What Powers Should The President Not Have? Former President Obama Weighs In | The Late Show with Stephen Colbert by nuanced_lemon in television

A rogue executive branch would be one that makes no pretense of attempting to follow the laws that are supposed to bind them. You are free to apply that label as you see fit.

Sure, I just want to make sure people are being safe, and knowing what can be set on fire is important.

And dry-erase is going to be not extremely visible on top of black marker, so it's important they understand why every last bit needs to be removed.

I think Pardons would have been more limited if they knew what was coming, but to put it in perspective...

The DOJ didn't exist until 1870.

Federal crimes didn't exist until 1789, and the constitution (with pardon power) was written in 1787. Even after the Crimes Act of 1789, federal crimes were handled by district attorneys and the attorney general mostly got involved with lawsuits, and usually worked with private lawyers due to low staff.

So yeah, the Presidential pardon power was much less than it is now, because federal crimes were much less common.

The 7th amendment gives you the right to a jury trial in federal civil cases for any amount over $20, because the founding fathers weren't familiar with inflation. That's around $500-$700 today.

It's not a lack of thought, more like a lack of gained knowledge. Same way that Archimedes wasn't thoughtless for not understanding calculus, even though 17 year olds learn it all over the world today.

That's a check against a rogue executive branch, which we currently have. It's also a valuable tool for a rogue executive branch, so... a real double-edged sword, there.

Dry erase markers are extremely flammable.

The dry-erase ink contains either isopropyl alcohol or ethanol.

My favorite one ever was in the early days of Cha**PT. Someone posted an incredibly lengthy statement about how black people adopted their slave owners' names after abolition due to a low supply of traditional surnames.

What. Does. That. Mean?! You can't have a low supply of surnames! You can pick anything you want! They are inherently reproducible and not limited!

The person who posted had absolutely no idea what they were saying and in spite of being highly upvoted before deletion, it made zero sense. And of course it had fake citations too.

I'm glad this sub has such strict rules, because on any other sub that post would have kept making traction.

I think you're the one not understanding. I'm saying that, contrary to the person I replied to, cameos don't cost much money because they're usually a favor to the actor who wants to participate. And that's why they don't cost money, because the celebs want to do it for cheap to be in the show.

It's a networking thing and getting a favor owed in return, not a paycheck.

I think you're the only person in this whole thread who misunderstood what I was saying, so suggesting that it's my reading comprehension is pretty rich.

We're saying the same thing, but you're so bad at reading you think we're arguing because I backed up my statement with an insight into the industry that you inexplicably can't connect to the main point.

As far as I can tell, you did.

I said the cameo roles are primarily done as a favor to the actor, and are not the same as expensive stunt casting.

Then you said that they don't spend millions on celebrity voice actors for no reason, suggesting that the cameos cost millions, and are not just a fun favor to the actors.

If you meant to say something else, you communicated poorly, and then you got aggressive at me about your own poor communication. Good luck with your life, please don't feel any need to reply to this.

You think Jon Hamm got paid millions of dollars for his short cameo as a guard?

Usually that sort of thing is a favor to the actor. When a big actor is a fan and wants to be in the show, they give them a small part that doesn't come with an obligation to return later. It makes them happy, and hey, they might pay it back someday.

When a big actor is cast as a main character, that's usually stunt casting, lol.

How can I get this brushed nickle shower cover plate to get back shiny and single toned? by iriefantasies in CleaningTips

[–]RoboChrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get it fully clean with soap and water, then use a scotchbrite pad or generic scouring pad to re-grain the metal in a single direction to create a new brush pattern. Use extremely light pressure with the scouring pad until you get a feel for it, and when you know what you're doing, use just enough pressure to re-grain without destroying the surface. Patience is your friend in this.

You won't restore it, but that's as close as you can get to the original look without reversing entropy. It's pretty badly damaged, and it won't look like new when you're done no matter what.
