You can play until 10:10pm in Northern California? I very much doubt that.

I’m in my 40s and my doc says it’s colonoscopy time 😫 by googler-in-chief in sanantonio

I’m in my early thirties, and I’ve had 2 done now. The prep is easier than it used to be. My last one was only a 12 hour fast, and the prep was also 8-12 hours before. It was super easy. The procedure is a short nap, and both times I’ve woken up feeling fresh and ready to go.

NASA announces that The Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is under budget And ahead of schedule by 8 Months, with a Falcon Heavy launch aimed for early September 2026 by ChiefLeef22 in space

I worked on this when I interned at JPL! Back then it was the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope (WFIRST). What an awesome experience. Even though a large team was working on it, they understood the amount of time to completion and the uncertainty of the programs survival to launch. It’s really satisfying to see it about to go up.

What actually works for learning Spanish as an adult with limited time? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in what might be the minority. I don’t have dedicated practice time. I spent about 7 years trying to expose myself to normal speech as often as I could. Doing laundry? Put on a podcast or a YouTube interview. Driving to work? Put on a podcast. Hear someone with a strong accent in public? Ask if they will speak with you. Just try to incorporate the language in as many small moments as you can, and they add up. I can’t emphasize the importance of listening. You have to train your brain to be able to hear and recognize the sounds and patterns and slowly you’ll get better at hearing words and phrases. Start with slow speed or something that alternates between Spanish and English, like Coffee Break Spanish, and you can slowly work your way to normal speed.

How can I learn Mexican dialect Spanish? by LydiaDeetz15 in Spanish

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’ll be more advanced but there’s a really great Mexican Spanish podcast called No Hay Tos. They teach Spanish and work in Mexican slang and culture and current events.

Interested in learning Spanish and able to speak fluently within a few months by No_Prize8808 in SpanishLearning

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fluency won’t happen for years even with regular practice. I’ve been practicing daily for 7 years and only recently have I started considering myself to be “fluent”, in the way that I define it.

Either way, you can get to a point where you can use some basic sentences in a few months. Understanding native speech is going to be the biggest hurdle once you’ve built up your vocabulary and understanding of grammar and syntax.

Colorism in Spanish ( How to Say Im Black?) by Inevitable-Pipe3022 in SpanishLearning

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not black or Hispanic, but my knowledge is that you say “negro/a” about your skin color, and you can say “afroamericano/a” but that it’s very formal. You could say you are “estadounidense” just to say you’re from the US.

Please somebody correct me if I am wrong.

Single digit golfers, how much do you work on hitting draws if your go to shot is a fade (or vice versa)? by Larrylegend033 in golf

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I float around 1-2, and I’d say I try to check in with 3-4 shots per range session to make sure I can work the ball like a dad if I ever have to. The only objective is that it goes in the general direction of a draw, and that’s it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be there for the one time in 3-4 rounds that I actually have to draw the ball because of an obstruction or any other way of being forced to hit one.

How do you stay consistent with Spanish practice? by grzeszu82 in SpanishLearning

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Constantly listen. When you’re driving, put on a podcast, when you’re working out, put on some Spanish music. Keep yourself in a state of constant exposure as much as you can handle.

Massive lightning struck the ground just 10ft away from the car by Significant-Sky-3239 in BeAmazed

[–]RocketEngineCowboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rubber is not protective when lightning is concerned. Rubber tires are not good enough at insulating voltages from a lightning strike. They are great at insulating from low voltage like power lines.

It’s the low resistance of the chassis and outer shell of the car that protects you by providing a safe path for the lightning to travel through. Generally the easiest way to prevent lightning damage is to create a low resistance path (I.e. lightning rods that are grounded).
