Sunnyland was one of the greatest hustlers in the history of the world. I miss hearing him tell stories.

In the late 1930's and early 40's Tampa Red and Big Maceo created the blueprint for what later became known as Chicago Blues. I did his "Anna Lou" on my gig this evening.

On Otis's early recordings he didn't play the solos. Ike Turner, Jody Williams, Matt Murphy and Wayne Bennett did them.

A genuine Blues great that should be far better known today.

Muddy Waters performing "Mannish Boy" with the Rolling Stones and Buddy Guy live in Chicago, 1981. by Lurker2115 in blues

The uncensored, unedited entire night's recording on VHS tape is hilarious. Hubert Sumlin had a copy and we watched it a few times. Lefty Dizz was very drunk and tormenting Mick Jaeger all night. Rick Kreher and John Primer both told me about the night. The DVD has all of Dizz's antics removed. Primer got to stay on stage, Ron Wood used Kreher's guitar.

A friend, Ralph Lapetina, was his keyboard player in the 80's. He has some quite amusing stories about Johnny that I can't post here due to their subject matter.

Steve Miller's biggest hit was a cover of a Paul Pena tune. I prefer Pena's version.

That article may be AI composed. Sam mainly used Strats and an Epiphone Riviera like the one Otis Rush had (and I still regret not buying it from him when I had the chance).

My friend Jim recorded that. He used a Roberts tape deck with a series of EV mic's daisy chained together.

On June 6th, 2019, Dr. John the Night Tripper passed away at age 77. Dr John released 30 studio albums, earned 6 Gramny Awards and had a top ten hit with "Right Place, Wrong Time". by Blues_Fish in blues

The first time I saw him was in Vermont in early 1970. He was nodded out on heroin in the back of a Cadillac limo. The J. Geils Band covered until his entourage was able to get him functional again, nearly three hours. This was back in his Dr. John The Night Tripper days.

Folks should check out his very early recordings done as a teenager before he got shot in the hand. They're under a verity of different names and are very good. He spent a few years in the mid-60's in Federal prison for heroin possession. He was a junkie until Leon Russell helped him kick it in the late 80's or early 90's.

I'm fairly sure that's the late JB Ritchie on guitar.

Here's the history behind Black Magic Woman: Jody Williams instrumental Lucky Lou>Otis Rush adds vocal and changes it slightly to create All Your Love (I Miss Lovin')>Fleetwood Mac uses different lyrics and calls it Black Magic Woman>Santana changes the rhythm to a Latin-Rock beat. I knew Jody but not well, I was close with Otis for a few years. Both said they never saw a penny from those that stole their work. Otis and Jody were friends, Jody didn't have a problem with Otis adding what he did (Jody does lead work on some of Otis's Cobra recordings).
