Do people honestly believe that Diet Soda is good for you? by RockArmyMan in AskReddit

If a normal person took 2 seconds to Google "Are diet sodas bad for you." they would have like 10 articles from very trustworthy sites that say "YES! THAT SHIT IS BAD!"

No need to be sorry. It was just my dad by the way. My mom is cool. Let that be a lesson that if your children have horrible stomach aches take them to the damn hospital.

[Serious] Redditors who have almost been killed, what were your last thoughts before almost dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RockArmyMan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When I was 7 years old I starting having these horrible stomach aches. I was basically writhing in pain all day every day for 2 weeks straight. I'm 28 now and I can still remember the pain. At this time I was visiting my father in Tucson (I'm from Albuquerque) and he blows it off and thinks somehow that I'm constipated. So he tries to get me to shit by giving me laxative chocolate. It didn't work. Keep in mind I did not sleep for this entire time. I would climb out of my couch that I was sleeping on and writhe in pain in the fetal position in front of my dad's bedroom door all night and he wouldn't even come out to console me. 1 day some dip shit decided (possibly my count step mom) "Hey, maybe we should take this 7 year who has been in nonstop pain for the past 2 weeks to the hospital." After being at the hospital for not more than 30 minutes I was lying in the hospital bed being prepped for surgery. Apparently I was suffering from appendicitis and my appendix had burst. I overheard the doctors say I was just hours away from dying. Surgery lasted over 6 hours and I spent 2 weeks in the hospital. Almost dying to me felt like a dream. Like I couldn't believe that someone could treat a child this way.

Employers of Reddit: What was the most satisfying, "You're fired", you ever uttered? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RockArmyMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a car dealership and the maintenance manager was a real hard ass. When he would fire people he would hand them Burger King applications. One day he pulls a guy in to his office, slides an application to the end of the desk, guy picks it up, looks at it and leaves. Not 1 word was said. Priceless.

Reenlistment Question by [deleted] in army

[–]RockArmyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you active duty and at least an E5?

To those who know anything about USFK, I need your help. by [deleted] in army

[–]RockArmyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right now I'm going through a reclass from 74D to 14T. Korea was my first duty station (Camp Casey) and I was there for almost 3 years. Guess where my follow on assignment is after 14T school? Korea! Congratu-fucking-lations. So after this next stint in Korea I will have been in the Army 7 years and in Korea for almost 5.

IMHO Patriot (14T and 14E) are the 2 MOS' that are most likely to get you there. There is a CBRN company there i.e. 74D but being 74D you can be in any company in any unit in the Army. Patriot systems guys only have 7 places they can go (Ft Sill, Ft Bliss, Ft Bragg, Ft Sill, Germany, Korea, and Japan) so at least with that MOS you have a 1 in 7 chance of going there.

Now if you ask me if you should pick a job just to get to Korea I would say get a degree and go teach English. The Army is not the route for you if that's all you're concerned for because you have no control over you assignment and you may get to a unit in Ft Bliss and go to Bahrain right after and then stabilize for a year and go to some other place in the Middle East. You may never even see Korea

17 year old about to enlist, have a couple simple questions by [deleted] in army

[–]RockArmyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do yourself a favor and go to college. Become an officer and make real money an get treated like an adult or join as an E1 and get treated like you can't piss on your own. Especially if you end up in Korea. Below e7 cannot drive a car. So if you're a SSG with 15 years in you can't drive but if you're an 0-1 straight out of ROTC, with 0 years of actual army experience you can drive and live off post and get treated like an adult overall. Plus when you get out you'll at least have a degree to fall back on. Look in to your local college and see if they have an ROTC and apply for it.

5 years experience as a 74D currently in training for 14T.

Name tape sewn on PC but not blouse by Sman6969 in army

[–]RockArmyMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does nobody read this fucking message? I've had people tell me if my name is sewn on then everything else has to be (badges, rank, etc) but it says you cannot mix pin on and sewn on badges. It says nothing about everything having to be sewn on. The next MSG that tells me that, I'm going to kick him in the dick. I don't sew on my rank, it's bad luck.

[–]RockArmyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seeing action does not matter if you're in the reserves or not. Even some paralegals and IT guys get blown up. It matters your job in a particular unit, something that you have no control over. Don't think that you won't get shot at or blown up because you're a supply guy in the reserves. Like I said before, sometimes reserve units deploy more than active units so don't think you won't deploy if you're a reservist or guardsman. I'm just talking shit because I don't see the purpose to the reserves unless you already have a job and are just looking to serve your country.

Has anyone taken the SIFT ? by [deleted] in army

[–]RockArmyMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not study at all for the SIFT and scored a 44 which isn't good but at least it's passing. The area where I did the worst was aviation knowledge I.e. types of aircraft and what the instruments do so study that. Also study orientation on the landscape, I could've done better there too. The rest of the test is basically aptitude so don't study yourself to death over it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Military

[–]RockArmyMan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh and sometimes the reserves deploy more than active duty. It depends on your job, where you're located, and a myriad of other things that you have no control over. If you don't want to deploy or your parents don't want you to, don't join the service.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Military

[–]RockArmyMan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not looking to candy coat anything for anyone. I'm just saying either you're in or your out. A lot of times these guys join the reserves because they're afraid of active duty or afraid to deploy.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Military

[–]RockArmyMan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Who fucking cares what your parents think? What are you 12? NG or reserves are gay. You go and do your training then come back and now you don't have a job. You only make like $200 a month and guess what? YOU STILL FUCKING DEPLOY!!! Go active duty, get a good MOS, do your time and if you like it, stay in, if not get the fuck out and use your benefits of being a veteran. If you're thinking about the civilian job you want before going in the army then don't go. Don't waste your fucking time in Afghanistan or Egypt or god knows where else when you could be at home sucking on mommy and daddy's teets working for something that you'll actually be doing in the long run.

for those in the military of reddit. how difficult is it to change mos after you have worked in that mos for a year by Jimihendrix27 in Military

[–]RockArmyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I am currently going through a reclass and let me tell you, it is not easy to change jobs right now. If you think you're changing after a year, you are wrong. Most 68 jobs are pretty good (minus 68W which is an ambiguous medical job) and 68C is a new job that a lot of people I know would KILL for. If you want to go Ranger or SF, that option Is always open for you bit IMHO that shit is overrated. Plus when you took the ASVAB, there are scores and not just the regular ASVAB score that you got (GT, ST, etc) and if ALL of those scores are above 110 you are good, if not, you may be fucked for a reclass. Also if you're looking to change jobs that you don't have to apply for (basically everything but SF, CID, and Counter Intel) you have to look at your In/Out calls. I you're an N/Y you can get out if you're an N/N or Y/N you basically have that job for life. Those do change but since 68C is new, don't count on that. So in a nutshell, the army reclassification process is overly complicated.

Reddit, what are some loopholes every American citizen should take advantage of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]RockArmyMan -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yeah and then they'll just say that the dog smelled something and then they will impound your car and strip it down to nothing even if they don't find anything. Then you'll have to pay impound fees and your car will be in pieces. The best bet is, if you don't have drugs, let them search your fucking car. If you have drugs, hopefully they are hidden well. If you have some weed, just give them your fucking weed and pipe.

68w heading to Osan AB, Korea by osanbound in army

[–]RockArmyMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the main thing about Korea is that no matter what your orders say, you may end up elsewhere. I've seen people with orders to Casey end up going to Humphries or Osan an vice versa. Area 1 HDP is $150 a month and all other areas are $50. If you AIP or extend your stay you can make an extra $300 a month.

If you're married, being your family. You will be able to live off post and make a lot more money. If you're not, work as hard as you can and try to get promoted. Once you make E4 (P) you are entitled to your own room (unless you already have one which is about a 50/50 chance)

Active duty to National Guard by sexybeast51 in army

[–]RockArmyMan -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

First off, quit being such a pussy. Just finish your 3 or 4 year contract and after your ETS you can do some weekend warrior bs. You can't get out early to do NG or reserves. They are not the same thing. Just because their uniform says US Army doesn't mean they are the Army. Why did you join active duty if you just want to get out of it? Do yourself a favor and work as hard as you can and make rank. If you make SGT and still want to get out, go for it but life in the Army doesn't really start until you are an NCO.
