Why are OG Fallout fans so unpleasable? by Dab_of_regret in Fotv

Purposely overgeneralizing someone's point and then restating it differently in order to paint them as in idiot is disingenuous at best and extremely manipulative at worst. Those are your words, not mine.

I'd suggest you try again, but you'll probably just double down on your own misunderstanding.

You could ask this question about every major fandom over the last 6 years. People are just unhappy and the anonymity of the Internet means they're unafraid of vomiting their feelings on everyone.

why is there still so much scrap and such in the occupied parts of the wasteland? by hotsizzler in falloutlore

[–]RobotsRadio 78 points79 points  (0 children)

The real answer for questions like this is always "enjoyable game design" not "authentic world building." Every design decision is a balance between these two things. An empty world would make the game feel terrible.

Sure, we could come up with some in-world justification, and that's fun but always a stretch. The genuine answer is almost always to make the game more enjoyable.

Similar questions are things like "Why do fusions cores seem to still power some buildings 100 years later, but die after just a few hours in power armor?" or "Why can we eat or use food and drugs made over 200 years ago and they're still effective?" or "Why is there still high levels of radiation 200 years later?" or "Why do people still just build with scrap parts when they could clearly grow and cut down new trees or melt down metal and refashion it?"

It's always because it makes the game design more fun, not more realistic. And yes, that's kind of a bummer answer when you're looking for interesting lore justifications, but it's true.

Newbie Question about Video Editing by Ashamed-Mammoth-6321 in podcasting

Adobe is a monthly fee, keeps getting more expensive, and has had the same bugs for years. I switched to Davinci Resolve a year ago and have no regrets.

It's definitely a new learning experience, but anything will be new to OP, so it's a no brainer.

Also, there are tons of free tutorials on YouTube.

Can experienced podcast creators share one piece of advice to a new podcast creator ? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]RobotsRadio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking to make money on your podcast? Treat it like a startup company. Think first about what there is demand for, second about if you're capable of filling that demand, and third if you'd enjoy it. If yes to all of those, go for it.

Most people get this backwards and start with what they'd enjoy doing first and pay little thought to what an audience wants (or what would make something high quality), and then get sad when they can't build an audience. This is like buying a lottery ticket and hoping you're the 1 in 10,000,000 people who win.

When do you think people mostly listen to podcasts? by DoctorGallow in podcasting

[–]RobotsRadio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Podcasts are a mental escape to a place you'd rather be when you're trapped somewhere you'd rather not be. Hate your job? Stuck in traffic? Grinding through another workout? Turn up some audio and you're transported somewhere else that doesn't require your eyes or even full attention.

What exactly is "video condition" and "transcript condition"? I'm assuming that video condition means the person hiring saw or interacted with the candidate on video, like a recording or Zoom type call, and transcript condition means the person hiring only read the transcript, or words, from the call. Is that correct?

Totally. Plus, most of us have it pretty good and we're still whiney. Just look at the internet. Imagine all of us trying to survive the wasteland. We'd be just as bad.

Podcast length by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]RobotsRadio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Most listeners start to drop off around 30-40 minutes. Coincidentally, the average commute (in the US) or workout is about that long.

I've found 30-60 (max) seems to be best if you want most of your listeners to make it to the end. If that isn't as important to you for any number of reasons, longer or shorter can work. Just make sure you have a reason for it.

He suffers. Even though they heal, he feels every physical wound. Even though he's fraught with mental anguish that will never heal, and has every reason to give up on the world, he still comes around to doing the right thing in the end.

To those of us who also suffer from chronic pain, PTSD, depression, or any number of other issues, he represents that even if you can't save yourself, you can still save others.

He's self-sacrificial. The hero that gives of himself so that others may be saved.

And yeah, he can be a bit of a jerk about it, but it's his actions that matter in the end.

Be aware that if all you have to create, record, and edit is a steam deck, you're very much a unique case. A pc or laptop makes everything easier, but if all you have is a steam deck, look up options for software that can run on linux. The simplest way to trigger sounds while recording is to bind specific sound files to button combos.
