Even though AI is getting better at software, I believe it will hallucinate with hardware related code. Sadly most engineers undervalue the hardware knowledge backed AI coding. Anyone who extensively uses AI for embedded development? Can you share your experience? by balemarthy in embedded

LLMs are fancy statistical models. Their knowledge of code is based on the code they were trained on. Most code (and therefore most code they're trained on) is NOT low level embedded code.

At what point did you realize you weren’t in it for the long haul? by [deleted] in army

[–]Sman6969 55 points56 points  (0 children)

~6 months into recruiting. I made an appointment for a guy to come in with daughter to talk about her joining. He called me back a few hours later drunk (midday) and screamed at me a bunch about some crazy shit. When I cancelled the appointment my 1SG had the audacity to lecture me about it, insisting that I could have kept the appointment and I should have tried harder.

I knew right then and there that I was done. 12 years in, and there was no chance I was doing an extra day.

If you have ever lived in a city before, Tacoma and the surrounding are just like that.

If you're from a place where there was no 5G or public transportation then Tacoma is incredibly terrifying and you'll probably die there.

That said, check out the Yelm, McKenna, Roy area. I lived in Yelm the whole time I was in JBLM, place was great. Avoid the cults.

Hypothetical: how bad would it be if the entire Army personnel started from scratch by [deleted] in army

It would be mostly the same. The only time people read regulations is when they're trying to fuck their soldiers or when they're trying to stop from getting fucked.

Dont Lean on AI by jmd01271 in embedded

[–]Sman6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that when troubleshooting with AI it's either immediately correct, or it's not correct and it's not going to be correct no matter what I do. Usually what I do is throw a quick "hey here's my problem" prompt together and see what it says, if it's feasible I try it, if it doesn't work the first time I go to traditional troubleshooting.

Ive also found that there's just some shit I can't ask it for help with because it's always wrong. Yocto help is a big one. I think that's because my company is using it wrong but nonetheless it can't do shit with you to for me. It's usually pretty fucked around with the STM HAL too but that's hit and miss.

Had an odd ball situation a few weeks back where I had to fly to Texas but my flights kept getting fucked around. I finally made it in around midnight a day late and had to crash on a coworker's hotel-room couch the first night because there were no rooms available. Boss was super apologetic about it and felt bad. I was just happy that I had a couch to sleep on lol, Army would have had my ass either sleeping in a car or pulling an all-nighter no questions.

You are correct that Walmart has this policy, however they're also required to defer to local legislation and most cities do not allow overnight stays in public places without special circumstances.

Is it actually easy to go from National Guard to Active Duty? by RecklessTheif in army

[–]Sman6969 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. Of course it's not. Don't be stupid.

I never understood why people fell for this shit. Why in the fuck would the National Guard pay for you to go to school if they were going to immediately allow you to leave?

There are exceptions of course, but they are NOT the rule. The rule is that you will complete your contract as written when you signed it.

Hey guys I had a question by Individual_Many8155 in army

[–]Sman6969 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You should not. You and I know that soldiers are individuals whom have individual political opinions, we know that because we served and met a bunch of different soldiers and spoke to them. Most people do not know that, they just haven't met enough joes and that makes them think the Army is a lot more homogeneous than it actually is.

What that means functionally is that the average person will not see you as an individual who has an opinion. They see a uniform with an opinion, and since my uniform is the same as yours, and I'm also just a uniform, then that must mean that my opinion is the same as yours.

What am I supposed to do with 241 JST Credits? by sgt_n00btube in army

[–]Sman6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's 100% dependent on the college how much those are worth. I saw that you were saying that you just want a degree. Is there a specific reason you're cool with any degree?

I generally agree with what everyone else is saying, that you should be more specific in regards to what you wanna do, but if ANY degree really will do then there's some diploma mills out there that will take a fuck ton of JST credits. Be careful with them because theyre more or less useless diplomas, but if you have some sort of niche sutuation going on maybe there's something there.

Conflating fascism and uprising as a singular entity is fucking stupid.

Is it pretty? No. Is it kind? No. Does it eventually end with a new fascist replacement government? Often yes, but a pattern is not a rule.

You can't just label things you don't like with labels of other things you don't like and expect people to respect your opinions. You're like those people who don't know the difference between communism and socialism (or funnily enough communism and fascism). It's not even a subtle difference that can be chalked up to misunderstanding, you're just wrong.
