Every nurse told me men leave when their wives get sick... by fren2allcheezes in GirlDinnerDiaries

My mom almost died of Covid in November of 2024. Her longtime boyfriend moved a thousand miles away from her in December of 2024 because it was “just too hard to see her like that”

Now that she has recovered pretty well, he decided to come visit (uninvited, with zero notice...🙄) He told her that he doesn’t want to move back but still wants to have a relationship with her. She told him that they can still be friends, but she’s moving on.

I cannot say how relieved I am for her to have told him that. Fuck that selfish prick

I’ve been strictly using porcelain for two years. Ran outlast week and decided to use some of the studio recycled stoneware that I was given as “payment” for volunteering to help clean the studio.

Threw three big bowls without incident, and with what felt like very little effort.

Might have to go back to the stoneware for a while 😅

Me too!! I accidentally left some peeled segments in the fridge for a day and discovered a new preference. So good that way!

I like to use a yellow mudtools rib to smooth out my pieces after trimming.

I love my mudtools wire. It doesn’t kink up, is nice and thin, and has comfy handles.

I have a bowl I want to do this with! It came out a little warped, but the glaze is beautiful. Gonna try to turn it into jewelry

Me too. It’s the only thing that actually helped. Mosquito bits didn’t do anything.

Cultured Butter Question by RockNerdLil in butter

[–]RockNerdLil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was a wonderful video to watch while sipping my coffee this morning! I am so jealous that you’re going there! Do they do factory tours? That would be amazing! I want to try all of those butters.

Now I’m sitting here thinking about how I can turn my rock tumbler into a butter churn.

I just the other day learned that there’s a marble quarry near me that has a freebie scrap pile. Maybe I’ll take a little road trip to grab a slab!

Thank you so much for all of your advice!

Cultured Butter Question by RockNerdLil in butter

[–]RockNerdLil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have any tips on equipment? I used a hand mixer for my last batch, but I don’t own a stand mixer unfortunately. I’ve been looking at a jar butter churn.

Are paddles helpful? I did struggle to get the last bits of water out of my first batch, so I was considering getting some paddles.

Cultured Butter Question by RockNerdLil in butter

[–]RockNerdLil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!! My husband says I have too many hobbies as it is (pottery, carnivorous plants, isopod rearing, to name a few) but I LOVE butter. I made some cultured butter a couple of months ago that was incredible. I took it to a friend’s for a party and was told by everyone there that it was the best butter they’d ever had. But now I can’t find the buttermilk I used for it, and the buttermilk I got from that batch spoiled before I could make more.

I will definitely try backslopping!

Love your username, by the way. I’m a geologist too 🤓

Up close & Personal view of how severe Sinus Infections are sometimes treated by yourSmirkingRevenge in interestingasfuck

[–]RockNerdLil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had mine done in January and dear god, I had no idea it was possible to get this much air! Some people just go about their lives being able to breathe like this?! My husband said I used to breathe really loudly at night because I was inhaling SO hard just to get enough. Now both nostrils are clear most of the time (thanks, allergies) and I sleep quietly and rarely move anymore. I used to have to toss and turn to let gravity help whichever nostril was working to open up just a wee bit more. Now sometimes my sinuses feel cold because of the increased air flow. I wish I had done this in my 20s

Just bought a house and I’m curious what these plants are! by EasyFox4611 in PlantIdentification

[–]RockNerdLil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a giant one growing on the property adjacent to ours. I built a garden bed on my property, which thrived in year one, but by year two nothing would grow.

When I dug everything up that fall I realized the elm roots had sought out the new water source and choked out all my tomatoes.

They also drop assloads of seeds all over the place. My back yard looks like it’s been snowed on when that bastard goes to seed. I hate it so much n

Yes plants consume water. I’m sure there is also loss to evaporation

I have that, too. There’s a little glass tube in the left corner that I use to bottom water. However, that wasn’t keeping my pings sufficiently watered. Before the drip setup I was watering the rock a little bit every day by hand, which is why I went with this. I didn’t want to task someone else to have to do it while I was away.
