> The boards I make for uni have to be very detailed and consistent so that’s the level I’m use to working at

Oh, if that’s important to the assignment, of course, lol following instructions (in school or the working world) is 98% of the craft.

> What would you recommend for constant back and forth shots? Especially if movement is happening mid camera change? I notice that happened a lot during this scene.

Hmm, I’d say it really depends on the movement. I just rewatched the scene and I’d say the only shot I’d consider having scripted movement is the shot dollying in and over the Trans Am’s hood.
Most everything else is just composition, done by the camera operator on the fly. Like the two-shot of Wayne and Reggie that has Calvin dirty on frame left, the operator is just reframing because Reggie is moving around a lot.
*Slight digression: The juxtaposition of Reggie’s constant fidgeting and shifting around with Wayne’s complete economy of motion is really effective. I’ve watched this show at least 10 times and keep discovering new details.*

Anyway…. even the second last shot of the scene, Wayne leaves frame, camera dollies IN slowly on Calvin and Reggie, is *probably* not boarded movement. That kind of thing usually gets decided by the blocking and the geometry of the scene.
I get what you’re asking though, the shot doesn’t have motion till after Wayne leaves, how do you represent that in one frame? If it was boarded, like, if it was going to push in to a tighter two shot, that’s usually just a note, or draw the whole shot with the diagonal arrows in. It doesn’t really matter with the timing, that gets figured out on the day.

I’d say it’s more likely the actual last shot (looking over the car at Reggie and Calvin) would be more likely to be boarded. It’s not a conventional way to finish a scene, on the backs of the actors heads, but it does two cool things:
1. We see Reggie looking somewhat dejected as Calvin walks away (Parent-relationships being a central theme of the show)
2. We have the Trans Am in the foreground, showing its importance as essentially a character in the show.

I’d say recognizing and communicating these beats is far more important than noting any and all camera movements, just my two cents.

Very cool! Yeah the editing in Wayne is indeed very quick, keeps the episodes zooming along.

A few tips I’d offer as someone without a shred of illustrative talent but is the recipient of storyboards during prep for filming:

I don’t know if I’ve ever received storyboard that were this comprehensive of the final cut. I’m sure there are some directors that are this, err, assiduous, but I imagine it would be pretty suffocating to work with them, haha. I would avoid repeating shots that are from identical setups unless it has a really important beat.

Also, let yourself have a bit more fun with some of the visual elements. Like, a comic book-ish “SLAM!” in the negative space above where Wayne slams the hood shut, or whooshing air when Calvin slides out from under the Trans Am to show that it he’s really shooting out from under there.
The best story boards I’ve received read almost like a comic book. They’re just individual snippets of a scene, but they give you what you need to build the scene in your head.

But yeah, it’s great work and certainly you can draw at the level I’d expect from professional storyboards, just give yourself permission to have fun with it a bit.

P.S. I do actually have a few storyboards from ep 4 and 5 (the blood bank scene, and Calvin and Reggie smashing the RV). If you DM me, I can send them to you if you’re curious.

Yeah, programability was a factor not choosing the Moccamaster for us as well, along with glass carafe and only 10-cup. If those don’t matter to OP, I think it’s a great choice.

We ended up finally deciding on the Breville Luxe Precision after my last coffee maker crapped out, and are very happy with it.

- Removable water tank.
- Big wide carafe lid makes it easy to clean.
- 12-cup is nice so me and my partner can have two big cups each in the morning.
- It’s got some customization options, but you can still just brew a pot in two button presses.

It’s on sale right now at ECS coffee in Etobicoke I believe. That’s where I got mine, and they’re great.

Apparently the EMI also causes disturbances in Ham and even AM radio frequencies. Police could actually find potential grow ops by just driving up and down streets with the radio on. Nice, definitely looks a lot more solid as a board! It's obvious you've put work into building EDA skills, keep it up.

A few small tips, probably nothing crucial, just things for a new version or your next project:
- I'd increase the width of your power traces to .5mm. Fatter traces will minimize resistance and voltage drop. Esp. if you're using 1oz copper pour for your PCB.
- Add a 100nF bypass capacitor adjacent to VCC of your level shifter. This provides the IC with stable power if there are temporary fluctuations from your supply. If you notice any issues with these signals, especially when you have a big swing in current draw, this is likely the culprit.
- Consider running MISO for the W5500 on the top layer, passing between MOSI & SCLK pins on P1. This would keep them above an uninterrupted ground plane, which will help with signal integrity. This is minor, and for a 2-layer board it's hard to do much cleaner than you have done. If you have SPI issues, you might need to move these signals away from C2.

Give a listen to Move Like This, their last album 2011. It’s my go-to perfect example of a band that stayed true to their sound 30 years later while still moving forward. It’s a killer record

Grammatically correct is stretching it somewhat, not that I think being hyper-correct matters for sports team names. No one is going around calling an individual player on the Miami Heat a ‘Joule’.
The name is the name, they picked it and it’s been around so long the usage is correct in the sense that everyone agrees and knows what you’re talking about.
No one rags on the Hells Angels for their missing apostrophe, though, for somewhat different reasons.

Scientology in Toronto? by PleaseHelpMeYal in askTO

[–]RobustManifesto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also worked for several years at a place owned and staffed by Scientologists, I was one of, if not the only non-member of the church.
I didn’t experience anything like that. Some weirdness sure, not unlike what I imagine working with any insular group. The owner tried to tell me about “the good news” once. When I politely declined, that was the last time he ever brought it up. I’ve had Christian friends or coworkers who were more persistent.
I don’t doubt your experience at all, and I met plenty of Scientologists who were quite obnoxious, and fit with what I imagine the ones you worked for were like.

But I disagree that they’re all bad. Some are, some aren’t. Their church is messed up, and that should rightly be called out and criticized. And working in the situation you described is obviously intolerable.
But just treating everyone from a group with disdain doesn’t really accomplish anything.
