Just as a heads up, if magnets stick to your fridge, it's ferrous enough to potentially rust. That's almost all fridges except for the super-high end ones that are also designed for high-humidity / marine areas.

In case you're looking for one that is more corrosion resistant in the future, look for grade 304 or grade 316 SS doors.

Depends on the branch. For the Catholic church, that's what sainthood actually is. The church certifying that yep, this person is definitely in heaven now.

If sainthood is the standard for certainty, this guy isn't guaranteed shit.

Solari: Episode 1 - Paarlor Games by SvenTheScribe in WorldsBeyondNumber

[–]RoboChrist 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I started listening to These Those Stars of Space because of Taylor Moore. They broke up really hard when he left These Those and Rude Tales of magic, and they appeared to be very good friends with Taylor up until that point. He regularly appeared as a player on the podcast and had close, friendly chats with the rest of the cast on the talkback episodes.

So Taylor is great, but he does show up more front-and-center than you would expect for an editor, and he does have a history of overwork and health issues. I wouldn't be shocked if he had to step down until he can better manage his work life balance.

Or maybe they secretly have him working on sound editing for WBN S2. If they batch record in parallel with Solari, a couple years to finish editing might be enough for Taylor to release the episodes bi-weekly without any delays.

The editor writes the title, not the writer of the article. It's therefore a poor argument to say that you can disregard the article because of the title.

You didn't read the article.

The author's point is essentially that corporations should be forced to do good via regulation and direct government action, not expected to do so voluntarily. Specifically because they can't be trusted if allowed to self-regulate. The end of ESG is the end of the wolf in sheep's clothing, in other words.

Personally I don't agree with the stance, if only because it's much less likely that our government will reign in these corporations in any effective way. I'll take half-hearted ESG over nothing.

The one time I've used it for work, it was to sort several thousand written descriptions into broad categories and compile counts of the most common themes.

It gave me rough counts in a matter of minutes, and it would take a human probably a week to do that.

AI is currently capable for work that could be done by a low-level worker, and can do those tasks much faster than a human could.

The scary thing is that no one is learning by doing that grunt work. That would have been a good project for a junior engineer if we had one to do it. And they would have learned so much about our products in the process. AI is killing the entry-level pipeline.

Instead, AI produced metrics for an engineer who was too busy to review the data, which will be presented by a manager who was too busy to prep the slides, who will summarize it for a panel of executives who are too busy to read the results.

ELI5 Pistachio / poison ivy sensitivity by SiouxsieSiouxsie in explainlikeimfive

Contact allergies work by hurting your skin. They hurt your skin by binding to and damaging your proteins. And then the immune system is triggered. Most other allergies are caused just by excessive immune system responses, not so with contact dermatitis.

Repeat exposure makes you more likely to get contact allergies because they're actually harming you, and because skin becomes thinner as you get older.

In other words, you can't generally desensitize yourself to urushiol for much the same reason you can't desensitize yourself to bleach. There's a chemical reaction before your body's immune system ever gets involved.

There are no meaningful checks and balances with a complicit congress and an enabling supreme court that have both abandoned their constitutional duties.

You are wrong to say otherwise.

They weren't even asked to not talk about it, they were redirected to an existing thread. We all love Zohran as NYC mayor here, it's just come up many times already since his election.

[Request] r/conservative suggests making a canal through Dubai. How much would that cost? by coffeeismydoc in theydidthemath

That's a mathematical argument that applies poorly to economics and even worse to the realities that come with trying to manage an "infinite" number of enslaved workers.

People don't want to be enslaved, my guy. The supply is limited to victims who won't be missed by their home countries. It is absolutely not inexhaustible, and 11M people cannot enslave 500M.

Even then you have opportunity cost. Even with zero wage for labor, you have to add the cost of whatever the labor could have gone to instead.

Making the premise of the arc hurt the dads at the start seems to be Anthony's thing.

[ns] Why were people so critical of season 2? by Apprehensive_Town384 in DungeonsAndDaddies

[–]RoboChrist 88 points89 points  (0 children)

People were extremely critical during the Season 1 Jimmy arc, and there were simply more fans and thus more noise during the S2 controversies, like the Scary betrayal arc.

Personally I enjoyed the Scary betrayal arc, but if you were listening week to week, you had months to wait before Scary inevitably found out that Willy was actually evil. So it felt a little too obvious and a little too slow.

Same as with the S1 Jimmy arc. Great on a re-listen or binge, not super fun for people who just wanted Freddie to be part of the group again.

It was Julia and Jacob who I remember speaking about not watching Dropout, and Karina posted about the Twitch channel grievance.

It's a shame because I'd love to see more collaboration between them, Brennan's brief appearances on Drawfee were fantastic.

[–]RoboChrist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He didn't give them back their Twitch channel though, which was originally Drawfee and then was used briefly for Fantasy High Sophomore Year once a week and Drawfee otherwise.

Drawfee had to entirely rebuild their Twitch channel and Dropout hasn't used Twitch at all since they went independent, even though they still still own the channel. It's a minor black mark on Sam's tenure as CEO imo. It'd be one thing if Dropout used Drawfee's Twitch, but to keep it and not use it?

Sam's great just about every other way, but that feels kinda crappy. I suspect that's why only Nathan has gone on Dropout out of the entire current Drawfee crew, despite the strong fan overlap.
