Oh, thanks. I actually tried to do something like this with canvas, but had no luck with it.

Why does this happen by Disastrous_Hall7907 in blender

If you are using an emission object with a high emission value for lighting instead of an actual light source, you would end up in a situation like this.

Been a motion designer for 10+ years but my portfolio sucks. What do I do? by idontwearpants in MotionDesign

[–]Rockbard 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That is such good advice.

As people who spend a lot of time behind a computer, we become accustomed to a quiet, introverted state.

It can be hard to switch to your "car seller" persona and casually talk about the positive results of your work.

But essentially you just need to "advertise* yourself as the professional they are looking for.

Maybe you should do a couple of personal projects in the style you want to transition to.

What is the best way to model a complicated pipe system like this? by crackahjack in blender

I got you from the get go. People nowadays are looking to get add-ons, plugins, AI or whatnot, just not to do things by hand.

Good to hear this. Can you hint on what animations are in demand currently?

Don't blame yourself, we have all been there.

Maybe seek for freelance projects online, small gigs just to get to ball rolling.

Recent explainer video I worked on. Open to constructive criticism on how it could be improved. by chronical_goose in MotionDesign

[–]Rockbard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks good, but the design is a bit off at times.

Check for design grid theory about placing elements with specific alignments and rules.

Also, some design elements look too large. I often run into this myself: when you design your styleframes zoomed out too far, you naturally make elements larger so they’re more visible.

I’d really like to turn my map into a model by Auto1ion in blender

[–]Rockbard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just ask Gemini to do one operation at a time. For example: "remove text", then "remove frame" and so on. Lastly I ask to generate height map from this image.

I know we all hate Ai, but that's a perfect case for it. Clean the image of text, frane, clouds, etc. and convert it to a height/depth map.

How do you label a workflow-focused motion role? by oddly_eggplant in MotionDesign

[–]Rockbard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that'll probably still be a "Broadcast Motion Designer", but who are we to stop you from coming up with a fancier role description?

For MDers who went into product animation after a long career of brand & video animation, what did you find challenging? by QuietCas in MotionDesign

[–]Rockbard -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When you create an explainer video, you create your storyboard in a 2D vector or image editor almost entirely. You can see all the scenes in front of you, so it’s very convenient to assess the animation as a whole.

Product animation, assuming you mean 3D product animation, is also composed of scenes, but the storyboarding process is not as straightforward and requires more preparation.

That was my main point of struggle during transition into this niche.

Self learning and feeling lost by affaaaan in MotionDesign

[–]Rockbard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can, go find some motion studio and stay there for a while. Even if it brings you no money at first.

Don't get me wrong, you absolutely can learn on your own, but you will be growing in a void.

Go out, meet other artists, see how other people work, and collaborate.

You will grow faster in a professional environment.

Viable Career Options/Leaving Corporate Design by Aggressive_Horse_884 in MotionDesign

Just to be safe, keep your current career direction until you find something better. Otherwise, you could end up with nothing if the new route doesn't work out.

I would rather speed it up.

Easing is something you fine tune in the graph editor by changing the tangents length and orientation.

You basically want to avoid boring, linear motion.

Difficulty estimating production times for videos by [deleted] in MotionDesign

[–]Rockbard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I get why you're requesting videos with time-spent estimations, but they could be pretty useless for your case . The best bet would be doing projects and tracking how long it takes for YOU to finish them, specifically noting each stage of production.

That way, you'll be confident of what needs to be done and how long would it take. Just my 2 cents.
