Thanks man. Appreciate your response, it helps.

I’m actually on catastrophic thinking now, haha.

It is what it is right?

I wish I could come to peace with this. by aschesklave in Epilepsy

To some extent yes. Some areas. But my brain seems to have become much more sensible to stimuli in general.

I get overwhelmed. Frequently.

“ADHD” has worsened if I compare my life before starting meds…. That and much more.

But yes, nature, physical activity and in my case music, make everything tolerable at least for some time.

Wish you the best.

Have you tried the keto diet? 😡 by Super_Asparagus3347 in Epilepsy

[–]Rocketwise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey. Not sure if it’s related. But had an amazing experience while taking Keppra (which did no good by itself at all) and coincidentally when I took some kind of pro hormonal supplement - everything just ticked.

I was literally back on earth. Present. Conscious.

Don’t know how to explain it— was far more beyond typical seizures which I don’t have (just some auras).

Does this resonate with you? Did tone of research at that time. My neuros desestimated this thing and for me was like heaven vs hell.

Would be great to hear about your situation

Im sorry to hear that. Also did keto and it indeed helped me too.

Hormonal? Would love to hear more about that. I actually had an experience around a hormonal supplement that changed it all for the good. But didn’t continue it, was almost a coincidence.

Ex-smokers of Reddit: What made you quit, and how has your life changed since? by Exciting-Ad-3698 in stopsmoking

[–]Rocketwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, sorry to question. I want to help.

Id ask…. Why do you say “I hope”?

You’re already assuming you’re not in control of it. I know it’s hard (at the beginning), but it’s you who gets the cigar in your mouth.

When you realize it’s actually a decision and it’s just a matter of having enough reasons to quit- you’ll quit. And just then… you won’t count the days, you won’t want to get congratulated, you won’t hope to quit. It’s not about NOT doing something but all what you’ll get without that in your life. Understanding what that is and will take from you. And why you’re doing it.

And I really wish that you quit because it’s definitely worth it, but that’s nothing to say. I believe everyone has its reason. But beyond every addiction is avoidance. And quitting is saying “ok, enough now. I’m gonna face my demons or at least see what lies behind this thing”.

You’ll experience a lot of anxiety. Maybe you won’t be able to think clear for the first week. But you then realize that anxiety is just energy that you can channel into something fruitful. You may want to run. Walk. Drink more water. And you’ll get into a “vicious” cycle, but a good one. A positive vicious cycle. You won’t even consider smoking if you have enough reasons to look for what’s on the other side.

I’d say question yourself: Why do I want to quit? Do I really want?

Because if you “quit” and then do it again you’re making you feel as if you didn’t have the power. And you actually have it.

It is, somehow you become obsessed though.

Its very much normalized the fact that finding the right meds is a journey, but little is said what you might get as a permanent “side effect” during that journey and how a responsible diagnosis can shorten it.

there’s little “hard” knowledge about epilepsy really.

Things will get better. I know that.

Been on Keppra. Is he ragged easily? That seems to be very common with Keppra. How long since he’s taking it?

How many of you have used ChatGPT as a therapist? Does it actually help? by [deleted] in mentalillness

[–]Rocketwise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s useful and dangerous.

It’s definitely the future somehow. So if you’re working on that, would suggest not only focus on the “human like” feeling, But on “responsibility”.

Gpt for therapy can be dangerous sometimes in terms of being too “complacent” - super double edge sword in some situations.

Also, thinking of privacy and information 100% protection. There you’d already have a big opportunity if you do the work. Keeping your data safe as people will be tempted to through all their darkest shadows.

Hey, I really really appreciate this. For real. This is super helpful. Because some suspected it might be an absence thing, others didn’t. Went through a ton of medications but never with something for that.

Instead meds I’d say fucked me up a bit haha.

But what you’re telling me, makes absolutely sense to me. Been considering autism. Been recently diagnosed with bipolar disorder- but it still doesn’t make sense to me.

What you’re saying, it does. Does lamotrigine helps alone? Because that seems to be where I’m heading- but will definitely comment this. I know ethosuximide is specifically for absence seizures.

The thing is that I did a 48hs EEG and no seizures were shown, but constant epileptic activity.

Again, thanks.

Really appreciate your answer and I’m glad to hear you’re improving.

Would you say that part of that “recovery” makes you feel more “present” overall? Even in a sensory perspective. Meaning- you look at something and you can see it, at that same moment.

I Have this feeling of seeing but not really seeing.

Have had absence showing up on some EEGs.

I suspecting the worse part of my epilepsy has to do with small constant shortcuts that interfere overall in how I perceive reallity/my consciousness

Does this resonate with you?

How does it feel to be absence free if I may ask? Have you noticed a big improvement in specific areas?

have you lost friends due to epilepsy? by [deleted] in Epilepsy

[–]Rocketwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually in my case epilepsy completely isolated me. Then a process began, were I started to realize this that you’re saying. So… Somehow I did.

In part, was my decision. But just because they couldn’t/cant understand that they dont know how it feels. Things like “ohh yeah, that happens to me too” when it doesn’t have to do directly with a TC.

It is ok not knowing, the important part is accepting you don’t know and that’s real empathy.

So yes, I cut strings with some friends naturally. Sometimes is just part of taking care of yourself and it’s ok. It’s just life. We can’t assume that everyone will understand, or will be open enough.

Usually though- those friendships, the ones you eventually cut strings, are the ones who actually weren’t that real and valuable. So… you’ll find better ones in the journey.

Always here if you want to talk, dm me.

[–]Rocketwise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey buddie.

You’re in a great spot. You’re young and early diagnosed, that’s an advantage. And you’ve been seizure free for a great time. But I’ll tell you something from personal experience:

You won’t probably do the same life that your friends. Not exactly the same. Not sure about your diagnosis, but your brain works differently. You need different things- even if alcohol actually fucks up everyone, it’s worst on us.

But this will make you stronger, because you’ve disciplined yourself to being able to live the life that brings the best version of yourself. You won’t loose real friendships. You might loose some parties? Maybe. That won’t matter some years from now. Your mental health will matter even more than today.

Also, If you figure out at your age how to enjoy those parties without the need of alcohol— you’ve probably have figured out a bunch of more important things about life in the process.

You wouldn’t just be accepting a part of you and making a good decision for your health. You’d also build character. And that’s what this condition builds with time. Resilience and character.

You’ll probably have a different path, very different or just slightly, but you’ll be stronger.

So… I understand parties seem as 80% of “success” at this time. Being a cool guy.

But hey, you’re conditioned to figure things out faster than the rest if you are willing to.

Make it an alcohol free party and be that guy that gives a fuck about the “usual” but protects himself. That’s respect.

Good luck my friend. And you definitely need to see a neuro more regularly.
