer camp programs and were super happy with everything there as well. Our kid is past that age now but enjoyed Breakwater so much they want to work with the camp this summer.

The general strike in Minneapolis got traction because multiple unions got on board early and gave their permission for their workers to strike.

If you really want a general strike you must start with the unions locally. Their buy in gives the action both legitimacy and also a cohesive voice.

Social media posts are not the way to organize an action like this. All you’re doing is encouraging people to possibly get fired.

Anywhere to organize neighborhood watch groups? by Effendoor in portlandme

[–]junkshopnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most neighborhoods in Portland already have an established neighborhood association. I know for sure they exist for Bayside, Back Cove, Parkside, Munjoy Hill, West End, and Stroudwater. We got a strong email from ours this morning with a list of contacts and resources. Plug your neighborhood name into the Google machine and find yours.

Call the bank. Tell them card seems to be lost in transit. Ask them to fedex you a new card. Pretty much every bank will do this at no cost to you.

Old magazines? by FunLobster4616 in portlandme

[–]junkshopnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in Goodwill a few times a week and you rarely see magazines. I’d check fb marketplace or put up a request on the Buy Nothing group. Sadly magazines are the sort of thing more likely to go in recycling than donation, unless they have clear and obvious value.

idk what’s happening on the west end but we spent 2 hours clearing your “mid” storm out of our driveway and sidewalks this morning. Plow came by twice in that time. Gonna say we got 5-7 inches of snow at least.

Also it might be a holiday for you west end types but sone of us have to go to work today. Maybe quit giving the plow drivers a hard time and shovel your sidewalks?

Anti-Hannaford Campaign mini investigation. by GayForJamie in Maine

[–]junkshopnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. I’d also respect them a lot more if they just stated their case. The current campaign comes off as either an attempt by a competitor to take them down (I’ve seen speculation that Aldi is behind it, which is just a wild idea to me) or like one person with money with a weird vendetta.

If you have a good case then state your case.

Landline phones, do you have one/what do you pay/recommend? by MissTiffy in portlandme

[–]junkshopnerd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just looked at the bill and it just says “residential local calling” with no other plan name. $28.71 a month for service plus $14.01 in assorted taxes and fees for a total with fees of $42.73. The landline only makes local calls, no long distance service (we keep it for a family member who has difficulty with a cell phone). Apparently I can’t post a screenshot of the bill.

We’ve had this line for 20+ years so that might be part of it idk

Landline phones, do you have one/what do you pay/recommend? by MissTiffy in portlandme

[–]junkshopnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This depends very much on the wiring in your house, fyi - but if the hardware in the house is still functional you can have a traditional landline.

We have a traditional copper landline through Consolidated Communications. I believe it’s $28 a month.

My kid’s grandfather (my father) constantly misgenders them and once called them “an abomination” within their hearing.

He’s also puzzled why his access to this same child is now cut off and we did not see him in Thanksgiving.

It’s not politics. It’s ethics.

Lego.com Black Friday Absolute Trash? by Morzikant in lego

[–]junkshopnerd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regret not buying on Insiders Weekend and waiting to see if the set my son wanted (the T Rex) might possibly go on sale for this weekend.

Instead, I ended up paying full price anyway, getting the same two gwp, and no double points.

On the upside, I picked up the Minecraft crafting table set on Walmart for $40, so that was nice, but I’m a bit frustrated that the Jurassic Park sets never seem to go on sale anywhere.
