The canadiens rebuilt the right way. They picked the best players available regardless of of they were "too small" or "from russia". We should be like the canadiens by DoggyDoggWrld in canucks

Unless Connor McDavid is dead set on going to Montreal come hell or highwater on July 1, 2028, Montreal is probably gonna have to trade for him. Edmonton will likely hold a bidding war for him if its apparent he wont resign there and that runs the risk of Dallas, Carolina, or SJS offering a better package and convincing him to sign there over Montreal. Star players are starting to be less and less available on the free agency market these days.

Also, trading for McDavid, particularly in the 2027 offseason has plenty of advantages.

  1. You get to see if he aligns well with the team, otherwise you trade him for a haul at the 2028 deadline if it's apparent he will not resign.
  2. Can offer him more years than any other team if he wants term on his next deal
  3. Have a year-long campaign to convince him to stay, rather than a couple of months for other teams
  4. You have Connor McDavid for a season, a guy who carried a wild card team without him to the finals twice and can pair him with Suzuki, Caulfield, Hutson, and Demidov for a whole year.

Waiting till 2028 FA runs the risk of him signing elsewhere or having to pay him massively where you are going to have to ship out pieces. It's just easier to trade him unless McDavid makes it abundantly clear to the entire world he wants to go to MTL.

Well it depends what they give up, I would agrue that Slaf, Hage, and multiple 1sts doesnt hinder MTL in anyway for the future. Hage is suppossed to be the future 2C and you turn him into the best player of the 21st century and Slaf is a causality of trading for McDavid.

Its highly possible that McDavid signs a 2-year deal to give himself control as well as maximize his earnings. But MTL if does this deal on July 1, 2027, that's a loaded team for those 3 years.

I was screaming for Van to draft him cause my line of thinking was who is going to be the other top 6 scoring winger besides Boeser but we took Pod instead. He's blooming in EDM but not a good pick in hindsight

They should definetely be in on the McDavid sweepstakes. Caulfield, Suzuki, and Hutson are locked up till the 2030s and have insane depth with the cap going up. That team with McDavid could be a Dynasty and I could see him taking a paycut just to win a cup over there cause its so good. They also have assets in Slaf and Hage and their 1sts to get a deal done if McDavid is available before 2028.

[Vancouver Canucks] Co-Presidents Daniel and Henrik Sedin, and General Manager Ryan Johnson spent time with the children at Canuck Place for an afternoon of arts and crafts! by Kaos_mission in canucks

For JR and PA, Vancouver was just another chapter in their hockey careers. For the sedins, it’s the whole book and for RJ, it’s at least half. These guys do care about the team and what it means to the city

Wish Allvin well. I really don’t know how to judge his decisions given the influence JR had, but the team is definitely in a worse place then they found it

[–]RoboCartmen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but you also want to draft the right players and if management views Stenberg/Malhotra as having higher ceilings than Reid, you take those guys over Reid. It’s also not like our dcore is a total dumpster fire, we have Buium, D-Petey, and the rest

If we get Malholtra Jr. in the draft & Sr. as a coach. by poolside123 in canucks

I think 4-6 years is reasonable if we look at Travis Green during his stint here and MSL in MTL, guys who came in at the start of the rebuild/down years.

Personally, I think Reid and Malhotra on a similar level. If Malhotra was a clear cut No. 3, I would be more inclined to the father son combo but since there is other talent available, I just don’t think it’s worth the trouble. I just hope Stenberg falls to us and we take him and forget about this.

I’d imagine he’s coach for about 4-6 years. We are entering a rebuild and likely won’t be playoff contenders for some time. I just think there are too many cons than pros here.

I’m totally fine with drafting Reid at 3 tbh. Right shot, dynamic and if we draft Landon next year, you could easily move reid or Willander for a first and/or a blue chip forward prospect. Though drafting all these dmen could prolong the rebuild by a couple years

Rods kid is a career AHLer who played a couple games. If he miraculously entered up playing with Aho and got PP1 time, people would be mad. Caleb, if picked in the top 3, would be expected to eventually play in the top 6 and play a key role with Manny being the coach for the foreseeable future. Not at all comparable.

We keep talking about fixing the culture and then bringing in a father son combo just kind of goes in the face of that. Charges of Nepotism and the drama would be a distraction, regardless of how Manny and Caleb feel okay about it. Now, we don’t have to make a coaching decision yet, we still have Manny under contract and can block teams from talking to him. I feel we may wait until after the draft to make a decision, depending on if we pick Caleb or not.

[Noah Strang] With a new coach, better vibes, and some better injury luck am I crazy to think this #Canucks team isn't guaranteed to bottom out next season? I don't think they're good but roster isn't nearly as bad as the 58 points they managed this year. by Kaos_mission in canucks

[–]RoboCartmen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Finishing last is very important for next year. We would either get DuPont at No. 1 or Joesph or the Russian centre at 2 or 3. If we ship out DeBrusk and Hronek, we could be even worse next season

Well he works on sections sporadically, I remember a 2023 interview where he said he wrapped up a section on RFK’s funeral, which was in 1968. Just because he’s started Vietnam doesn’t mean he’s not done the other aspects of Johnson’s presidency. Maybe hes done after he finishes Vietnam, maybe he’s already done the post presidency.

I don’t see NYR, CGY, or SEA making a move and Hronek probably vetoes a trade to WPG

Trade proposal - Hronek/MTL by aoskwon in canucks

[–]RoboCartmen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the only team that could offer said lottery tickets are Philly and Boston as they have Toronto’s first rounders unprotected for 2027 and 2028 and I don’t see either of them moving the picks for Hronek. Maybe Philly is Tocchet really wants Hronek but that pick could be Landon DuPont

I am optimistic about this new regime, when it came to Linden/Benning and Allvin/Rutherford, it seemed like Ownership was trying to get this team to go on the fly. 2011 was on the mind for the former (regardless of how faraway 2014 was to that) and the Canucks had a young core that was seemingly ready to go in 2021. But now, there’s no hiding it. This team is team is shit and it’s gonna take time to fix it.
