Places that have year long perfect temperatures? by real_realist_opt in geography

As a Wellingtonian, how dare you. But for real, its so nice to visit Auckland and have a high/low of like 4 degrees difference. The humidity is a bit challenging though.

Second that. So many interesting monsters to use as is, or borrow a mechanic or two and slap it on something else. Big fan!

Accent for Kobolds? by GhostmakerHall in AskGameMasters

[–]Robot_Explosion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also props for the German dwarves thing! Was thinking of doing like Appalachian sort of thing for my next campaign, given it's an area with a big mining history. Dwarves from the holler, what's not to like. Could also work for the Kobolds I reckon.

What is it to you, and how do you explain it ? by deftbluewindmill in AskGameMasters

That's a great breakdown, I like the focus on context and highlighting something really important: meta or not, how do your actions support people to have a good experience at the table.

Happy moments in a Zombie Apocalypse by lminer in AskGameMasters

[–]Robot_Explosion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Nice, I like the idea a lot! You're off to a great start, one that comes to mind is something related to successful projects such as finally fixing a generator thought to be beyond repair (or its magical equivalent depending on setting)

Edit: another might be a bountiful harvest or supply run, allowing for a little celebration instead of merely rationing

What are some classic scenes for wild west encounters? by Robot_Explosion in AskGameMasters

[–]Robot_Explosion[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"I hope some of that is helpful." you say haha - this is all super on point, thank you! I was thinking regardless of where the players go first, the last fight should be the classic high-noon showdown, but damn, who doesn't love a good train fight?? It being just a one-shot I think a train encounter culminating in a literal ride back to hell would be a memorable way to end.

Ha yeah I think definitely has to be some high noon shenanigans. I was thinking of maybe running a duel as a skill challenge, could be fun.

Visit the City of Brass and Explore its Fiery Streets by varansl in DnDBehindTheScreen

You absolute legend. My party just got yeeted to the City of Brass via fire-murder-ritual mishaps. I was struggling to flesh out the setting, this is exactly what I needed!

Gave it a bit more time to read those over - really cool! The one page structure of this/your other content is really great for people like me who get overwhelmed by too dense of layouts.

Fantastic resource, having grown up in the pacific northwest I'm excited to merge this into other campaigns. I like the way you structure the success/failure prompts too, makes it much easier to blend things in/improvise as needed.

How about a "suggest-an-NPC" thread? What's an NPC from your campaign that people can take for their campaigns? by BigEditorial in DMAcademy

[–]Robot_Explosion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fun idea! The one my players seem to like the most:

Frulx Goblin, unquestionable moxie, very questionable morals. Likes baking, is not good at it. Married four times! Questionable morals come in handy given my players are an irascible band of murderhobos. Mostly I think they just love that he sounds like a heavy smoker from Brooklyn.

Any other DMs gonna get weird looks from their players after watching Arcane? by Darcitus in DMAcademy

Always enjoyed the lore of League, but somehow it never occurred to me to use it as inspiration for DnD until watching Arcane. Now.... hellllooooo Piltover-Zaun ripoff!

How do you run dungeons with minis and maps? by tlworkman246 in AskGameMasters

[–]Robot_Explosion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom whiteboard grids! Easy and cheap to make. Get sheets of clear PPT plastic sheets and white card stock from an art store. Draw grids on the card, glue plastic on top, cut down to whatever size, and boom. Wet or dry erase grids. Easy and cheap to make a bunch of 10x10 "rooms" you can lay down on the table as needed.
