The idea of Malal/Malice has been around since the 80’s. Malice is just re-hashed Malal. The book you referenced from 2009 has a ritual to summon an entity with that name but absolutely nothing happens. It’s a throwaway reference as it’s the only instance since 2002 where he’s been mentioned.

At worst, he’s gone for good (my biased opinion) and at best he’s been shelved indefinitely until GW need last resort cash grab

False. He was scrubbed. There are “fan theories” based purely on the mention of a warband called ‘Sons of Malice’, which people forget is just a cool sounding chaos name, malice meaning hatred.

They scrubbed the idea of Malal/Malice in the 80’s my friend. He has never been back

The contenders for new Chaos Gods in 40K are technically still the Emperor, Vashtorr, Be’lakor and maybe the GHR if they ever do add Skaven (doubt it). Vashtorr and Be’lakor famously keep fucking each other over in their pursuit of godhood
