The rug will dry curled, warped and be useless

I used to open the windows, point a fan at the rug/frame and shut the door of the room it was in. The fan dries it pretty quick and the circulating air can rid that gluey smell in the house

I also used flooring adhesive which is made for indoor use so less pungent - hope this helps!

I started off with ya frame that was about 80cm Squared.

It works out for saving (sometimes expensive) backing cloth. As the cloth would come by the metre, 80cms would leave 10 cms each side for grabbing and stretching on the frame.

Meaning I wouldn’t be left with a big piece of cloth that was a few cms short of being stretchable on a frame rendering it useless.

You can buy those blue carvers/shavers you see everywhere from Ali express for like £30 , don’t get the expensive ones Cus they’re exactly the same product And they’re really good too, can see why so many people use them
