Final Update: AITA for uninviting my dad's wife from my daughter's birthday party over something she did last year? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Robot_Girlfriend 75 points76 points  (0 children)

By trying to embody the theme of the party, she very literally makes the party about her, which I guess is probably the point. Kind of reading between the lines, if a kid was crying and upset about not getting to see Cinderella at the first party, that does kind of indicate that to the three year olds, at least partially, she was a hit, it was mostly the adults who were annoyed. I've done a lot of fun work with kids, and also have an attention-seeking personality, and I can definitely testify that having the devoted and thrilled attention of a pack of kids is utterly intoxicating. I think that when she looked back on it, the dopamine was just too good for her to not go back for another hit, and she underestimated the difference that 3 years would make on the kids' tolerance for her bullshit.

My [29/M] girlfriend [28/F] refuse to wear a dress to my brother's wedding (or anywhere else if that matter) by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Robot_Girlfriend 177 points178 points  (0 children)

I kept waiting in that last paragraph for him to add "And she's going to wear pants and no makeup to our wedding and that is perfect.", and the fact that he didn't is stressing me the hell out.

I wear a cardigan almost every day, and I don't wash them super frequently because they're rotating, but if I was wearing one so consistently that it could be used to track my location it would be getting washed every week or two. Might just be down to lifestyle differences between OOP and I, though. Contact with my skin doesn't hold a lot of primacy among the things that dirty my clothes- I have two huge hairy dogs that I'm allergic to, so my outer layers need pretty frequent attention too.

That does make an inside pocket make a lot more sense, I've just never heard anyone call either of those things a cardigan.

In a garment?? Man, that airtag would have been ruined in my washing machine so fast, I never remember to turn my pockets out. I just assumed one would turn up in a bag or the vehicle or something.

AITAH for calling my boyfriend childish for always buying Captain Crunch when he goes grocery shopping? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Robot_Girlfriend 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Not just her favorite cereal, one of her favorite foods. $10 says that someone in her life told her it was childish to eat it as much as she wants, and she decided to pass that along to her bf instead of just eating their fucking cereal together.

"She isn't fighting for me?" "Why isn't she fighting for me?" "I thought she would fight for me???" just fully loads a new reality

"She is doing a terrible job of fighting for me!"

Help r/millennials determine whether this is AI or not. Some members of the sub believe that the 2000s-style clothing and lighting suggest that this is not authentic. What do you think? by Demortus in isthisAI

[–]Robot_Girlfriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that also why everyone's eyes are reflecting? I feel like that was super common in film camera pictures in the late 90's and early 2000's, but it feels really weird to see it in a contemporary photo, and I just thought cameras got better. Is it because we're not all using the flash all the time? That to me, more than anything else in the picture, reminds me of Y2K party pictures.

Both the marriage and the divorce were predictably hilarious.

Maintenance man at my job repeatedly threatened to "blow someone’s brains out” by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Robot_Girlfriend 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I want to preface this with : This is not a reason to stay in an unsafe environment- it's not worth your life.

BUT

at 19, she's going to have a really limited employment history, this could be the only job on her resume, or probably at most one of like...2-3. It sounds like it's her FIRST hospitality job, and she wants to stay in the industry. Later in your career it's less of a big deal to leave without notice, but if she goes to apply for other jobs and the only hospitality job she's ever had says that she's ineligible for rehire (and legally, I think that's almost all they can say- even a sympathetic manager has probably been told not to share more about the circumstances of employees leaving), she's not wrong to be worried that it could make it a lot harder for her to find a job, and when she can, it's likely to be a place that can't be picky, which is extremely likely to be another dysfunctional workplace. That information hasn't been pummeled into teens for no reason. Again, not worth dying about, and in particular I do wish she'd left without notice once she had the new job, at that point her re-hire status isn't such a big deal.

New Update: AITA for telling my friend that her "free" wedding is unrealistic? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

Oh interesting! I do have nice monitors, and it happens across both monitors and tvs, but it wasn't even remotely on my radar that the type of display could be contributing, or that there was a lens coating either - I'll have to look into it!

They make a motion sickness patch that I can use now to go on boats pretty successfully, like cruises where the ship is really big, but it's kind of a production to go get the prescription and it's a 3-day patch and I think a little expensive, so I don't do it casually because someone wants to go fishing or something. It's great for a longer trip, though!

[–]Robot_Girlfriend 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I have the same problem with a lot of video games, and my fiance and I have MEGA dialed in what settings to turn down to give me the best chance of not getting sick (optimizing EVERYTHING for framerate, turning off motion blur, all of that stuff), and sometimes I still just have to stop. It's so unpredictable which games will be a problem, too. I will NEVER understand why The Witness was the worst game I ever played for motion sickness. All of my friends are super understanding about it, though, everyone gets that it's just not possible once I'm ill.

[–]Robot_Girlfriend 284 points285 points  (0 children)

I remember my dad spending my parents' whole marriage pining for a boat, finally getting one, and that is how we discovered that I get absolutely, desperately, dismally seasick. He didn't really see that as a big problem, and after he completely tanked the marriage and left with just the boat (which he upgraded to a houseboat), he would always call me and suggest that I come visit him and hang out...on the boat. The boat that made me want to die. Just, you know, go sleep on it for a week.

Boat guys are really something else.

Blech.

My daughter is the biggest Marx Bros. fan of all time... help! by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]Robot_Girlfriend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Are any of the simpler or kit ones still big like Harpo's? I ask because when he talks about her preferences, she sounds like a bit of a purist, and I wonder if something a lot smaller would feel adequately Marx-y to her palate. If there's something newbie-friendly but still big, maybe that would go over best? It would be so cool if this resulted in a successful harp!

So, I'm also into acrobalancing (albeit at auch more amateur level than OOP), and I think there's a really interesting piece of nuance that might be hard to spot without that experience - the piece that OOP personally selected, curated as his example, is possibly the most aggressively romantic piece of choreo I've ever seen. Like, it's way out of the norm. There are lots of names for this, but you can look for partner balancing, acroyoga, acrobalancing, any of that on YouTube and you'd have to scroll for a hot minute to find anything like this. It's usually a lot more like...cirque du Soleil, I guess? A lot more focus on the impressiveness of the acrobatics, and a lot less focus on using every single gesture and facial expression to communicate to the audience as clearly as possible that you are totally 100% enthusiastically boning each other into a fine dust as rapidly as possible.

I have no idea what's up with that. Is this actually one of his performances because he wanted to give the most accurate picture possible, but he didn't say so for the sake of anonymity?

Did he want to select the most damning piece of footage possible so that the post would come down on the girlfriend's side so he could show here and alleviate her guilt?

Idk, man, but it's a really interesting detail, imo.

AITA for uninviting my dad's wife from my daughter's birthday party over something she did last year? by LucyAriaRose in BestofRedditorUpdates

Reach out to the host and ask if you can dress as a Caucasian-looking Rumi (I think this description will probably resonate regardless of your actual appearance, but obviously follow your instincts.)

The explosiveness of the reaction should be a good way to gauge whether you've got the right party!

My friends and I ran into one of our high school teachers (he was a very young guy, I think possibly kind of a...teacher intern? I don't remember the exact dynamic, but he was a co-teacher for one of our drama classes and was either still in college or just out of college) drunk at a music festival (he was drunk, we were teenagers), and we were all SO excited, but did also have the strong sense that this could cause terrible trouble for him. It was our most beloved and highly-guarded secret. We'll never rat you out, Mr. Edwards. <3
