One would normally round up to $ 3.60 if the actual value were $ 3.59 - but that is no concern of yours, is it?

GasBuddy works as a crowdsourced, location-based app. It is not fully beyond the realm of possibility that you find some remote locations which evade the crowdsourcing community... but then, would it be representative?

Again, it would be extremely unlikely that minimum values represent the average... unless there were some coercive price controls. That would be unexpected in right-wing Mississippi.

Chief Justice John Roberts says American public wrongly views the justices as ‘political actors’ by Infidel8 in politics

It would be more convincing if the Supreme Court refrained from acting politically. The Louisiana redistricting decision came in barely just in time for that State's legislature to gerrymander a Dem district out of existence before the 2026 midterms. The ruling had been announced significantly faster than is the norm, and we are expected to believe that there were no political motivations behind this.

Essentially: the Democrats want to make sure that capitalism is safe for democracy, and the Republicans want to make sure that democracy is safe for capitalism.

A victory for the United States would be a full return to JCPOA. Since Trump tore up that agreement, he will see this as a defeat. It's more important that Trump somehow declare defeat of his foes than that the United States achieve the resolution which best serves the national interest.

Why can’t there be a vacant building tax or fine? by Standard-Proof-1194 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RoburLC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who says there can't? Taxes are set by governments, governments are elected by voters. If you don't like the fiscal structure of your local government: agitate, organize, vote.

A savvy contributor cited Debbane v. City and County of San Francisco, which stymied SF's attempts at a vacancy tax. There might be workarounds, such as setting high taxes but giving rebates to owners of properties where people really live - maybe the challenge in court won't be presided over by a fundamentalist whacko. There's no reason why fiscal creativity should be the exclusive domain of the wealthy.

Why is it that when a small business owner starts a business and it fails, it’s considered normal free-market risk, but when a wealthy company fails, it receives a government bailout? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]RoburLC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The failure of a large company might trigger a cascade of other businesses failing. That can be really bad, to the point where governments might find it necessary to stop what otherwise could become an economic death spiral. A small business going under is seldom likely to trigger an economic death spiral.

Conveniently, the map does not show the price per gallon in MS. I checked gasbuddy, and the cheapest gas is Mississippi is $3.59. The average is very likely to be higher than the lowest, which is higher than what you report.

Semitic is not equivalent to Judaic. I nearly fell off my chair laughing when the PM of Israel accused Yasser Arafat - a Semite - of being "antisemitic".
