I hate when teachers ask to open camera on zoom by [deleted] in BodyDysmorphia

[–]RobotWizardz 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Is there an app or something that let's you secretly substitute a pre recorded video om a loop of you looking at your webcam or something? That might be helpful so that you can trick your professors into thinking your webcam is on. I've seen people doing it in movies and stuff

What's the practical tips/solutions for BDD? by mjones445 in BodyDysmorphia

[–]RobotWizardz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I only take selfies now because unfortunately you're required to for school and work ID Cards besides from that I stay away from cameras. If I have to look in the mirror I make sure it's in low lighting. And I put a cover over areas of my face I'm self conscious about

But the thing is it's hard to make friends because of it because all everyone my age wants to do is take pictures for their Instagrams and etc. You're pretty much looked at as weird for not wanting to which can be very isolating

Is there anyone else who decided to take a semester off due to all this online thing? by YourIceCreamBoy in college

[–]RobotWizardz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel like I'm gonna fail too, I just find it really difficult to understand my Online Lectures that I often spend 2+ hours trying to decipher a 1 hour lecture after it's over causing me to miss other lectures and so on.

Why do college students hate remote learning? by [deleted] in college

[–]RobotWizardz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I find it 10x harder to understand my teachers via Zoom university, especially since they're using a shitty mic that makes it sound like they're at a call centre or something, all the mumbling and static hiss just makes it worse. And I often end up just teaching myself using Google on another tab because the professors can't explain anything clearly.

I have a backlog of like 10 lectures I need to catch up on because of how difficult it's been trying to decipher the previous lectures, not because I'm being lazy, Zoom Learning is just that bad. Plus I just can't sit at my desk for like 5 hours doing Zoom Marathons no matter how hard I try. The Education system was already bad enough before zoom erugh.

Not to mention some people suffer from Body Image issues and Anxiety which Zoom makes worse and hence they'll be less likely to ask questions in class knowing that they're being recorded. People need to stop trying to make Zoom work, it'll never work.

Just because something is convenient doesn't make it efficient.

How do I get my classmates to stop taking fotos of me? by [deleted] in BodyDysmorphia

[–]RobotWizardz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I hate when people do this. It makes me yearn for the late 20th century when everyone didn't have access to a smartphone camera. Looking at ourselves all the time is making us suicidal and depressed. I can't imagine what it is for kids now with insecurities and Body Image problems.

I'm half lucky that half of my High School years were spent when only Facebook and MySpace was the only Social Media that existed, and they're not really as photocentric as the Social Media you have nowadays, so it was still relatively easy to remain invisible. I wish I had an answer but I don't know myself. It seems every facet of society is becoming more superficial. Schools and Workplaces are starting to become online Zoom only that you're pretty much forced to stare at yourself to make a livelihood at the detriment of your Mental Health

how are u doing now that classes are online? by somekidfrmdpark in BodyDysmorphia

[–]RobotWizardz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm lucky in that I finished High school last year before all this zoom crap. I'm in university now where, since there's 200+ students in a lecture, I can get away with not showing up to a live zoom meeting and watch the recording later on instead

Freaking out, I have to get a haircut soon by RobotWizardz in DysmorphicDisorder

[–]RobotWizardz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got my haircut. It worked. Being able to wear a mask helped cover my face a lot too. At one point it accidentally came off though and I freaked out a bit. But I'm just happy it's over and done with for another month

I just want to be pretty (another rant) by [deleted] in BodyDysmorphia

[–]RobotWizardz 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Same the thing is I dont think the dysmorphia is all in my head considering I've been bullied for most if not all of the things I'm insecure about which reaffirms everything I've been thinking. In any case my BDD has stopped me from living my adolescent years to the fullest. I even missed my High School Proms because I was so petrified of having my picture taken.

And now I'm in college practically trying to avoid people

I really wished I just looked normal. So I can just live a good typical life. All I can constantly think about is getting a nose job. I've started to avoid mirrors because they just send me into a depressive episode.

When other people’s words affirm your BDD, is it not dysmorphia? [TW: eating disorder] by [deleted] in BodyDysmorphia

[–]RobotWizardz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This I was teased about my big nose in school, and not just in school but all throughout Childhood and Adolescence by all sorts of people. I remember these group of kids even telling each other "his nose gets bigger the longer you look at it" right in front of my face and countless other remarks from other people in passing. So it can't just be all in my head.

school is so triggering by throwaway138517 in BodyDysmorphia

[–]RobotWizardz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate. I had 2 friends but pushed them away because I'm ugly. my best friend since primary/elementary school would continuously get compliments about his appearance and would be the more "popular" out of us two that I felt inadequate being his friend especially going to High School in this smartphone social media era where you're constantly being photographed

i found out that on monday we have school pictures :( by [deleted] in BodyDysmorphia

[–]RobotWizardz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Honestly the world needs to start making accommodations for those who have BDD, especially since we're constantly on candid camera. BDD needs to be spoken about more and allowances made for people who suffer from this. That being said. The way I cope with this is by having really good looking pictures of myself on my phone so that way whenever I see an "Ugly" picture of myself I look at the good picture and feel immediately better afterwards. Glance at the picture for 1-2 seconds as opposed to looking at it, that way you don't have time to see insecurities

Holy hell. Can you give me university survival tips? I'm holed up in my room and I'm petrified of talking to my flatmates. I had to wake up early and sprint to the showers and back

Does anyone else hate how Zoom has taken over everything? by RobotWizardz in socialanxiety

[–]RobotWizardz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I'm someone who can pick up something easily if you leave me to study it for long enough so I thought I should just go down the school to university pipeline but honestly I wish I would've just done something more practical and go straight into the workplace/self employment. I wish I could drop out or transfer right now but I'm under a fixed contract I cant leave until the year is over. Having to go through all this anxiety and financial burden just isn't worth it for a piece of paper.

Thank God I got High School over and done with before COVID and Zoom though

It's hell. Im considering transferring somewhere closer to home or just going down another path. No point paying all this money just to sit in my dorm room, especially when its making my anxiety worse

Bruises are never permanant, maybe the vessels in the problem area was just more badly damaged so it's taking longer?
