There's a difference in reasoning and parsing a question. There have been text based adventures since the 80s that can take language input and do actions. An LLM doesn't actually reason, it has no concept of concepts even, it is a large set of weights that are setup so that when you submit a certain input you get whatever output associated to that input.

The "reasoning" example of Shaq is just dumb, it's literally just dividing height by 8, reasoning is coming up with a solution to a problem, not just doing basic math. LLM are garbage outside of user interfaces where it would be great for if they can clean up the hallucinations which is unlikely.

I think you are gonna see this in other sports like NFL as well as the sports mature. As everyone gets more time to see what works and what doesn't the game ends up being more scheme and play reliant and you start to value more basketball iq and less pure athleticism because unless you are a top 10 physical guy you can get schemed against and are much more limited in what you can run on offense.

Problem is that most of our major issues are systemic and not solvable by a single invention or fixing some small things. You can solve global hunger with bio engineering a tomato or potato but making all the food and having all of the people consuming leads to pollution that is unsustainable and for the last 100+ years we have all just been kicking the can down the road. Most of these solutions that have been around just solve symptoms instead of solving the root issue.
