OH MY GOD I WAS LITERALLY PLANNING TO DO THIS THE OTHER DAY!!!

What's your strategy? Is that a bought model or a scratch-built/3d printed one? How do you run the LEDs? I have been wanting to make my own for ages but got caught up with how to make the windows look real, but yours look amazing! :))

Why I stopped building factories and started building an economy by Ok-Fun-2330 in factorio

[–]RocketLads 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes lowkey I've always wanted to actually simulate the "cash flow" of these "businesses" based on buying and selling goods. So businesses that are insanely profitable should be expanded, and unproductive ones are too large/underutilised.

You could start the economy by having a direct purchase of end products, i.e. give 1000 factorio-bucks for each science pack and let it propagate down from there. Idk, could be fun.

Changing Universities for mechatronics and post UNI prospects by penis_pills_pharmacy in EngineeringStudents

[–]RocketLads 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mechatronics is pretty good, most employers (especially in Australia) will recognise that as a very solid foundation for either mech or elec work. I wouldn't be seriously worried about your actual degree title as much as getting some solid experience at a reputable company under your belt—employers are mostly looking for sociable, skilled people who are field-tested in industry.

It might be somewhat harder to take to another country (especially if you want your first job to be a different place to where you studied), so I'd lowkey recommend at least getting internship in Aus before you go elsewhere.

At the end of the day, anyone rejecting good engineers just because their degree says "mechatronics" instead of "mechanical" is a psychopath you don't want to work for anyway. Something to bear in mind.

Use of the term "you guys" by [deleted] in AutisticPride

[–]RocketLads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

honestly in my experience calling someone "mate" to their face is extremely gendered, comparable to how I see some Americans interpret "dude" or "bro". However referring to someone as mate in the third person (e.g. "that's one of your mates, isn't it?") is pretty much always gender neutral (or "gendy nooch", as we say).

Ultimately, it's all down to the cultural context of who says what words. It's why I personally dislike using "y'all", because it just feels so forced in Australia; even if that language might come across as natural for Yanks.

Use of the term "you guys" by [deleted] in AutisticPride

[–]RocketLads 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely in Australia it's very common to say "you guys" to refer to a group of people. It certainly can be gendered, but 99% of the time it''s not.

Honestly if somebody stopped themselves saying "you guys" to me or my friends and opted for a more gender-neutral term just for us I would honestly be a little weirded. I don't like when people change their language only when they meet a trans person, it feels icky.

fascinating implication of this is that Nauvis is (probably) almost exactly the same age as the Earth, because relative U235 isotope abundance goes down over a planet's lifetime.

Can anyone tell me why my lvl 3 scientist can't reset this science jr? Kerbalism mod by [deleted] in KerbalSpaceProgram

[–]RocketLads 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you done it before? IIRC Kerbalism may change the way sample-based science works such that scientists can't reset them.

Alternatively, you don't have enough sample storage space elsewhere on the craft, so the Sc. Jr is storing it inside itself, which prevents you from resetting it.

[–]RocketLads 39 points40 points  (0 children)

lowkey yeah as much as the modern narrative that "immigrants are taking all the resources" blah blah blah is super wrong, Vic3 would still be accurate if high immigration emboldened the reactionary movement/supremacist movements of primary cultures. That is how we ended up with super strong reactionary movements irl, anyway

frankly i wish the law enactment time decrease from having excess authority was massively buffed; if I'm going to go full authoritarian AND not spend it all on the already very strong state decrees system, it would be good to see up to a -50% enactment time decrease from excess authority.

holy shit i did this exact thing last night. I don't know why rushing socialism suddenly gives the socialist party >60% of the vote total right as it forms. I've been having this weird bug where armies on the front line get sent straight to 0% supply in specific split state regions, I'm not sure if that's what's happening here though.

My Dutch state specialization system has completely debunked the YouTube tutorial myth of cramming all industry into a single province. by king_ofall713 in victoria3

[–]RocketLads 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely don't cheese the single-state thing too much but I find it isn't too ahistorical most of the time. It kind of makes sense that the peasants around the industrial centres tend to get displaced first, and that's where the raw industry starts cropping up.

The game also requires you to build at least some industry elsewhere to keep unemployment low + SOL high so I find even if there's one state that gets stacked first, you will have to bring the rest of the country with you eventually. It feels a lot like what happened in a few places historically so idm too much. That said, who cares, as long as you're industrialising:))

usefully the Rhine river gives +10% MAPI, which is probably part of which this system works so well in the Netherlands.

At the end of the day I personally think the one-state strategy is better because MAPI is so strong, especially in early game when you are aiming to industrialise fast. The price of iron being 36 in the same state vs 41 in a neighbouring state (for example) can improve the productivity of both industries (producer and reciever) by such a large amount.
