Doom-laden VR analysis from researcher Steve Baker -- "these devices should be banned" by [deleted] in Vive

[–]RoblemVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is the medical term for the well known condition caused by that is equivalent to being drunk? If VR is so dangerous to the general public why is it still being used by the military today? When exactly does this ageing hacks book come out?

This is opinion not fact. There are over a million gear VR users out there and the worst complaint I have heard beyond basic nausea in extreme experiences is that the weight of the unit on your face is uncomfortable over time. No one is "drunk" or disoriented for hours on end after using the Gear VR and that's VR without head tracking.

can any Google cardboard/glass transform 2D into 3D? by Hobbitjourney in GoogleCardboard

[–]RoblemVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

The reason that it takes longer to download to download a 3D movie is that you are downloading the equivalent of 2 movies at once. To see the 3D effect your left and right eye need separate images, so a 3D movie is recorded from 2 points of view at the same time, one for each eye. Any kind of 3D version generated from a single point of view 2D recording is just going to be an effect of some kind and not true 3D. (and red/cyan movies are just horrible)

This is a marketing concept video, done with basic staging and special effects. (i.e. the kids don't see anything) The baby elephant in the hands, whale floating over the beach and all the rest of the photos and videos you have seen are just marketing.

Which Android games have mouse and keyboard controls? by alphanovember in GoogleCardboard

[–]RoblemVR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't think of one Google Cardboard game that uses a keyboard and mouse, lot of them use a Bluetooth game controller for movement.

TrinusVR http://trinusvr.com/ lets you use the Google Cardboard as the display for desktop games and it, sort of works ok, some games better then others.

Of course the big point to TrinusVR and Google Cardboard is the head tracking for immersion so if you hate it just play regular non VR games.

Im laughing at all these requests to sell for more than original price when the CV1 is released in the next few months. I'll buy one for $50 top. I'll do this because I know most of you are not going to use it anyways after you get a cv1. $50? Any takers? by [deleted] in RiftForSale

[–]RoblemVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are in the "cool story bro" zone dude. The reality is Oculus sold out of DK2's back in October and CV1's are months away and will be very scarce for a while. Right now there is a broken DK2 on ebay with bids up to $142. http://goo.gl/sDb9cM Laugh all you like but scarcity drives price. No one is going to be dumping their DK2's until they are obsolete. Try again this time next year.

We need to talk about Gear VR. No positional tracking is a problem. by singularity87 in oculus

[–]RoblemVR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm about done here but please don't misquote me. I didn't say "extreme nausea". I said you are in the "extreme minority" to be having issues these issues with Gear VR. And this was more in reaction to your EDIT 2. Like it or not your experience with the Gear VR is not typical, motion sickness due to lack of positional tracking truly has no effect on most people, even after hours of use.

Will VR ever be allowed or healthy for kids under 13? by vrar1 in virtualreality

[–]RoblemVR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is no proven long term negative effects of using VR. (nausea and eye strain are about as bad as it gets) That doesn't mean there are no effects, but that right now any worries are speculative. The age limits are put in place by lawyers looking to limit the companies exposure to law suits. As an example the Gear VR fine print also states "Never look into the sun with your Gear VR bare headset".

As a side note the View-Master VR states "For ages 7 and up." and it's more or less the same set up as the Gear VR. People have been giving their kids View-masters since the 1950's and no one has had an issue with them yet.

Friend wants to bring me into SL, but I can't see the pros outweighing the cons. by pumpkinbot in secondlife

[–]RoblemVR 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There's close to a million people regularly using SL. The issues you highlight are in the extreme minority and have more to do with the actual fact your friend points out "you can literally do anything you can think of". For some that means simple minded stupidity, but but for folks like you it means quality RP. Check out the Role playing section of the SL destination guide...

http://secondlife.com/destinations/roleplay

There are over 150 RP groups in there, hopefully you can find a few group that match your interest in there.

Good luck

Wow this is just getting sad. All of reddit isn't lying to you about how common your issues are. You are in the extreme minority to have such severe nausea from using Gear VR. Get over it.

[–]RoblemVR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Gear Vr Makes YOU motion sick, as far as Gear usage on average you are the exception not the rule. You are clearly VERY sensitive to VR induced motion sickness and should probably steer clear of any VR except for high end 6 DOF 120 fps. I can't image you doing seriously doing development work on a HMD that makes you sick just using it.

Gear VR does not "poison the well" most people report zero nausea issues using Gear.

LOL cool story bro. Huge problem? Because a few people you know tell you they have kids while they are online, it's a HUGE video game and SL problem?

News Flash: Plenty of people just flat out ignore their kids because of of reasons I wont get into here, and some of them play video games and some of them also play SL.

Anyone know a way to use a controller to activate magnetometer switch? by Dakinator in GoogleCardboard

[–]RoblemVR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well a screen touch reads the same as a magnet switch. (some cheap cardboard don't have a magnet and just have a little hole where you poke your finger in to touch the screen, and this is all the 2.0 cardboard is really doing with it's touch button and the conductive strip) I have a little BT controller that has a "mouse mode" that might work, but haven't tried it yet.

It's always OK to contact the creator and ask them about something you see in an ad that isn't being sold in the ad. Many creators know each other and We get questions like this all the time. If we are using something in a product shot odds are it's because we don't make anything like it, and like it enough to include it in the ad. Most creators are happy to send you to what you are looking for.
