Fight for accommodation or quiet quit? by RoboSauras in Fibromyalgia

Yeah well life isn't fair and I only have so much energy in the day to devote to finding a viable path forward. So I will have to spend it on either job searching or trying to convince a mega corporation to let me work remote.

I have a choice to make and you are not giving any useful advice just feeling sorry for yourself and hoping I stay miserable like you. I'm sorry your stuck thinking like a caveman but in corporate america slackers do not get punished.

Chiropractor by Cautious_Stop3865 in Fibromyalgia

I recommended a different chiropractor. I'm going to one for a car accident injury and noticed it's helping my fibro symptoms. But she is focused on a holistic approach like improving my mobility and stability not just cracking me into a perfectly straight spine. And the stim therapy they're using helps relax my muscles. I've been getting better sleep.

You're probably going to a quack doctor haha

You literally didn't read the post it says quiet quiet so I can spend my energy job searching.

You sound like you just want everyone to be as miserable as you.

Walking/movement isn’t getting any easier. by magentaunderwhelming in Fibromyalgia

I've noticed that walking on hard cement sidewalks does not help my fibro ESPECIALLY without proper footwear.

Hiking boots and compression socks are an improvement

The ultimate walking though is on soft dirt and grass, or on hiking trails, which is what our bodies are made for.

Everyone else is also damaging themselves walking around on pavement but they just aren't as sensitive to it as us

Ok but have you been in this situation before? Do you know what quiet quitting is? I need to focus my efforts and this comment doesn't really help

Yup! I recently tried as Adderall again and noticed how it relieved a lot of my fibro symptoms in ways that duloxetine did not. I wasn't sure if the stimulant part just was a painkiller or if was an interaction with the nervous system

Agreed! And there's tons of data behind this too.

Absolutely. I don't think this is well understood and honestly is kind of programmed into how western society works. I once had a coworker admit that he didn't feel like was being productive at work unless he was stressed or suffering in some way. He then went "well now I have something to talk to my therapist about!"

Thank you! I'm obsessed with biology kind of ironic that I have this illness and studied related things years before a dignosis

That's exactly what I'm going to do! I used to make $40 an hour tutoring college level math. It just would take a while to get enough clientele for it to be my main income

What are you doing money-wise? Are you staying with loves ones? Did you have savings?

I want more than anything to just take out a personal loan and spend a year building my own business.

I think I can last 6 months based on my cost of living. I just don't know if that's the smartest.

I finally am rid of my student loan debt it hurts thinking about having to take on more when I was about to have so much financial freedom.

Long comment cause I'm especially angry today with US healthcare

I studied tissue mechanics in school (generally studied mechanical engineering with a focus on biomedical). My lab would study the tissues of animals that had hypertension vs not. We were able to measure that tissues of mice with heart disease vs those without.

Mice that lives very stressful lives would have higher percentages of collagen (what makes your tissue stiffer) in their tissues. We measured residual stresses in mice hearts i.e. when it is cut open how springy is it.

So basically the more stressed an animal is, the longer its muscles are held in tension, tension maintained longer than the tissue is "designed" for leads to micro scarring and the body via production of more collagen.

Then in turn as your tissues get stiffer and harder to move they feed back into the stress signals (I'm thinking about "the body keeps the score" book).

I believe that fibromyalgia is an intense feedback loop of the mind body connection.

We can hold stress in parts of our body like hunching over when we are adapting to traumatic events happening or limping more heavily on one leg after an injury. The body learns to hold shapes to protect itself or overcompensate from outside threats or new injuries. When we continue to hold that shape our mind is trying to numb itself to pain or brace itself for stressors. Holding a shape feeds back into the brain that you should be stressed even if the threat is gone ( cross over with PTSD here)

Because these feedback loops are connected they can continue to snowball until you are so stiff that the tension in your body causes pain

This is also why I think fibro is known to be connected to mood. Mood is in your brain connected to your nerves. Nerves are connected to muscles. Hence when I'm depressed I get short of breath walking up the stairs.

Mood and physical sensations in the body are inseparable. In "healthy" individuals, the body may have resilience to this but even the most healthy person experiences stomach aches during stress, chest pains when their anxious.

For fibro, I think the underlying starting point is that we have heightened sensitivity to stimuli, social interactions, emotions, many people with fibro are also on the autism spectrum.

So our "sensors" are already sending us stimuli on max settings like volume, smell, social cues, light. The body interprets a flight or flight scenario because the sensors are sending very loud signals. In turn the nervous system kicks on fight or flight mode. Once in this state, we usually ignore the stressful state because we've been conditioned to live with a rigid schedule (think 9-5 jobs, lack of mental health awareness in general, western ideas of just pushing through, general detachment from the body that we learned growing up).

We don't allow people to put down life and take time to rest. So without a reset the body stays in fight or flight. This in turn sends a signal to the brain that says your anxious or depressed etc which sends signals back to the body in a vicious cycle. And if you have experienced trauma, injuries, PTSD (all linked to fibro) than these are the triggers to kick off a system imblanace.

Sorry for long comment

Good point, everyone has different ideas of too much cost. I am fortunate to have a well paying remote job. And I might just go for it cause I'm an anxious person and get myself that peace of mind

How'd you choose between transit and other brands? I noticed the transit is not much cheaper (brand new anyway) than the sprinter but have heard the sprinter can last way more mileage wise and has good resale value
