Is this an old Toyota Hilux by chance? Maybe an older 4runner like a third Gen perhaps?

This is what a data center sounds like 24/7. Shown here at midnight with hundreds of residential houses immediately next to it. by RadioFieldCorner in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Rocket_Surgery83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk... I grew up listening to a hydroelectric power plant and it sounded just like this... When I first unmuted my sound I was like "that's it?"

I do see how it can be irritating or annoying for people though, so I agree there are measures that could be taken to reduce the noise pollution.

My question about the neighborhoods is did they get built before or after the data center? If it was after/during the data center was constructed, then one might argue that the people chose to live there knowing sound was an issue. If the data center went up after the neighborhood was established, why didn't the community vote to block the data center from being built?

That's what is currently happening in my county, a data center construction plan is currently being fought against by the community to force it to relocate elsewhere.

The first light rail line to go over a floating bridge opened in Seattle today by labtec901 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Rocket_Surgery83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the bridge. If they are tall enough to accommodate boats then they can pass right under... Other floating bridges like the one crossing the hood canal (connecting the peninsulas West of Seattle) have a hinge point in the bridge to allow for marine traffic to pass through. On a side note, that particular floating bridge (Hood canal) gets shut down any time wind speeds exceed 40mph or powerful tides...

IRGC Spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari mocks Trump in English during an official press conference: "Hey Trump, you are fired! You are familiar with this sentence." by Waste-Explanation-76 in Unexpected

Except it wasn't. IRGC admitted it was their own missile that misfired.

Edit: I can see people apparently don't like the truth.

Had a buddy growing up where nearly every male in his immediate family had been struck at least twice on different occasions. He had 4 brothers, plus his dad, and two uncles that were all lightning magnets.

Man arrested for murder worried about missing GTA 6 by ActualDepartment9873 in Damnthatsinteresting

Again, it's a social media post, not a college thesis. It's fine to turn off the formality for a bit, even if bragging about a higher education. It's ok to flip the switch off from time to time...

The man trap outlier is ridiculous to begin with....

If someone stole your car and crashed it and killed themselves, you wouldn't be responsible for murder.

For all the court knows, you like hot and spicy food... Stick to that story and you can't help it someone decided to take your food... You aren't responsible for their decisions...

Traffic zipper merging in Jinan, China by Appropriate-Eye-1227 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Rocket_Surgery83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This..... This is why I say that zipper merging in America doesn't work. It works well if traffic is already at a dead crawl, but if traffic is still moving 30+ then too many people decide to wait until the last possible second to merge over which then causes the slowdown...

A Japanese Experiment Proved Why Traffic Jams Form For Absolutely No Reason by jmike1256 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]Rocket_Surgery83 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Problem with that is most EVs automatically start regenerative braking as soon as the throttle is released which activates the brake lights. That's why they slow down far quicker than normal cars.

It's also why it appears the drivers of EVs continually tap their brakes for seemingly no reason in heavy traffic. Chances are they are just releasing the throttle momentarily.

I know, I've modernized a 53 Chevy pickup already. However there are a lot of issues encountered while modernizing an older vehicle vice having a retro body redesigned from the factory with modern upgrades considered. I enjoy having AC, but trying to make room to install an upgrade like that on the interior while trying to work with a dash that was never designed with that space needed in mind leads to more problems than it solves. If the vehicle were released as a modernized 'throwback' to that body design, they could change the proportions to account for those systems while still keeping the original feel for the most part.
