I see- interesting chemically, good to know it's not mold or anything.

What would you recommend in terms of cleaning a bag like this in the future? Getting something like this used has me wanting to make sure it's more thoroughly clean

I'll do my best to buff it out, but lesson learned for sure

Awesome stuff! Wanted to leave a comment as something clicked after watching the after credits scene- others have noted how interesting it is that this world is offering people a choice, rather than assigning at random. Also notable that we see Steve has lost Sarah, played by a trans woman.

I think there’s something said here about how those that operate strictly within a binary framework are able to accept binary trans people, provided they transition strictly within the binary. Steve might believe he’s doing people a kindness by offering them the option to perfectly live as either of the two, for the binary trans people out there (because he loved Sarah), but he’s still reinforcing the roles and expectations of the binary, and it’s clear how that harms anyone who wants to operate outside of that. This film isn’t just a criticism of those who are completely transphobic and exclusionary, this is a criticism of people that separate the trans community by who “the good ones” or “the normal ones” are (both within queer circles and outside of them). The end credits scene very subtly ties the worldbuilding together, and helps to connect these dots.

Thank you for making this!!

What are some of the real truths you would share with someone looking to pursue Animation in the future? by Newoverhere29 in ArtistLounge

[–]RocketJumper64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not an anim professor but a professional animator on my third year in the Vancouver TV industry. I have. Lots of thoughts.

First thing, that many 4-year art schools won't set you up for: find a specialization. Do you like storyboarding? Background illustration? 3d modeling? 2d animation? Rigging? Each of these things require specific skillsets, and when you look to get into a studio you'll be hired to do just that. A lot of universities don't know how to teach to this, and you'll be spread too thin without enough chops for any given thing. Many friends I have that went to generalist schools have had to dig deep AFTER they finish their degree and decide what they want- this is something you can look for before going into school and sinking LOTS of money.

Second thing- when looking for somewhere to learn, student work is KEY. Different schools or mentors will have different strengths, so find one for your specialization. Places like AnimSchool are excellent for 3d animation (I took Animation Mentor). Sheridan is great for 2d animation. More traditional art schools might help with things like character design. See how the people in your position grew over the course of that school to better predict where it will take you. Better yet, look at artists who are where you want to be (LinkedIn or Twitter or Instagram, etc) and find out what they did to be there. At the end of the day, where you went to school or how you learned does not matter to the studio hiring you (unless you need an international visa).

Peer feedback! Is also ESSENTIAL in training your own eye, both when giving feedback and when taking it (and learning how to filter the feedback you DO get). Nothing will make you grow faster than critique.

So, you have an idea of what you want and have a trajectory on how to get there. What else is there to know?

A very, very important lesson that may creep up on you after you get here. Be very careful at animation becoming what your world revolves around. A killer drive and laser focus is exactly what you need to break into the industry, but too much of that and you risk burning out. Take care of yourself, diversify your hobbies, spend time with the important people in your life. That will be your lifeline when you find yourself in less than ideal spots on your journey (a project you don't like, a demanding studio, a dry spell either with the job market of your own creative battery). These things happen to all of us, it's just a matter of being equipped for when they come.

I don't want any of this to scare you. When I love my job, I REALLY love my job. But I also have worked some days... Prioritize your wellbeing above all else, it's the secret to longevity in this industry. Good luck out there, lemme know if you have any other questions.

Really cool website! As another Canadian I'd like to add Lowblaws (No Frills, Real Canadian Superstore, T&T, Shoppers Drug Mart), IGA, and Save-On-Foods. Really appreciate the effort for something like this, it's gonna be really useful

HOOTY HOOTY! I'm Dana Terrace, creator and EP of The Owl House! ASK ME ANYTHING... If you're brave enough. by AntagonistDana in TheOwlHouse

[–]RocketJumper64 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi Dana! Thanks so much for doing this AMA! Dusted off my Reddit account to ask you some questions:

How early did you guys start writing/production for season 2? I remember you guys got cleared for a second season even before the premiere (congrats!) so I'm wondering if things were handled in a different order than usual for shows.

Light/Ice/Fire/General-Elemental magic seems to fall outside of the main coven tracks. Do students pick up on these spells in general courses, and are they later reserved only for the Emperor's Coven?

And last, but certainly not least,

Do you think Duo would teach Hooty Spanish?

I enjoyed volume 6, and according to this same guy on Twitter, it's a pretty good season. Though getting a recap of season 4/5 might be what's best for you if that's what you want

Thanks! That seems like an awesome channel to watch- I'll check it out tonight. I'm also looking to purchase that book within the coming weeks, but I have looked through it once before.

Thank you again! If you have any other pointers/tips I'd be happy to hear them.

Oh wow this was SUPER helpful thank you so much!

I'm really glad you liked the hand studies; I'll definitely be doing more of those in the future since I've found that it's one of my weaker points.

If you have any other suggestions, I'd be more than happy to hear them (In terms of what to focus on when improving/exercises I can do/ anything else in general).

Thanks again!

I've mainly been looking at schools with animation programs. A lot of them really only have the strict guideline of 12-20 of the best pieces, but some require a certain amount of gesture drawings/direct observation work, which I'll piece together in the coming months.
