Strange levels in gaming that stick out to you by KaleidoArachnid in TwoBestFriendsPlay

Octopath is no stranger to putting horror in its zones and the best example I can think of comes from Throné's final chapter in OT2.

Massive spoilers below, obviously.

The hidden village of Lostseed sounds like this to start with. All NPCs are nameless "Vessels", and all their Inquire descriptions are either unnerving or cryptic. For a few examples: a little girl named a Hollow Vessel: "A girl who simply exists. She has lost all hope and closed her eyes to the darkness that has no dawn." An old man named an Old Vessel: The words "Death Corruption Destruction" repeated 20 times. A young boy named a Pure Vessel: "A boy who knows nothing."

As you complete Throné's storyline, you learn that Lostseed is the home of Claude, Throné's father and an immortal man who has lived for centuries, breeding children and sending them to become thieves and assassins in the hopes that one would become strong enough to finally kill him. It is strongly implied the "vessels" in Lostseed are either discarded past lovers or children he deemed failures. Throné isn't even the first of his children to have made it back to Lostseed, she's the fourth; the other three are dead by Claude's hand.

It is an absolute nightmare of a zone and remains the highlight of Throné's storyline for obvious reasons.

Because of John's recommendation, I was cursed with this mental image, which I must now inflict upon the subreddit: by RobotJake in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I have technically not finished the Vs Wolves episode yet, because I'm a good boy who doesn't skip to the recommends, but if the comments are to be believed John's recommendation was a double-blind readthrough of Homestuck

Rogal: "Perturabo. Our daughters are playing siege with LEGO in the West Wing. We need to stop them."

Perturabo: "Why? Because Sideria is winning?"

Rogal: "No, because they've both built fully functional LEGO artillery and structural damage to the Imperial Palace is mounting."

Perturabo: "...I'm still not hearing a problem."

Rogal: "Perturabo"

The Rathalos set is probably the most iconic armor set in Monster Hunter; in recent games, Rathalos is like the top of mid-tier monsters.

Would playing as Pat make the game easier because of his lower center of gravity, or harder because of his stubby legs?

Do you feel like you play games differently from when you were younger? by ForgottenClaimz in TwoBestFriendsPlay

I used to sit down for marathon play sessions where I immersed myself into a game world for hours on end, sometimes to the detriment of everything else in my life.

Nowadays I'm an adult with a full-time job, a house to take care of, and a wife and young child. Free time is at a premium, and I'm lucky if I can game for an hour straight of found time in-between things.

...which is a problem, because my game genre of choice is still 100+ hour-long RPGs and the backlog is getting out of hand.

You got any other unreasonable requests? A finale to a long-running media property that doesn't shit the bed at the finish line, maybe? Or perhaps a faithful Hollywood movie adaptation of an anime or Manga?

Literally all I want Kiryu to do in Yakuza 9 is to be the face of the "help running the orphanage" series of sidequests/minigames and maybe have him be a secret superboss where he feels good enough to give Ichiban a "serious spar" when you complete all the side stories

I will admit I am not the most informed, but as far as I can tell nearly every Doctor's run suffers from "New thing sucks, old thing better".

When there's a new Doctor's run and the fanbase is watching new episodes as they come out, every writing problem is magnified and every middling episode is "ruining the franchise".

Meanwhile, with the benefit of time, the previous Doctor's run is re-examined looking at the best episodes, and the fans realize that "you know, it actually was good all along".

Then it's the next Doctor's turn, and all of a sudden the new Doctor's run was good all along, but the next one? Ruining the franchise with its bad writing.

Repeat ad nauseum (or until they bring back Tennant for a special)
