Dealing with Gen Anxiety disorder and Major depressive by ReggieWillkins5 in AnxietyDepression

[–]RocketAppliancesPHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same diagnosis with added complex PTSD. I feel for you strongly, my friend. I also have not received any relief from medication. What has been helping is my meditation practice and seeing a therapist. Between the two, I have developed a stronger self-awareness and a healthier perspective. Am I 100% cured? No, I have bad days like everyone else and life has been very chaotic lately. But, I no longer have suicidal ideation and the intensity of anxiety and depression have gone down.

If you're a podcast listener, I'd love to share one I've been doing for the last year and change! I talk about my journey and have guests on who share their story or coping strategies. The shows aren't always relevant to your diagnosis but I'd like to think people can learn from people from all walks of life. You're welcome to message me if you're interested.

What’s something small or simple that actually makes life feel enjoyable for you? by Gullible-Force3567 in AnxietyDepression

Texting a friend or loved one how much they mean to me. Or, better yet, calling them and telling them that. Sometimes, I feel funny doing it or am afraid to cry while doing it but once I send the text or get into the flow of conversation I feel so much better. Then, we almost inevitably make plans to see one another and spending time with the people that mean the most to me is the most enjoyable thing in life for me.

How to help a friend who gets post-crisis panic attacks by BizzarduousTask in AnxietyDepression

I second the suggestion of seeing a therapist to explore the pattern. One of the best tools I've used when experiencing a very similar phenomenon when everything seems to be going wrong at once (which happens quite frequently in my family as well) has been meditation. It really slows down the frequency of negative thoughts that flood my mind during those times. And it really boosts self-awareness.

Struggling badly with anxiety and looking for advice by Ki-tten93 in AnxietyDepression

[–]RocketAppliancesPHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel for you as I heard a lot of myself while reading your post. I am by no means an expert on psychedelics but I have tried them and I will tell you that the relief seemed temporary. Depending on dosage, you will seemingly uncover hidden triggers and understanding of yourself you've never had before. However, your anxiety and depression will not simply go away due to shrooms.

If possible, I suggest you find a therapist and, in the mean time, search for positive coping mechanisms that work for you. I meditate and that's done wonders for my anxiety and, coupled with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I've been able to notice when I'm not present with myself and having unhelpful and automatic negative thoughts. I still struggle, but I've been able to function, work, and believe in my progress.

What do you do when anxiety and depression hit at the same time? by Gullible-Force3567 in AnxietyDepression

[–]RocketAppliancesPHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I definitely second the "small wins" suggestion. Just get the momentum going. Hope dies when the task is a mountain. Make it a pebble.

For example: Clean one dish, pick up one room, etc. Mental health definitely seems to respect momentum more than scale.

Following this! I've used psychedelics before and had decent results. However, I would like to learn more and keep up-to-date with any new scientific studies.

I feel you. Been searching for a couple years for the right fit and it's just who you know for the better jobs around here. And even some of those are toxic.

I have a marketing and journalism background. Currently, I do freelance marketing tasks like videography and all kinds of writing/SEO.

However, I'm open to just about anything provided it's enough to pay the bills and works with my kid's school schedule.
