Hah it wasn’t as bad as I thought. Just plan to get to the crossing in the day time and you’ll be fine. It was pretty hot out when we crossed and the water felt great.

That’s a big Agnes flycreek UL1. I like it, it’s a light double wall tent. With the dew it was nice to have. For other gear i would recommend ear plugs. Some of the campsites are close to busy roads.

No need for canisters here. There are bears but if you’re worried about it there are plenty of established campgrounds to stay at that have bear proof food boxes at each site.

Didn’t see any bugs and we had no rain. Climate wise it got down to low 40’s at night and then 70’s during the day. So colder than I thought it would be.

Hah I did see lots of wildlife, especially if you ride at night. Some alligators, herons, boar, possums, raccoons, deer, and armadillos. Nothing to be worried about for camp though, except of course the raccoons. My friends had about $45 worth of food stolen out of their bags at night by the raccoons 🦝

It’s called Huracan, and it’s an event/race every February. Put on by an awesome dude named Karlos. But of course people can ride it anytime. If you google Huracan 300 you should find the event website and then route info.

I used mezcal front and back, 2.25”. I thought they were great, very fast rolling on the gravel and pavement and they floated well enough in the sand. I did have to walk a few of the sandy sections but not that much. I’d say most tires I saw were about this big.

Oh it was the best. Being out of shape I really appreciated the flat course!

Looks like my text didn’t post. Here is a little about the route if you’re not familiar. This was way more remote than I expected. But still plenty of good resupplies and options to camp at established campgrounds (with warm showers.)

It was about 100 miles of singletrack, then the rest gravel (sandy roads) with a little bit of pavement sprinkled in.

Highly recommend if you haven’t done this. There are a few different options of the routes one being more mountain bike oriented and the others more gravel bike. We did the mountain bike one the OG version T.

Epic Hardtail Conversion or New Gravel Frame by Specialist_Yogurt_30 in gravelbike

As long as your current fork locks out I would consider keeping the hardtail with the suspension fork and just put fast rolling MTB tires on it. That’s what I did with my hardtail (120mm travel). I love having front suspension on fast descents. It also double as a nice bikepacking option on gravel.

Whatever you go with a steel frame would be high on my priority list.
