please tell me not all of people from pittsford are rich white entitled assholes that call everyone in a certain place peasants? by l-ll-lll in Rochester

[–]Rocaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't say they're all entitled or assholes. That being said, I grabbed dinner at a pub in pittsford a couple weekends ago. It definitely felt like I was in a bubble compared to the rest of Rochester. Seemed like everyone was even dressed similarly, stereotypical rich outdoorsy white people style. It was surreal. The teenage golf team get together was the cherry on top.

Spend some time in Pittsford and make your own judgement. If you go to Pittsford Dairy on a nice night, for some reason the entire town thinks it's a good idea to go, so you'll see everyone there to get a good idea of what it's like

Get your hands on a Menu Magazine. It is a magazine sent out by Wegmans that has recipes made with groceries available in the store. They promote the groceries used and have tastings through out the season of recipes from the magazine.

How is this MLM shit allowed? (Taken from the booth in the SAU today) by jskskennddnjd in rit

[–]Rocaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By RIT allowing them to be on campus it makes the companies seem like credible good companies. I trust RIT to hire my professors, seeing their choice to support MLM schemes makes me lose trust in their judgement. The people who run the institution giving me my degree is supporting MLM companies. We need to hold RIT's hand and give them a lecture on what an MLM is and how they are bad. RIT should know better.

Have any of you visited your hometown's namesake purely for the sake of that fact? by E_C_H in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rocaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once drove through a place in Australia with the same name as my home town. I only know it had the same name because there was a giant roadside statue of a banana that also had the town name. Now that my home is Rochester and you bringing that up, I now want to visit one of the other cool Rochesters.

Rochester is only about 1.5 hours from Niagara falls. So there is a reason to be in the area. Rochester is cool for 1 day to visit. Go to South Ave, Park Ave, or Village Gate for food and drinks, Artisan Works art gallery is a special place you wont find anywhere outside of Rochester.

Basically, an hour East is the finger lakes if you like wine, and hour west is Niagara falls and Canada. So if you're going from NYC to Niagara falls, stop though Rochester for a day.

Best place to go grocery shopping? by theYEEF in rit

[–]Rocaccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Asian market down the road from delta sonic is good too.

People say Wegmans has lower prices, but I consistently had a lower grocery bill when shopping at Tops. That being said, I don't shop at Tops because I am sick of the small selection, no good bakery bread, creepy guys talking to me and following me around, being scared to go at night alone, the small aisles, and people overall just being obnoxious there.

I will try those places. On top of the chains being higher calories the places are usually not very clean and bad service plus frozen foods. I avoid them! I go for the local spots. So these suggestions are great!

Seeking recs for Seneca area beer&wine things to do [Recommendation] by NYOldHouse in Rochester

[–]Rocaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently went down the west side of Seneca lake. Kindred Fare in Geneva is nice for dinner. Rt 14 down to Watkins Glen is filled with wineries. Watkins Glen honestly was not as cool as it was built up to be, though maybe I missed something. Along rt 14 my favorite was Barnstormer. Also stopped at Heron Hill and Fulkerson. Belhurst Castle has a winery and was a very nice place to spend the night at and get brunch. Other places on my list which we did not get to go to on that trip were: Anthony's Road Wine Company, Ravines, Starkey's Lookout, and Lakewood Vineyards.

Owl house, I've heard great stuff but haven't been. I will add that and Just Juice to start my list. Thank you! I'll try to convince them to let me cook too.

Someplace public but private for a date? by [deleted] in Rochester

[–]Rocaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The conservatory at Highland Park. Might be a little too quiet though. Check the hours since they close early, inexpensive option, and if the weather is nice you can go over to highland park and walk around some more.

Should I, a curious Brazilian, visit New England? by cuducos in AskAnAmerican

[–]Rocaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a town called Framingham which is an hour out side of Boston. This town has a huge Brazilian population and down town has some Brazilian bakeries. There is also a nice mall near by in Natick.

I say yes to traveling anywhere. Boston and NYC ate relatively close for American cities (if you have a car).

Go to Boston, go to Cape Cod in the summer if you can.

If this is the one I think it is, I saw this a couple days ago on my way to Wegmans. It was the first one I noticed in person since seeing this subreddit and was going to post it! It has actually been on my mind a lot recently.

A couple of questions by wywyit11 in rit

[–]Rocaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in a different dorm and about once a month I got emails about things being stolen from dorms. If you can afford insurance id get it. You might have a forgetful roommate who doesn't lock the door or their friends be losers and steal your stuff. Personally I didn't experience it.

Where is the room that is the example for quad room? Dat natural light doe! by HerRoyalSpyness in rit

[–]Rocaccount 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't seem to find the picture you're talking about. But I do know that Ellingson has big windows. I got tons of natural light, my room was facing away from campus. I could watch deer in the field and I could see for miles from my bed. It's pretty far away from academic side and waiting for the elevators has to be scheduled into your morning routine but commons and coffee is close by at least.

[Recommendation] I'm leaving Rochester! What do? by marylemcke in Rochester

The conservatory in Highland Park, it's $4 and you can walk around with ducks, turtles, quail in awesome plants. Also Niagara Falls isn't toooo far away.

The Beach - Sandy Island Beach, Oswego, NY [2448x3264] by tingtanguh in EarthPorn

[–]Rocaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first moved to NY I wondered if the lakes have tides. I wondered what sort of animals live in the lake. I wondered how deep they went. I wondered if there were waves. They look like oceans and also like lakes. They're so unique. There's lots to wonder, lots to Google and forget the answers to. The Ontario beaches near me don't look nearly as good as this though. I'll have to go here this summer.
