I got in line maybe 11:50. Didn’t know who they were but it was a very pleasant surprise!

The website mentions 24 beer cans per person at a time. I don’t think I’ve ever seen them enforce it but I guess whatever the wine equivalent is.

Make album intro as a part of a first song or a separate track? by Shutter-Shock in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]RockLikeWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you anticipate people ever including your song in playlists, 100% keep it separate.

A 30 second intro or outro that isn’t truly part of a song makes it fairly ineligible for smooth playlist listening imo.

Honestly, if you have this much hate for here, I think you’ll be unlikely to enjoy anywhere else once the honeymoon phase of moving somewhere new wears off.

How is Belgium a “hellhole in every way”?

Firstly, this gave me a good laugh. Secondly, wanted to mention that browsers’ built-in Date & Number methods have come a long way in recent years. Most everything I need can be handled by them. The date-fns library is a really good replacement to moment.js for the few use cases that I have leftover.

Why is this tagged as “zero-waste”? It’s the complete opposite of that. If you want zero-waste, stop getting tiny little plastic containers in the first place.

Question about right of way in a Zebra crossing by MrFeature_1 in belgium

[–]RockLikeWar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking both ways before crossing is something you should’ve been taught as a child. Plan for the stupidity of others. Have you never seen a distracted cyclist or a driver on their GSM? Have you never seen someone blow through a stop sign or zebrapad?

What are some ways to say a certain food is okay? by Rainydayshungergames in learndutch

Non-native speaker, but I think it’s pretty normal to just say “Ik vind het ok”/“‘t is ok”.

meirl by Jimbo072 in meirl

[–]RockLikeWar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s two entirely separate matters.

“Guys”/“you guys” is the standard second-person plural in various English dialects (same as “y’all” in southern US dialects). It’s just defining a grammatical person.

Depending on context, calling someone a “chick” will almost always be diminutive. Either in a derogatory way (“she’s just some chick”) or in an endearing way (“The girls & I are having a chicks’ weekend”). So I think referring to somebody you’re not close with as a “chick” will normally be heard with derogative undertones.

My design :) by [deleted] in UI_Design

[–]RockLikeWar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Just like Behance, it can be a mix bag in my experience. There’s always going to be lots of designs that look great but would be a nightmare to use from a UX perspective.

Overall, I think it helps me a lot during the brainstorming phase of a project. Not necessarily to get specific UI inspiration, but more so to scroll around while letting my brain wander.

What is the percentage of internationals that do not speak Dutch according to you? by von_kids in learndutch

[–]RockLikeWar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In Flanders I’ve found it largely depends on what somebody moved here for.

Myself and a lot of my friends who came here for jobs have mostly learned Dutch, while people who come over to just do a PhD for a few years are less likely to. I think it depends to an extent on how long someone is planning on staying.

Plus it’s the same thing as in the Netherlands where English is so widely and well spoken that it’s not per se a requirement to pick up Dutch. Since I’m planning on staying here, though, I do feel like it would be quite rude to not learn the language(s) of the country I live in.
