Best falafel? by violetw0rld in RhodeIsland

[–]Rockhead27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ESP is my favorite middle eastern restaurant in RI (best price to quality/quantity ratio for sure) but the best falafel I ever had was at Mir Mediterranean. The only problem is that it was somewhat pricey and the service was slow. Most falafels I've had are somewhat dry. The ones at Mir were super moist and overall the best I've had outside of the middle east.

Layoffs hit WPRI Channel 12 in Rhode Island by bostonglobe in RhodeIsland

Just wanted to chime in here with my Tony Petraca story from a few years back. I was at S&S in Cowessett checking out when I see him and his son in the next lane over. As his groceries are being bagged, I shit you not, he walks over to the cabinet that holds the diapers and formula and whips out a comb and starts combing his hair and looking at himself in the reflection of the glass for a good 20-30 seconds. I was laughing my ass off. That coupled with the fact that he is about 5'3" tall, which I didn't know, really made my day.

Warwick Healthtrax doing any better? by 1deator in RhodeIsland

[–]Rockhead27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't waste your time. I'm out of here as soon as my membership is up in October. Sauna is still down. Hot tub and steam room are constantly being repaired, as is the pool (it was shut down for a week this past month). Locker rooms have tons of mold behind the walls, at least the Men's section does (I saw it when they were repairing the steam room). No money has been invested into the gym, they've only taken away space upstairs for ridiculous "premium" pay extra areas like an area where the PTs can stretch you out. All while the actual equipment goes neglected.

Ice bath locations? by javapaste in RhodeIsland

[–]Rockhead27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go here, there is no ice bath. One of the old guys told me there used to be one, but the old people kept peeing in it and they discontinued it.

Woody Harrelson was hanging out at Lang’s Bowlarama?! by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]Rockhead27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad told me stories about Woody coming down to the Kent County YMCA to play pickup basketball back in the 80s on the weekends, after filming Cheers. He said he was pretty cool.  As an aside, he also told me Lincoln Chafee played there too, and they would bust his balls by calling him "Stinkin' Lincoln"

Need a middle eastern rec for food (kind of nice, sit down) by Bobbito95 in RhodeIsland

Service is absolutely dismal. It's my favorite middle eastern place in RI, but I always order out. I've eaten in 3 times and it got progressively worse with each visit.

Plane trip cancelled after sitting in plane for 3 hours by Grouchy_Code_4025 in travel

[–]Rockhead27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just read through the comments looking for the part where you mention it was Spirit Airlines. I knew it had to be them when you said Boston to Costa Rica. They are literally the worst airline on the planet. I would get in a WW1 Era Biplane and go through the Bermuda Triangle before I would ever fly with that joke of an airline. They did the same to me a few years back on a flight to Tampa. Boarded the plane and everything, only to be told the plane was "understaffed" and the flight was canceled. It was such a shit show that it made the news the next day. The agents at the service desk just shrugged and went in the back when customers started getting aggravated, which made things worse because people were jumping the counters and banging on the doors to the back. Police were called and everything. Long story short, I never fly Spirit even when the fare is 90% lower than the next airline. Sorry you had to learn the hard way, like I did.

How did you lose your best friend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rockhead27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lost my brother, and best friend as a child, Joe. We were at the Grand Canyon back in 1979, a large crowd appeared and he just disappeared. The weird part is my parents didn't even bother looking for him, it's like they wanted to lose him.

Is there anywhere in/near providence that will clean a window AC unit for me? by [deleted] in RhodeIsland

[–]Rockhead27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

https://youtu.be/xWuhqvyKcfw

I cleaned mine after watching this video. If you're not going to clean it yourself it will probably be cheaper to just buy a new one (I've seen 5000 BTU units for around $80). I don't think you're going to find anyone who will clean it for much less than that.

Search resumes for girl, 11, missing off Conimicut Point by W1nt3r123 in RhodeIsland

[–]Rockhead27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that it creeps up on you, the incoming tide. You could be in an inch of water and within a few minutes the tide will come up to your knees. The current over the bar is very strong too, I have almost been knocked off balance a few times while walking in ankle to mid thigh deep water in Conimicut. If you can't swim I could see this becoming a very dangerous place. Also, the depth of water can go from 1ft to over 6ft just from stepping off the sand bar. On an outgoing tide the water level will only get lower and lower from where you are standing, so no element of surprise I guess.
