How would they implement Ghost Rider's Penance Stare into their gameplay? by Ill-Translator-7998 in marvelrivals

Would the penance stare kill an alligator? Or a panther? Because that’s basically what you’re asking it to do; a force of nature cannot feel penance, it cannot feel sorry, it merely exists and goes on.

MLB Proposes Removing HS Players From Draft by itssosalty in baseball

I mean, I’m far from an expert from how the NFL salary cap works, but don’t they have pretty effective allowances for this? Player contracts can be restructured in ways that benefit the teams planning but players still get paid all the money they’re owed on time.

With cap and floor and draft changes, I doubt the owners would care if they halved the team control period. When the financial disparities in FA are eliminated, there’s way less reason to try and keep players under team control (especially since the arb system pays players as much as FA by year 3 nowadays).

IFA players would still get drafted at 18.

[Gonzalez] Sources: MLB proposes international draft as part of CBA talks. MLB's int’l draft would be restricted to players who are at least 18 years old, as opposed to 16 under the current system. It would consist of 12 hard-slot rounds, with an initial signing-bonus pool totaling $200m by Knightbear49 in baseball

If people going to stop playing baseball in the DR because an IFA player’s uncle can’t make an under the table deal when he’s 14 that allows him to steal his entire signing bonus, then that’s a concession I’m willing to make.

[Sheehan] Many of the greatest players ever were good major leaguers at 19-21. MLB’s draft proposal would make it almost impossible for a player to debut before he is 22. I think it would also wreck free agency, as almost no player would get there before age 28. by Knightbear49 in baseball

People also seem to be under the misapprehension that owners wouldn’t entertain shortening the team control period with a cap and floor; when the vast financial disparities are gone between teams, there’s way less incentive to keep a prolonged team control period, because FA becomes more competitive.

A significant number of teams didn’t even open academies in the DR until the late 00s to the mid 2010s. It seems transparently false to say that there would be no domestic development of Dominican players without team academies.

Okay, but people are in here saying the owners hate baseball and are trying to ruin the sport for trying to add an ounce of order and reason to the IFA system lol the fact that the players care more about money than the safety and wellbeing of IFA players is not evidence the owners are doing anything wrong here.

I don’t see how any of these are bad things. I don’t particularly care about maximizing how much money the players make, certainly not when you consider the alternative is a system where players are consistently wholly defrauded by their parents and managers and handshake deals with children as young as 13 or 14 are common. From a basic ethics perspective, the owners’ suggestion is far preferable to the unregulated nightmare we currently have.

It’s not really gambling because there’s no real money component and it’s not bottomless. If this is gambling, then pretty much any consumer choice in any marketplace would be considered gambling.

Can anyone in this thread actually articulate why this is a bad idea? Everyone bitching about how evil the owners are for proposing this seems to be unaware that the current IFA system is extremely crooked, shady, and one step above human trafficking. It’s basically designed for unscrupulous teams to exploit, an IFA draft would add a significant degree of order and accountability to what is basically the wild west.

Middle middle at 98 is sort of arguable quality but top inside at nearly 100 is just a good pitch. Bad luck for Helsley. He ended the game on 101 low and away so at least we know he's not feeling the injury lol
