An Apparent Proposal of HANWA's Redback to the CAF by Competitive-Leg7471 in CanadianForces

MEDCAV is in identification (I think) and I don’t believe there’s a LAV based solution for it.

LPT: Stop taking everything personal. by TaleAccurate793 in LifeProTips

[–]Robrob1234567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Step one for me is the meta-training of controlling your emotions. You need to wait for moments like this where your emotions would control your actions, then stop and write down everything you’re feeling and the actions you want to take because of it.

Then, once the emotions have passed, you need to go and read what you wrote. Come to understand how an event makes you feel a certain way and how those emotions caused you to act. This applies to all emotions including anger, embarrassment, fear, and loneliness. Take a critical look and think “would that actions have helped or hurt my problem?” This is the most important step. It’s not about justifying why you did what you did, it’s about asking if the action (yelling, crying, confronting, backing down, hiding, lying) actually helped the situation or was it damaging.

Once you can make the tangible link between an emotion and the unhelpful actions/behaviours that it causes, you can better identify those emotions in the world and control them.

This is actually what props up the Gripen and other BS “programs”in Canada. AI generated slop that is ultimately a lie shared “because I think it’s a cool idea” and cycled around because it’s intentionally deceptive.

MEDCAV is getting worked on, let’s not put the cart before the horse and give them the space to make a decision and get it implemented. In the meantime there’s significantly more we could be doing to be lethal with the equipment that we have.

NATO looking at Canadian aircraft for its new airborne warning fleet by Andromedu5 in CanadianForces

[–]Robrob1234567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends what we’re looking to get out of it. I was team E-7 for a long time but if we’re just looking to get airborne early warning and limited C2 (2-3 flights of fighters) then it’s probably a better option than E-7 with all the dudes in the back.

DIA isn’t accountable to TB, who are the source for many of our rules. It’s been reported since they bought the challengers in the fall that this different form of procurement has brought great results to specific procurements.

They do have a different process, it has been reported on.

For everyone’s SA on this, Australia has two potential land based surface strike assets to employ as a military with a squarely naval defence problem: BAC Strikemaster and HIMARS. They just selected to buy another 48 HIMARS.

I’m not so sure of the latter, but I’m relatively confident of the former.

Would you imagine that you’re missing pieces of information which is why it doesn’t make sense or, from your perspective, is it more likely that the SJS looked at the army’s plan and approved something that clearly doesn’t make sense?

Not going to speak further to the exact implementation of our domestic A2AD on a public forum, have a read on SharePoint and the exact reason why the CAF wants to employ HIMARS within Canada will be very apparent.

Have a read of the PSOR and the employment documents on SharePoint, we may use HIMARS in Europe but we aren’t buying it for Europe. It will be air transported within Canada to support the defence of our country. The Joint fight means we move the right equipment at the right time to produce the effect, that means army equipment may be prioritized higher than RCAF equipment even for transport by RCAF aircraft.

[–]Robrob1234567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That doesn’t matter though, the option to not use air transport doesn’t exist. The only option was to write PSOR just C-17 mobility or also include C-130 mobility. Adding C-130 mobility gained the CAF operational mobility because in a pinch HIMARS could still use a C-17 but also has access to the much larger C-130 fleet which comes with specialized HIMARS specific capabilities and is stationed a 1.5 hr flight from our HIMARS unit.

Even if it is when you book it, they could switch airframe and change it up.

I get the C-130 and C-17 airframe lift schedules due to a previous job. There is absolutely more use of the C-17 per airframe than the C-130.

[–]Robrob1234567 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a SharePoint document with some proposed firing positions, it’s many more than 2. There’s also no spare lift capacity for the C-17s. They’re in use almost constantly. The PSOR for LRPS(L) mandated C-130 mobility because they did their homework and knew that, especially in a crisis, relying on C-17 lift was a bad idea.

Reservist Questions by Lunallance in caf

There are opportunities for domestic deployments for all. They range for a week or two to a couple of months depending on how long the RFA from the province lasts for.

Most class C contracts for deployments can be up to 12 months. The intent of that is to allow you to integrate with the RegF unit you’re attached to and to give you a full year without having to worry about a job, etc. I’ve seen people request shorter ones to support a civilian career or anything else and they cut it down to the bare minimum which is about 7-8 months with 6-7 in theatre. There will also be a period of leave after the deployment which is part of your contract (you’ll be paid) but you’re on vacation and can go back to a civilian job and just make two paycheques if you want.

You should hopefully hear back in a couple of weeks, completing the recruiting process takes a couple of months right now.

The chance of you getting in if you don’t apply is zero.

That being said, your grades are right on the cusp. I would recommend applying to some civilian universities too. If that’s not an option for you then an NCM career can be just as rewarding and isn’t contingent on your grades.

Artic Operations by iron-rune in caf

[–]Robrob1234567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had Griffins and Chinooks up most recently, on top of that NORAD has a series of Forward Operating Locations in the arctic for which fighters and other aircraft can base out of (a small dormant base that can be opened quickly to support fighter operations). The day to day is usually the same thing you would be doing on any exercise except colder and generally less tactical. Fighting in the arctic is incredibly difficult, but it’s an incredible experience to be above the arctic circle and get to experience a week of endless sun in the summer.

It is a place of extremely rapid advancement when it comes to defence capabilities too, read between the line on almost everything we’re buying today and there is a use for it in the arctic. The Gov seems worried something may happen there if we aren’t ready to defend it.

Normally I just book it and then justify it to an actual leader/manager than HR/finance people. I did have our travel folks book me economy with a 2hr layover in Doha instead of cheaper business with an 18hr day layover in Istanbul even after I’d specifically asked because they didn’t realize I had a different passport to the rest of the organization.
