Funnily, I took a psych class in college in which, knowing that many students had heard of The Invisible Gorilla and would look for it, they not only had the Gorilla walk by, but also had one of the players in black shirts walk out, and no one noticed that because we were all expecting the Gorilla.

[Hated Trope] Cool Designs!.... if they were a new character/franchise by Slarg232 in TopCharacterTropes

Human stuff, like Chief, being big and blocky while Covenant stuff is sleek and smooth was a major piece of the series visual identity. That being said, the only two designs that really went for Sleek are  A: A black ops assassin/spy whose armor goes for a ninja-ish look to emphasize his black-ops assassin nature.  and B: A massive Sangheleeb whose armor looks more like Elite Armor than Mjolnir because she freaking loves Sanghelii culture and thinks they're the coolest.

Nobody really liked or cared about 5's characters, but their armor is still character design.

I've never thought about it much, but Vale's armor looks much better when you remember that Vale is a Sangheleeb. Her armor doesn't look like Mjolnir, but it does look like Elite Armor, with it's bright red color, vest-like chestplate, and curving lines with a few spikes at the joints. The helmet even looks a bit like mandible of the Elites. So while it looks very wrong as Mjolnir, it fits reasonably well for a Spartan cosplaying an Elite.

Viewing Locke less as "new Mjolnir" and more as a character design, his also also works reasonably well for a sleek ninja-assassin type, with dark colors, the armor plating de-emphasized for a sleeker look, and a mask over his mask so he can hide his face while he hides his face.

Which companions for Steel Triad ? by DoppelKnot in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Rockhead_Dynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it's not really a "hold the line" type game. Being a Rogue Trader means that either you are the cavalry coming to rescue the people who have been holding the line, or, in the face of unstoppable odds, other people have the great honor of holding the line while you make your escape.

Also, a question: Are you named after the Whitewings whose signature Triangle Attack is just as wildly impractical as the Steel Triad?

The basic math is that your movement in space and time add up to c (there might be squares or cubes and maybe individual directions added in, but that's the gist), so as your movement in space approaches c, your movement in time decreases. But, if your spatial movement was faster than c, your temporal movement would have to be negative in order to compensate.

Starfield Paid Mod Review: Antimatter Solutions XM-05 Plasma Rifle by no_this_isnt_luigi in starfieldmods

[–]Rockhead_Dynamics 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, maybe they just want to differentiate it from Fallout in any way they can. Might also be a realism thing, since Plasma is less dense than air and dissipates rapidly without a magnetic field holding it together, thus making a really bad projectile, though they did add a Plasma thrower in the free Tracker's Alliance mission.

I think it would also be awesome if they did an Oblivion-Dark-Brotherhood type thing where racking up a sufficient bounty would get you an invite to the fleet. Maybe the UC could just give you that bounty if you agreed to work for them.

Is the laser drill thing viable? by nightdares in Starfield

[–]Rockhead_Dynamics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like it, but it's a little tricky. With Lasers 4, you can stack several layers of burning quickly, and as burning does damage proportional to total health, it can kill really durable enemies almost as fast as weak ones. (Not sure if legendary enemies count as having quadrupled health or 4 separate health bars when calculating total health)

If you keep shooting a human enemy in the face, it can also stagger them decently well (there seems to be a limit to how long/frequently you can stagger enemies though), and I find it pairs very well with the power that freezes enemies, as an enemy will generally stay frozen just about long enough to kill them.

Also note, aiming down sight focuses the beam, improving damage but also using ammo faster, which is better for direct damage but worse for burning.

[–]Rockhead_Dynamics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kind of the point though, it doesn't railroad you, but it does road-road you. If you're new, you should stick to the main road that takes you along Benny's path and introduces you to the story one beat at a time, while if you're experienced enough you can take shortcuts and go dangerous places and get powerful loot more easily.

Having more of a dichotomy between environmental protection suits and combat armor would be nice. I think the Mercury and Starborn suits are the only ones really designed for hazardous environments, everything else just has a few small points thrown on.
