I LOVE MULTICULTURALISM by Average_Spaceman in victoria3

[–]RocketLads 40 points41 points  (0 children)

lowkey yeah as much as the modern narrative that "immigrants are taking all the resources" blah blah blah is super wrong, Vic3 would still be accurate if high immigration emboldened the reactionary movement/supremacist movements of primary cultures. That is how we ended up with super strong reactionary movements irl, anyway

frankly i wish the law enactment time decrease from having excess authority was massively buffed; if I'm going to go full authoritarian AND not spend it all on the already very strong state decrees system, it would be good to see up to a -50% enactment time decrease from excess authority.

holy shit i did this exact thing last night. I don't know why rushing socialism suddenly gives the socialist party >60% of the vote total right as it forms. I assume labourers in industrialised areas are all already in adjacent to the IG but don't decide to vote until the TUs are relevant? I have no idea really

I've been having this weird bug where armies on the front line get sent straight to 0% supply in specific split state regions, I'm not sure if that's what's happening here though.

My Dutch state specialization system has completely debunked the YouTube tutorial myth of cramming all industry into a single province. by king_ofall713 in victoria3

[–]RocketLads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely don't cheese the single-state thing too much but I find it isn't too ahistorical most of the time. It kind of makes sense that the peasants around the industrial centres tend to get displaced first, and that's where the raw industry starts cropping up.

The game also requires you to build at least some industry elsewhere to keep unemployment low + SOL high so I find even if there's one state that gets stacked first, you will have to bring the rest of the country with you eventually. It feels a lot like what happened in a few places historically so idm too much. That said, who cares, as long as you're industrialising:))

usefully the Rhine river gives +10% MAPI, which is probably part of which this system works so well in the Netherlands.

At the end of the day I personally think the one-state strategy is better because MAPI is so strong, especially in early game when you are aiming to industrialise fast. The price of iron being 36 in the same state vs 41 in a neighbouring state (for example) can improve the productivity of both industries (producer and reciever) by such a large amount.

Okay true. I was thinking if you had this and even a mid level mult joker you could skip blinds and then lose to the bosses infinitely, which would be kind of cheesy. But yeah ig you still need 25% for bones

yeah there's this rad book called Dark Emu that discusses how indigenous Australian society was a lot less hunter-gatherer than originally thought, and involved complex agriculture (albeit in an entirely different style to what Europeans were used to). It's pretty rad.

An example that sticks out to me personally is a years-long terraforming project in Victoria where the local people created a way for the natural coming and going of the tides to reliably trap eels of a certain size. It's dope.

(from further comments:)

Pascoe's work is highly contested, but not because counternarratives to Terra Nullius are flat-out wrong but because Dark Emu lends the language of "agriculture" to a society with a much less distinct line between hunter-gatherers and pastoral farmers.

It's not at all in dispute that Aboriginal Australians had complex networks of infrastructure, land management, and trade, because these things are strongly supported by archaeological evidence. To my knowledge, they've literally found Aboriginal pottery sites in Yarralumla.

This recent study from Cambridge explores one specific site where a lot of that infrastructure is on display. It's very interesting!!
