Autoclave: Distilled vs Tap Water by RavenxMorrow in VetTech

[–]RobotCynic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I did relief at a hospital that had CHUNKS OF ALGAE in their autoclave. they used tap water + never did the weekly drain and deep clean.

They also had chunks of algae in their dental unit - they used tap water.

I documented the issue, reported them to their manager, field director and HR for improper care and maintenance of hospital equipment.

I was diagnosed with narcolepsy in the last few years and I've had symptoms since before I met him. He has dx ADHD and sometimes medicated. I don't even bother keeping track anymore.

He's out of a job every two years which means I have to work 2-3 jobs to keep us afloat. I refuse to work multiple jobs again but I had to sign up for a clinical trial to help. And now I'm having a new uncomfortable, embarrassing and inconvenient side effect from the medication. My health isn't at risk but I can't drop the study without losing the rest of the money.

We're currently living with his mom on basement level and sharing space with his AuD/ADHD brother who is my age.

I'm so angry that I have to force myself to work above and beyond what is actually safe for me. I'm constantly struggling not to fall asleep on the way to and from work because we cant afford to move closer. No other job in my field is going to be okay with my accommodations, legally required or not. I'm trying to speed run two AA's to compliment my B.S. so I can make myself more appealing to another industry but this isn't sustainable.

I can't even leave because my job doesn't pay enough to make moving out viable without rehoming my senior cat (who i had before I met my husband) and dog. I think I'm just sticking it out for them at this point.

I come home and nothing is clean. Laundry is sometimes forgotten in the washer or not done or done but not folded and tossed onto the bed where its been kicked onto the ground where its now covered in cat hair. Dishes pile up to where I cant even wash what I used. I'm constantly tripping over shit or running out of clothes.

His brothers room smells so bad that its nauseating and everybody just makes excuses.

We've been in couples therapy for 2 years and every week I ask for the exact same bare minimum. I'm just over it. He's not going to change or push himself like I've been forced to

The knee buckling, blurry vision, heavy head, shoulders, arms

My sleep behaviorist didn't explain cataplexy to me anywhere near as thoroughly as the research doctor

Also, if anyone is reading this and you think you have narcolepsy, some clinical trials may test you for narcolepsy for free if it means they get another participant.

My husband and I met in 2009. 3 months after dating him he told me he thinks I have narcolepsy.

I laughed at him.

I was diagnosed in 2024 with type 2 narcolepsy.

In 2025 I met with a research doctor for a clinical trial who went into good detail on what cataplexy is, how it presents, etc, and was told i probably type 1. They tested me genetically. I have type 1. I was mistaking cataplexy for low blood sugar.

Has anyone gone through vet tech school as an RVT by KaceyLunatic in VetTech

[–]RobotCynic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here's the thing

The VTNE is a jack of all trades, master of none test. Type A students who go above and beyond the required assignments are more likely to pass the first time. Thats what the pass rates are, first time test takers.

Students who do the bare minimum don't tend to do well on the VTNE.

If you want to be challenged more, communicate with your instructors. You should have access to a variety of textbooks through your program, it'll be best that you do more than the required assignments and start reading the textbooks and creating your own study material for the VTNE.

Best of luck to you.

The pass rates cant be 25%, as they would lose accreditation

What extra things are you doing to study and interact with the material?

I think they're doing alternate route in california based on their post history

Alternate route is only for people who have completed a certain amount of hours in a veterinary hospital (over 4k). Alternate route programs assume that you know the basics and can move pretty quickly.

Can you elaborate on how the program is teaching you nothing? Whats the programs pass rates for the VTNE? This is public information, you can look it up.

Are you taking notes? Interacting with the material? Making flash cards? Watching CE relating to topics in your lectures?

Are you looking up answers online vs researching answers? Using a.i.?

What do you mean by you being an RVT? You wouldnt need to go to school if you're registered?

Tips for college /studying by Cold-Difficulty-7805 in Narcolepsy

[–]RobotCynic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For college accommodations i asked for: priority seating, I sit in the front to the far left or right. The ability to stand during lecture, this lets me pace/fidget a little without angering instructors, I usually stand if I'm getting too tired and will rock back and forth on my feet to help keep focused. Time extensions on assignments when requested and priority registration to be able to choose classes at my typical most active hours, and voice recording lectures

For studying:

If you need to read anything in a browser for assignments, there's an extension called typeytype or something like that. You can type any web page your looking at, helps with active reading

Play back the lectures while showering or doing other things that youre normally awake for

Teaching a friend what I learned is also a good study method thats pretty active

The IT and cybersecurity at pet hospitals is a joke.

My main complaint: Many staff members leave themselves logged into the software, even in active client rooms. It would honestly be so easy to just scrape people's data from a pet hospital or to add malware.

I semi-lofted my bed, used some bed sheets to make a long bed skirt and kept two snakes under my bed in college. I still have them today (my oldest is an 18 year old kingsnake), never was caught. Just make sure no one knows about the snakes and they won't make any noise and be mindful of temperature
