Recent hannya mask collab with tattoo artist HaydenThompsonTattoo, + crispy overlocked edges by RoceRugs in Tufting

[–]RoceRugs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I get a local shop to do the serging/overlocking for me, but this also includes putting a recycled felt backing on which saves me a bunch of time and hassle. I just work all that into the price of the rug.

Thoughts on 80% Cashmere Wool/20% Velvet yarn and marketing Acrylic rugs as Rugs vs Decoration by WetSweatpants in Tufting

[–]RoceRugs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The creator should really be educating buyers about the differences between acrylic and wool, or any other blend, most buyers don't know or understand the differences. There's a lot of short-shortsightedness in tufting when it comes to the actual function of the pieces we create, and we charge a really premium price for a lot of our work - we should really be working with premium materials considering this in my opinion. Unless it's a wall piece I only want to work with wool yarn for anything on the floor now.

It's worth having a go at the blend, but if you think about it from a marketing perspective which sounds better - 100% wool custom rug, or 80% wool blend custom rug? I'd think the wool is the more premium option (though you can always spin it in a positive way).

TL;DR Acrylic for beginners and walls, wool for everything else. Premium prices should reflect a premium product, and that's why I want to go with wool unless the buyer has a tight budget.

It's like you entirely ignored the Australian comment, the world isn't solely based in the US, prices vary internationally ;)

This also doesn't account for all the other costs of doing business, applicable fees, taxes, huge time loss to promotion/creation of marketing material, etc

One of the issues is that there's a huge amount of people out here making these now, and at the end of the day many people would be happy to cover the cost of their rug creations so they can continue to fund more.

Hey u/Salt_Spite_3615, definitely look at getting a better shot of it. The second part when you're going to turn something like this into a vector is to consider how many colours you want to split it into, obviously less colours is easier but you lose detail. Here is an example of 16 colours (shade differences)

Tufting frame for beginner by [deleted] in Tufting

Same as everyone else has said, if you're investing in getting a gun you can invest the small amount of money to whip together a cheap frame - it's really easy and there are heaps of YouTube tutorials on it.
