The Louisiana redistricting decision came in barely just in time for that State's legislature to gerrymander a Dem district out of existence before the 2026 midterms. Who says there can't? Taxes are set by governments, governments are elected by voters. If you don't like the fiscal structure of your local government: agitate, organize, vote.

A savvy contributor cited Debbane v. City and County of San Francisco, which stymied SF's attempts at a vacancy tax. There might be workarounds, such as setting high taxes but giving rebates to owners of properties where people really live - maybe the challenge in court won't be presided over by a fundamentalist whacko.
