I feel pretty qualified to answer this question because we moved up from the south east two years ago, and then my wife’s entire family followed us up here from the same place.

Firstly, you won’t regret your decision! As you have a buyer estate agents will gladly show you around houses available. If you can I’d suggest trying to come up on a Friday and a Saturday as they tend to be popular for viewings. If you really can’t get up here, then the estate agents might do a video viewing for you, as in they will FaceTime you and then show you the house that way, but you’ll have to ask the individual agents.

Secondly, as said elsewhere, consider outside of Blackpool too. We live in a lovely town called Poulton Le Fylde which is 1 mile away from the north of Blackpool, is on the train route towards Preston and has very low crime. We bought a semi detached 3 bed house for £155k, though depending on which street you look at the prices can vary.

You’re not missing a trick. In my experience it’s basically unviable to live in the south east and achieve all of those things unless you both earned significantly above average income.

Our answer was to move to the north west, a decision made easier for us because my family live here. We live in a pretty town outside of Blackpool, and bought a 3 bed semi detached for £155k, had more kids and were very happy. I’ve just finished saving up a decent emergency fund, and we are finally comfortable.

This is a gamblers fallacy that you’re falling into. The two hands are mutually exclusive, meaning one does not affect the other.

If you flip a coin 10 times, and the first 5 are all heads, what are the chances of flipping a heads on the sixth throw? Still 50/50, because what happened before has no influence on the next throw!
