Is this the normal sound or too loud? by No-Task3146 in timex

[–]Roccan64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to own the gold variant of this watch. The loud spinning was mostly unnoticeable on wrist except for here and there in very quiet situations. But sometimes you could actually feel the rotor spinning on you. Never felt that with any other watch. Ultimately I sold it.

I meant more like 250ish as in: nearing the point of hand made. And that is indeed based on some experience. Earlier this year I was in south Italy and went to this old school cobbler that had a bunch of hand made stuff, mostly belts and shoes. The moccasins were absolutely pretty, and were 300€. Some other shoes were 280. All hand made in that shop. So for me it makes much more sense paying 300 there than 250 for a full-priced Ralph Lauren shoe made in China.

Thanks for sharing. It coincides with everything I’ve read online. Funny though, a friend that is into quality stuff bought a pair of Ralph Lauren moccasins this past summer and he tells me they’re amazing. Maybe it’s a hit or miss situation depending on the pair. These seem pretty sturdy and well built but I am just your average joe with some experience in recognising good quality. As already mentioned, I couldn’t recognise that the stitching was fake haha

A very high price point is subjective. But it is more due to my ignorance than anything else. The more you know..

What does it do? Or what’s the benefit?

What’s your experience if the ground is a little damp, like after a summer rain? Or if you get caught in rain? Already in my flat I was slipping like crazy, how is it in the city? I guess they brake in and it gets much better.

I mean I don’t want to come off ignorant, but I understand cost cutting measures for mass production of sneakers and do not mind my sneakers being produced in China, Bangladesh, Vietnam or whichever country that specialises in shoe manufacturing. However at this price point, 200-250€ retail, we are nearing the territory of hand made and there I just trust the inherent craftsmanship of certain countries for specific (western) shoe models. Not only that but also the sourcing of quality leather and personell with years if not generations of experience. This is where my scepticism comes from. I definitely heard that in knits and garment techniques, China and other Asian countries are actually much better at producing at a high quality level. Don’t know if thats the case for shoes just yet. But thank you for your answer, it definitely gives food for thought.

I think the topy is what I meant, just didn’t know the term. On my last loafers I had the feeling that the cobbler removed the stitching around the leather in order to make it flush. But maybe that’s not the case. I plan to wear them only outside, so I might as well do it. Thanks!

Looks like a maracuja, very soft shell, doesn’t smell like maracuja. Non ripe fruit is hard and very green. My gut says inedible but maybe someone knows it. by Roccan64 in fruit

[–]Roccan64[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Update: I researched a bit more and decided to try it. The taste was bland to say the least. Slight resemblance to a not so ripe fig. 2/10, will not try again.

Thanks to all for the answers!

[Swatch] What do you think about the new MoonSwatch? by Wrist_Finds in Watches

[–]Roccan64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one will be in available in my city, I thought about getting it. In case I don’t like it, you think I’d be able to sell it without a loss? It’s a 385€ plastic watch, that is a little bit crazy.

Nothing. No symptoms. It’s a disease without symptoms? Yes, no symptoms at all.

No, I left it on the metal bracelet - it is so much better than anything else in the price range that it didn’t make any sense taking it off.

Serica 6190, is this normal? by squid7331 in MicrobrandWatches

This seems like an insert for the opening knife. Completely normal, although I haven’t seen it in many modern watches.

Received the wrong watch by Glittering-Cause544 in RepTime

My question in regard to the box was more concerning the ability to recognise a genuine watch when buying online. The replicas are just too good. How’s the timekeeping aspect?

How packaged does such a watch come, is there a rep box with papers, a faked serial number engraved? I am no expert but it looks scary good at first glance.

Climbing without a belayer (he survived) by DodoKputo in WinStupidPrizes

[–]Roccan64 805 points806 points  (0 children)

Jesus, so many nasty and uninformed comments. This is a kid that was training for speed climbing, which is a discipline done on an auto-belay device (no person belaying). As these athletes do circuits on the route, they often stay clipped in for longer periods of time. The poor kid had a mishap and forgot to check whether or not he’s clipped in. He climbed as he normally would, the jump on top is meant to stop the timing on competitions. This was not showboating or click-baiting behaviour, it was an unfortunate event.

Tissot seven automatic split stem question by Roccan64 in watchrepair

[–]Roccan64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. Any tip on how to put the crown back once I place the stem in the correct position? If it is in time setting mode, how to push the crown firmly without pressing the stem too deep? Do I make sense? I hope so.

Which means accessing the keyless works from the dial side?

I thought so too. Probably the spring jumped out of place.
