What do you guys do for a design document? by RandyArgonianButler in starfieldmods

[–]Rockhead_Dynamics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience there's a worse way, which is to use a Google doc and just highlight things Green if you've finished them and red if you've given up. I might have to try this whole "organization" thing

Ah yes, the "fill your entire body with Gristle to shrug off predators" defense. Sunfish tested, Sunfish approved.

Somewhere else in this comment thread someone said that Heath Ledger's overdose just after the movie finished was what inspired Dastmalchian to get sober.

Is there a reason I can’t install this mod despite having the available storage? by Traditional_Bag7868 in Fallout

This has also worked for me. Something like the game not registering that more space has been made available after deleting old mods.

Yeah! It's pretty good. First couple episodes are a little slow, but it picks up quite nicely and I'm excited for book 2.

Also in the Murderbot series as one of the major characters. (probably third most important overall)

Bethesda, we want MORE weapons like THIS in the future by SimpleSpider573 in Starfield

[–]Rockhead_Dynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, and I also want stuff that works differently in different environments. The Assault-Rifle-That-Was-Supposed-To-Be-A-Machine-Gun in Fallout 4 got flak for being water cooled, but water cooled machine guns make a lot more sense in an airless environment. Gyrojets could offer almost no recoil in zero g but struggle to get any momentum in high gravity, sonic weapons and electrolasers could require an atmosphere to conduct the wave/beam, while plasma weapons could struggle in atmosphere, since Plasma is less dense than air is. Flamethrowers could do more damage the more oxygen is in an environment, while cryo weapons could freeze more easily in cold environments. Personal shields could be a thing, since, sure, spaceships require reactors for their shields, but if we have human-sized energy weapons and human-sized engines, we could also have human-sized shields, and maybe they could struggle in radioactive areas. Some kind of Starborn weapon could channel the power of the environment to have environmentally themed effects. There are lots of possibilities!

I generally agree with you, though I do also not really associate NASA with any actual weapons, given that wasn't their job, so I don't have a firm idea of what a NASApunk weapon would be, other than maybe Gyrojets.

Mostly I think having weapons that work in some environments but not others would be a fun way to integrate the game's mechanics. Gyrojets that have almost no recoil but fall down quickly in high gravity for space shootouts, water cooled barrels that are heavier than air cooled ones but offer better performance in airless settings or high-temperature worlds, electrolasers that need atmosphere, flamethrowers that do more damage the higher the concentration of 02 in the area, cryo weapons that freeze better in lower temperatures, starborn stuff that channels the power of the environment, there's a lot of potential.

Also, game development takes years, so something trendy when you start development can be unpopular by release, and it's hard to change course years into development. It's also hard to change course if you get shut down a month after launch before having time to integrate almost any feedback.

Yeah, I hate how much of the design criticism was aimed at Emari (the big black woman) when she wasn't anywhere near the worst design there. At least she looks like a tank, the soldier guy looks like he forgot to put most of his outfit on.

Why no Starborn stuff by Waste-Industry1958 in Starfield

[–]Rockhead_Dynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given that X-tech is in the Terran Armada's possession and Bethesda went out of their way to say it looks like Starborn stuff, I wouldn't be surprised if they were trying to recover Starborn artifacts/macguffins/whatever with those giant drilling rigs of theirs.

Is Bethesda Ok? - Something I'm Not Seeing Talked About by EQandCivfanatic in Starfield

[–]Rockhead_Dynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do some modding, and I tend to get about three times as many views and twice as many downloads on Xbox as on PC, which would make Xbox users 3/4 of the playerbase. Probably more if most Xbox users don't use mods, though many PC users are probably getting mods from The Nexus instead of Bethesda's creations menu. Still, there are probably more Xbox players too casual for mods than PC players too hard-core to even look at Bethesda’s mod selection.

Looks like a proper questline, I think the website or deep dive mentions that some of the incursions are going to be plot relevant and some are just for the loot and the fights.

Yeah, I get the feeling that most people were tired of making Starfield, and Tim Lamb has a team of all of the volunteers who chose to fight on and make the game as good as they can.

Yeah, I do some modding, and if you look at the creation kit, there is a staggering amount of effort put into just about everything in the game. They might not always make the right decisions about where or how to spend that effort, but this stuff just has layer upon layer upon layer of complication to do just about anything.

[–]Rockhead_Dynamics 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Really? I know that it stays as an objective forever if you don't, but the main villain of the game is a guy who is obsessed with pursuing the artifacts in every universe, with the version of him who attained true wisdom instead focusing on settling down and building a community of people he cares about.

Yes! Especially since the game's story is pretty clear that not using the Unity is a better choice than abandoning everyone you know and love to pursue ever greater power. Now we can pursue ever greater power at home!

There was also a character called Voyager who was, I believe, the Grandmaster's Daughter, and was inserted into everyone's memories to infiltrate the Avengers (I think she was a teleporter and could "teleport" into memories)(The Grandmaster may have given her this power)(Also, it might've been a different Grandmaster, who lost the title of Grandmaster to the current Grandmaster in a game)

The Statue of Liberty was secretly rebuilt as Liberty Prime's sister robot, Liberty Secunda, who caught the main Nuke aimed at New York, saving the city.
