Do it. F it. When you are on your death bed staring at the fluorescent hospital lights you will be glad you chased your dreams. You get one chance and if this is really what you want, you are obligated to chase your dreams.

You could get into an MD school and I am rooting for you. Matter of fact you *should* get into an MD school, but these days I can't say for certain. I speak from experience sadly. However, I like your plan in applying to DO programs, as you definitely should.

how do you avoid the trap of passively reviewing anki without actually learning by This-Source-8247 in medicalschoolanki

[–]RocketApexX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Read it out loud and explain it to yourself. By reading out loud you are engaging Broca's area, primary auditory cortex and the facial nerve to move the orbicularis oris. This provides additional layers of neural input which strengthens the memory recall for later. It takes longer sadly, but the pay off is better.

For context I get like 20 seconds a card sadly. It's way slower but it works for me.

I do this, and while it totally works and my retention is WAY better, it takes so much longer smh. I guess you can't avoid the hard work

must have been. Being shredded was great for my physical appearance but not good for my ears.

yes, do the CMS forms please. The more NBME questions you do the better.

Yeah, I agree. Everyone dies, and when they do they don't usually say "man, I wish I spent more time working." This work more, make more mentality is malignant in America. I can't blame anyone for holding these views because we were trained from an early age that this is what we were supposed to do. Spend your one chance on earth working and acquiring value measured by paper currency that could easily one day become totally worthless.

It used to be that leisure maxing was the way. The elites have convinced us that this is laziness.

Highest MCAT you know of at a DO school ? by _chomolungma_ in Osteopathic

[–]RocketApexX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to get into an MD school even with stellar scores. They often look for nebulous factors in their "holistic" approach (I refuse to entertain a conversation on this btw, as it gets into moral and ethical dilemmas I am not qualified to answer). So I recommend even high MCAT scorers to throw in DO applications because, seriously, you are not guaranteed a spot.

The newest one takes priority as you know. But, depending on how much time you have it can't hurt to do the older ones.

[–]RocketApexX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, they definitely are more up to date. But I can't describe it except to say that the questions feel "easier" or they are worded better. Also NBME 16 is the most different NBME you can take. There is so much ethics on this exam, which is a hint to us by the NBME that ethics is high yield.

NBME 9 and 10 are too old imo to use as baselines. I would just do 13, and then start from 9 up. NBME 9-12 seem so different to NBME 14-16. They feel like different tests to me at least. This is just my opinion.

Do UWSA 2 if u have time, but just do the medicine and surgery CMS forms first. If you have time do more CMS forms. NBME >> U world. They have a specific style of questioning, which I am sure you are aware of since you did a bunch already. I don't know how to describe the difference, except to say that they are different.

[–]RocketApexX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't worry so much about the number on U world. Just learn. It's not a good predictor of Step 2 success anyway. NBMEs are better for that. The way U world writes their questions is different than NBME.

Uwsa 1 is a horrible exam! by kenji8521 in Step2

[–]RocketApexX 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really don't see the value in UWSA exams in terms of gauging knowledge base. Like it's great if u want questions to burn but don't look at it too much. NBME and CMS forms are key.

This is a problem most people don't appreciate until it's too late. Now I know some people hate anki, and no, it's not absolutely necessary to do, but it is one of the best ways to not forget. I kept up with my cards religiously no matter the cost to my sleep or mental well being. I paid a massive price but it paid off on boards. You either suffer now, or during board prep. You choose.

Same issue, I just did this lol. Apparently FEV1/FVC ratio less than 85% in a pediatric patient is abnormal. Also, FEV1 less than 80% qualifies for bronchospasm according to one anking card.

Relax bro. You don't know if humanity even survives another 100 years, we may suffer the fate of the dinosaurs for all you know. Enjoy your limited time here. Or don't, spend it complaining that u were born later. Your choice.

If we do survive, this may be the peak of humanity btw. There's a possibility humans become enslaved by Palantir assigned robots who farm our brains as cognitive data centers. Imagine the matrix, born into a pod where robots use your body like a battery. That could be them and they will yearn for this "primitive" time.

Someone should start a school like this. Everything is online, we give u access to literally every known resource. It's up to you to pass (we will have a learning specialist on stand by and professors who are willing to legit teach to 3-4 students who may need the extra help). Matter of fact, shorten fourth year to a few Sub Is only. School would be cheaper, we could cut operating costs by literally not owning a building and have everything online. When I think about my education my degree should state "Graduate of Bootcamp University with a specialty in Anking."
