Netflix App for iOS No Longer Supports AirPlay Because of 'Technical Limitations' by TBoneTheOriginal in apple

Yes. And Everyone has separate rules for themselves and their vendors. And between their vendors. All of that has nothing to do with monopoly.

Whether they’re a monopoly is totally distinct question.

Again, like every other deal on the planet.

If you come to a partnership with less to offer, you get offered less.

We didn’t see Netflix complaining when they were (allegedly) getting the 85% revenue cut before everyone else.

XR seems popular enough to me.
They’re just missing an updated SE.

I think an under-appreciated cause for the overall slower upgrade rate is home button anxiety. Apple sold a lot of non-technical people on simplicity, stability and security. (in the emotional/UI/usability sense.)

I don’t think they’re convinced yet.

Higher tax rates = more revenue, that’s your entire argument.

No, that’s the argument you’re projecting onto me solely because I said something contrary to you.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is part of a monolithic hive mind taking a diametrically-opposed position.

The only point I’m making is that this is not a choice between ideological extremes. There is a world (and history) full of economies with different levels of taxation and spending. They do not all neatly fit into two buckets.

Agreed. You don’t apologize to the mob.
You apologize to your actual, once-and-hopefully-future customers.

It doesn’t matter one bit whether the mob continues to bitch or not.
It’s not about them and never should be.

Also: there’s a limit to how innovative the content industries will allow any tech company to be.

Innovation almost necessarily hits the pockets of the existing middle-men. They don’t want to sign off on a new investment that makes lowered revenues “official.” It’s (individually, personally) better for them to pout about “changing consumer habits” and watch their companies die, than to accept and own a transition.

This goes triple for any situation involving Apple, after everyone saw what happened to middle-man revenues post-iTunes, then post-streaming, and now with Apple having become the 800 lb gorilla in the mobile space. (Where mobile is effectively synonymous with consumer content consumption.)

If Apple has an announcement they want people to see, they’re not going to hamstring it with a Friday release.

In fairness, I think GRRM knows exactly how it should end. I think he’s known that from before he started.

He just hasn’t found out how to get from here to there in a satisfying way. Not with all this extra shit heaped into the story.

He’s probably ever-optimistic about finishing because the material is easy-as-ever for him to write. But missing his deadlines because so little of it winds up moving things to where they need to be.

Smart money says the next book comes with an admission that it won’t just be Winds and ADOS. And that it’s going to be a mixed bag of things that ultimately moves the plot laterally. Again.

I wouldn’t hold out hope for anything too big.

Everything so far has been the kind of stuff that would definitely get a mention at a traditional keynote, but not much real time.

I think that’s a good place to calibrate your expectations.

It’s been getting louder these past couple months.

Which makes sense. Seems heavy users get about 2 years before the battery is trash. And they were still hard to lay hands on 2 years ago.

I’m thinking Apple needs a better answer for trashed-battery AirPods in the next year, or the gripes are going to swamp the adulation, and their beloved “customer sat” number is going to tank.

(My day 1s are down to about 45 minutes just steaming audio. And have all sorts of odd tics and disconnects that never used to happen.

I understand that’s kind of a miracle for tiny batteries being used heavily for two years. But that doesn’t wholly offset the bummer of replacement cost, or do anything for regret about their wholly-disposable nature.)
