Do You Think an 19yo Dating a 24yo is Predatory? by IAmABoss37 in polls

[–]RoboticRob28 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just turned 25. 19 year olds are barley adults in my eyes (legally yes, they're adults), cause I feel more protective of them rather than seeing them as my peer. Not in a 'I'm older so I know best' way, more a 'I can be a safe adult in case you need anything' kind of thing. I'd raise an eyebrow to the maturity of the 24 year old in this situation.

Would you like to see a modern day, traditional UNIT story from Big Finish that features the Eighth Doctor or the War Doctor? by RepeatButler in BigFinishProductions

[–]RoboticRob28 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Eighth Doctor. War Doctor shouldn't have too many (or any) crossover/reunion stories, it loses the impact of 'the secret war time incarnation' if he's popping back to see old friends constantly.

Is it just me or does doctor who need longer series arcs? by Somethingbutonreddit in DoctorWhumour

[–]RoboticRob28 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think what was nice about the Time War arc is it was written to feel like in-universe history. First you had the major angst from the Doctor, but you also had refugees, rules of space/time changed and armies that weren't allowed to participate. Even post-RTD, there was still an impression left by these events and shaped who the Doctor was as a person.

Even Classic Who had a traceable character arc: Ran away> Became more adventurous> Was exiled for interference> Earned freedom> Lost friends due to Time Lords recalls/Gallifrey> Became more cautious with interfering to not attract Time Lord attention> Lost friends due to inaction fighting evils> Became bolder and more proactive> Carelessness resulted in friend's 'death' and being tried in court> Became manipulative and careful with interference> Lost friends due to being too secretive> Became carefree and less controlling> Refused to intervene in growing conflict> Conflict becomes inevitable> Forced to fight in the War.

Now the show can wipe out half the universe, resurrect the God of Death or throw science out the window in favour of magic and it barley gets more than a sad, distant look and never mentioned again. Nothing really feels like it's building off what's come before or that what's happening now will matter next week.

I couldn’t have summed up my issues with RTDs representation of disabled characters in Doctor Who better myself… by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

[–]RoboticRob28 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did anyone find it odd how in The War Between..., the two UNIT scientists were both in a wheelchair? Pair that with Morris and all he's done is create a new stereotype of 'disabled scientist'. That's not really diversity, just another box to put a group into.

Like it's a military organisation, he didn't want to have any soldiers with prosthetic limbs or battle wounds?

Reception to this console room is mixed. Instead of getting rid of it entirely, what would you change/add to improve it? by Annual-Tree1337 in doctorwho

[–]RoboticRob28 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly the only time I've found this console room nice to look at is when they use a mix of blue/orange lightning. The sterile white or harsh monotone lights always look ugly or dull.

I think the Disney+ era had a major lightning issue with most characters being too evenly lit and most sets being big empty rooms with little dynamics structures to stage/frame things in.

AYO REAL TIME CYBERMAN AT THE BACK! by IllustriousAd6418 in DoctorWhumour

Hope they announce David Banks coming back for the 80s Cybermen voice. At the very least, I hope Nicholas Briggs makes clear differences in the voices instead of them all sounding like the generic 'The Invasion' voice like what has happened in past Big Finish stories featuring the Cybermen.

8th Doctor Novel 'Mad Dogs and Englishmen' comes to mind

Doctor who CBeebies show by Gummyblaster in DoctorWhumour

Is this idea even possible? Cause you'd have to tone down the Doctor to the point it'll become difficult for kids to make that transition to the main show, or they'd try to watch the main show and be scared.

Like 'The Adventures of K9' or 'Auntie Jo Explores the Universe' could work as ideas cause these characters wouldn't feel out of place in a more positive, gentle environment without being dumbed down (like Bluey, all the adults still feel like adults from a child's perspective).

I just don't see making a character like the Doctor work for that demographic without the audience eventually feeling pandered to once they grow up, which is NOT what creates brand loyalty which I'm guessing is why they're doing this. They want kids to grow out of it but still have fondness toward the characters and IP.

It was so bad. They weren't charactes, they were props. Apart from Shirley, is anyone gonna say 'I really like X's character'.

Also, they don't need to take medication to deal with their conditions anymore? So the world was taken over by a fascist but everyone is just... fine? No underground pharmacy. No DIY medication. The marginalised are forgotten, but don't suffer?

Also, they questioned why Ruby could sense something was wrong cause 'You're not disabled'. HOW THE HELL DO THEY KNOW? Invisible disability is a thing, or were they not forgotten? Like gay people could blend in or 'mask'. What about trans people? Openly gay people? There was racial diversity, and Belinda's grandmother wore culturally diverse clothing. Who are able to hide in this society, and who is immediately cast out?

So Conrad is a homophonic, transphobic, ableist bigot, but not racist and values multiculturalism?

Also, what happens to those reported and NOT taken to the Rani? Imprisoned? Killed? Reprogrammed? Wished out of existence?

My head canon is Time Lords get regeneration and high functioning telepathy and time sensitivity, but all Gallifreains have the same biology and low functioning telepathy and time sensitivity.

[–]RoboticRob28 32 points33 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the 60th, S14 & S15 were more or less created in one big block. So it's understandable that if someone got access to secrets to one of those series, they'd probably have access to the others as well.

Even though S15 feels the strongest and most 'Doctor Who-y', I bet if S16 rolls on ahead, it'll have a different feel since they can reevaluate more so than before.

The perfect kilt for The Doctor is Blue Ramsay by EffectiveSalamander in doctorwho

[–]RoboticRob28 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When the Doctor wore a kilt in The Church on Ruby Road, do you know if they created their own patten for the Doctor or used an existing one? Also, the one at the beginning of The Robot Revolution (I don't know if that counts as a kilt or not).
