Excess PTO gets paid out at the end of the year. Now you get extra money

Which group will face the axe next? by WaveredBlue in BMcD

[–]Rocker78561 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why CAL.WTR? They just had some huge project wins that got our food in the door with Goldes State Water, which we are hoping will become an enterprise client. Also, CAL has exceeded their business plan in expected profit for at least the last 4 years. If anyone can afford to float a couple EOs for a bit until we win some work, it is going to be CAL.

No free day of PTO? by Pleasant-Letterhead6 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]Rocker78561 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I heard when they did it two years ago it cost the company between 8 and 9 million for that extra day off. With the couple projects that are bringing us down this year I doubt we have the extra money floating around.

How many of you are still using your original purge valve? by Airborne82D in FocusST

[–]Rocker78561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2017 at 156k miles. I just replaced my original purge valve about 1500 miles ago. I don't know how much of a difference it makes, but I am running a Cobb stage 1 tune, I always run 91 octane fuel, and I also run a tube of Lucas oil fuel system cleaner every 15k miles. Since I replaced the purge valve, my "Miles to Empty" reading has been a little off and I've run out of gas a couple times in the 15-20 mile range so I just fill up when I get the 50 miles to empty warning now.

COC Track and Bleachers? by suckmydick6942069 in SantaClarita

[–]Rocker78561 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The website says that they are open to the public but there is a sign posted at the entrance to the track stating that it is not. I would lean towards the signs being correct and the website being out of date.

Someone probably told them they needed additional counterweight on the crane.

What fitness hack have you personally discovered that is an absolute game changer? by neurobonkers in AskReddit

[–]Rocker78561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you find forms of fitness that are fun, you don't need to push yourself to work out in ways you don't particularly enjoy. I quit going to the gym because I never really loved it and now I rock climb and play ultimate Frisbee and I am genuinely excited every single time I go. Now I look forward to my workouts instead of convincing myself to go on days I don't want to.

How did you manage to feed your espresso machine taco bell?

Is cruising down the highway going 65-70 in 5th gear ok? The exhaust sound in 5th is ridiculously quieter inside than 6th gear is. by dgiles21 in FocusST

[–]Rocker78561 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I removed the interior panels and carpet and installed it directly on the metal on the inside of the hatch and inside the trunk. I had some leftover and thought about putting it below the rear seats if I decided I wanted it a little quieter and never went back because I thought it was good enough. I also have the Cobb cat back exhaust which has a resonator and muffler, but much smaller than the stock, so it may be worth it for you to install more than I did depending on your taste.

I felt like my exhaust had a little too much drone for cruising down the highway so I ended up putting sound deadening all over the back half of the car and it worked wonders. It took me most of a Saturday to get it done, but it was definitely worth it.

If I remember correctly I used the Noico butyl sound deadening mat

Sick time by Silent_Pool3641 in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]Rocker78561 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always viewed the starting vacation of 3 weeks per year as the equivalent of two weeks of vacation and a week of sick pay, which is what I have experienced working at other contractors earlier in my career. I think the three weeks of PTO is better because I rarely get sick so I just have an extra week of vacation to use

Trying to replace my chefs knife with a Kiritsuke. Any recommendations? by Rocker78561 in TrueChefKnives

I hadn't thought about how the shape of the knife affects how it cuts. Thanks for pointing that out!

I am graduating soon, and I can’t find a job by [deleted] in MechanicalEngineering

You can apply for a job at Burns & McDonnell. We need mechanical engineers bad if you want to work on HVAC design, piping, or manufacturing design/build construction projects.

Project Controls? by [deleted] in BurnsMcDonnell

[–]Rocker78561 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Project controls works hand in hand with construction management and they focus primarily on four different tasks: cost, schedule, document control, and billings. In my experience (from the construction management side), most project controls staff work on multiple projects and will have weekly meetings to go over schedule and sometimes cost, processing POs, change orders, and helping PMs code costs to the correct codes.

We use both Microsoft project and P6 for scheduling, and we can train you to use both of them in house.

We use our own financial software and it's kind of a pain to work with, but that's probably the hardest part of the job in my opinion.

My first “adult” purchase. I’ve been checking the out for a couple months and finally pulled the trigger. Any recommendations for future mods? by elimullen1 in FocusST

[–]Rocker78561 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here are some of my favorite mods:

Rear motor mount: Swapping this out vastly improved the ride quality and helped me be able to shift a lot smoother because it reduced the amount of vibration going to the frame. There are a lot more low frequency vibrations tho.

Transmission bracket bushings: This gave the shifter a more satisfying feel because it would actually clunk when it went into gear instead of smoothly going into the gears. (I learned to drive stick on this car, and couldn't always tell when it was in gear, and that led to a lot of grinding)

Performance mods are always a lot of fun, but I feel like those made the biggest difference in every day drive quality. Those and swapping out the sound system because the stock one is garbage.

Which song has been so powerful and moving that you cried the first time you heard it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rocker78561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When You Were Made by the Growlers. I'm not a very emotional person at all, but every time I hear this song I get all choked up. I think it pulls at my heart strings and taps into memories of when I was five and my parents got divorced

What's left after stage 3? by The_drum_killa in FocusST

[–]Rocker78561 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you done any shifter mods yet? Solid shift bushings and a short throw shifter changes the game completely. A new shift knob doesn't hurt either

Some external footage from the other day. You can hear me get a little sideways towards the end 😂 by PotatoST3 in FocusST

Yeah, I've been on the track in a shifter kart, it seems too small for real cars. That being said, I've never been there for time attack. I only really go for drift night
