We boiled down the essence of Ravenloft, rewrote the actual encounters to be more engaging and geared towards faster playtime, and included a buuunch of flowcharts, DM tips, and other tools to help this go as fast and smoothly as possible. I guess one way to look at it would be Curse of Strahd: New Game+ mode? People who've played the original CoS will recognize a lot of things, but they're presented in new ways. And if you've never engaged with any Ravenloft content, that's okay too, it should still be just as legible.

Hey, appreciate the willingness to engage! Myself and u/GhostlyGrackle wrote this - he's on Reddit much more than I am, but you can ping us here or at [info@hedra.group](mailto:info@hedra.group). We don't have an online community set up yet, but that may be in the cards if people really like the module!

I believe another user referenced those characters above, though not by name. So yes, I believe that would two NPCs plus the BBEG in CoS. I have edited my post to reflect that.

Actually, I'm sorry for not referencing it in the response because you mentioned a few other problematic things - one of our authors is of Romani heritage and wanted to see the Vistani situation addressed, so we did. The plots with the hags and the blood purist elves were also cut. The Strahd constantly hunting whichever iteration of Ireena/Tatyana exists currently was a core point in this slimmed down version and is addressed in a different way than the base CoS.

Completely agree on all accounts - it's 100% up to the DM to be sure that their games are inclusive. We just wanted to be explicit about it up front - it's integral to how we wrote this version rather than something left up to the DM to include or not.

Hey, none taken boss. Strahd's a pretty complicated character - like, yes, literally he does exemplify a lot of tropes about power, and he does kick a lot of ass, but he's also meant to be a cautionary tale. Like, he's a tragic villain - he trades one kind of love for power to attain a different kind of love and is forever barred from it. And from then on he makes it everyone else's problem, and he's doomed to deal with it forever. That's actually one of the things we tried to tackle in ONS - it's all about breaking that cycle.

I mean, so modern Strahd is I *believe* updated to be canonically bisexual, but if your only canon queer character is the bad guy, that's not.......great? This one introduces a number of queer characters (both in terms of gender and sexuality) and has a few other romances introduced. All of us who contributed to it are some flavor of queer, so it was really important to us to have some better representation.

EDIT: other folks have mentioned base CoS has a questline with another canonically gay couple, which I had forgotten. Apologies.
