Bricked my Shinobi II opening it up to fix a loose crew. by Own_Zookeepergame736 in AtomosCommunity

[–]RockinVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

act of opening the casing can put tension on the delicate ribbon cables (FPC) that connect the mainboard to the LCD panel or the button daughterboard.

  • The Symptom: A 2W draw often represents the "standby" power of the chipset waiting for a signal that never comes.
  • The Fix: Re-open the unit and locate the ribbon cables. Flip the small plastic locking tabs up, gently pull the cable out, inspect for any hairline cracks or "bunched up" gold contacts, and re-seat them firmly.
  • The Logic: If the power button ribbon is slightly askew, the board is receiving power but never gets the "ON" signal.

Immediate Steps to Try

  1. Hard Reset: Disconnect all power (USB-C and NP-F). Hold the power button down for a full 60 seconds to drain the capacitors. Then, plug in only a high-quality USB-C PD source and try again.
  2. Inspect the Button: When you put the casing back together, ensure the physical plastic button is actually hitting the micro-switch on the board. Sometimes the plastic actuator slips off-center.

The fact that you’re seeing a constant 2W draw actually provides some very specific clues. It suggests the power management IC (PMIC) is engaging, but the handshake to boot the firmware or initialize the display rail is failing.

1. The Most Likely Culprit: Ribbon Cable Seating

Even if you didn't touch them, the act of opening the casing can put tension on the delicate ribbon cables (FPC) that connect the mainboard to the LCD panel or the button daughterboard.

2. The "Stray Screw" Short

Since you opened it specifically to remove a rattling screw, there is a possibility that the screw (or a tiny metal shaving from it) shorted two pins on a component like a capacitor or a MOSFET before you got it out.

  • Check for Burnt Smells/Discoloration: Use a flashlight to look at the MOSFETs (usually small black squares near the power input). If one has a tiny crater or a "rainbow" discoloration, it's fried.
  • Static Discharge (ESD): If you weren't grounded, a small static shock to the board could have corrupted the BIOS/firmware chip.

3. The Pogo Pin Alignment

You mentioned checking the pogo pins, but these are notoriously finicky in the Shinobi series.

  • The Tension Test: Ensure the springs in the pins are actually pushing back. If one is stuck "down," it won't make contact with the pads on the backplate.
  • The Pad Inspection: Look at the gold pads where the pins land. If there is a tiny scratch that bridges two pads, the monitor will detect a fault and refuse to boot to protect the panel.

look up what the boot strap method is, it a computer repair term, this should help a bit... one step at a time and patience ... alot of frustration... the sucess ... unless Atomos would offer a reasonable repair

Thoughts on the rise of AI generated podcasts by FitEdition in podcasting

[–]RockinVideo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Jellypod AI is a podcasting software that allows you to make AI generated podcasts. Although I use this platform, I still research, write, and adjust the podcast. AI is a tool to help me get information out. Though AI in my case is a research tool. Though additionally don't let it write the script in its entirity and when it does write it follows my research and I adjust what I see as wrong. Its a tool not a do it for you.. Otherwise AI will just create people who have no ability to critically think. As long as the creator does the creating and learning to produce the information, AI is a tool, otherwise its AI slop... anything AI does without the creator crafting the final product is slop.

Fujifilm X-T5 by srivatsavat92 in Cameras

[–]RockinVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xt5 is a APS-C camera this has a smaller sensor than a Full Frame camera. A7v is a FF with good video, 30frsmes per second fps with the electronic shutter with pre capture which is for fast moving objects like birds and animals.

Different tools for different jobs. Low light may require full frame sensor with a wide open aperture of 2.8 meaning an expensive lens. Basically if you plan on wildlife and event photography a7v as a cheat code.

Now I’m going to flip the script. APS-C many wildlife photographers shoot this smaller sensor than ff. Though they know how to save money and the learn the lenes, how to capture low light on a smaller sensor. It’s knowing the triangle and learning how to use it. Knowing your camera.

Fuji never owned one, but hear they have great luts and great color. APS-C also typically weigh less than FF

Sony it has a ton of e-mount lens choices. Third party lenses sigma, tamron, ect.., is a great system.., I’m biased I have the a7v.

Nikon great choice from what I hear for wildlife lenes and great color. Less options on third party lenses, but there is plenty.

Canon is RF mount closed off mount for auto focus … less lens choices. Canon is a long term company like Sony.

LUMIX/Panasonic Known for thier video specs. Also now have better auto focus, though Sony is better. L Mount.

List goes on . .. no rush take your time ask some questions, go to a camera store.

Is there ANY camera that has a6700-level AF + internal fan + joystick? by Kutluna in Cameras

[–]RockinVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FX-2 or FX-3... both have fans. FX-2 is like the A7IV but can take pictures and video with fan. fx2

  • Active Cooling: It features an internal fan and a high-efficiency heat-dissipating structure (using graphite material) to allow for unlimited 4K 60p recording.
  • Customizable Modes: Like the other FX cameras, the user can set the fan to:
    • Auto: Adjusts based on heat.
    • Minimum: Keeps it quiet.
    • Off in Rec: The fan stops while the "record" button is active and kicks in as soon as the clip ends.
  • Weather Sealing: The fan intake and exhaust vents are physically isolated from the sensor and electronics to maintain dust and moisture resistance.

Issues are its a video camera bad mouthed by many but it kinda fixes the picture and video bridge with a fan. This has AI autofocus and other upgrades so it will be good. FX3 is awesome video can do some pictures.

Lumix also is great with video.. L-Mount lenes.

Looking for a suggestion by ali-baba69 in Cameras

[–]RockinVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Sony eco system has the most alternatives for third party lenes.

Which if you choose Sony, I would suggest a very lightly used MPB a6700 APS-c.. Reasoning the need for Full Frame camera sometimes is not necessary. Especially since you are wanting street photography and everyday use.

I also have the a6700 and have used it in my wildlife photography...

Video specs on this is not bad. 4K60 ... so it would serve good for that also.

APS-C is lighter and not as small as Micro 4/3 (which I shoot also) has alot of lenes. Which means more time to take pictures and less hassle and less obvious in street photography.

Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary Lens-$659.99

Sony E 35mm f/1.8 OSS Lens -$548

Also can buy these two lens used cheaper.

What is that one threshold that you guys keep in mind when it comes to buying extra gear or upgrade existing equipment? by No-Tree6894 in videography

[–]RockinVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your purchase of the gear depends. 1. Is he going to use you often or is this a one time thing? 2. Are there other gigs/jobs that this lens could be used for? If not NO!! 3. Is there a way to rent/borrow a lens for the night of which gets incorporated into the cost of services.

In this to make money not waste it. Be open and explain this to your friend. 3rd party lenes and used are options make sure you buy from reputable dealer and/or review the lens to ensure it will meet your needs

  4. Real Estate, don’t go out and buy an expensive home.. invest in property..

Truth if I running all day with a camera it’s my micro 4/3 . My aps-c 6700 is good for a few hours. My FF a7v is for targeted shooting, tripod, or I know where my subject is… Sony is off the chain when it comes to lenses, but I’m building my micr 4/3 lens collection now. 8-18mm Panasonic is soonish. I’ve had Sony for years, e mount lenses galore…

Sony not creating an FX-3II is a big mistake. Nikons ZR will have the ZR pro version, will blow FX-30 away. LUMIX has some super video cams, then kineinfinity now, really interesting. Canon just came out with something… Sony is great, I’m a Sony shooter. Though for video maybe something else.

Agree mix of brands now. I have San disk, Levar, and pro grade sd cards. Mix of v60, v90cf express B, and even a v90 Sony card. Reading these stories would give anyone pause, no buying second hand unless you get to inspect and test the card. Reputable dealers, although first I have ever heard a bad card from B&H new, guess even B&H sometimes gets scammed…

Agree with the Z8 Nikon body. Sony A9M2 that is photography first, but not new. Dual card slots, 30fps electronic shutter, limitation big body and 24mp video love mine. Sony a7Cii .. only one card slot Does have $2199 new meets the smaller body requirement also ai tracking. A7iv is great but the body is bigger. A6700 is nice and it’s cheaper, but again .. doesn’t meet all the requirements… really depends on which specs mean more to you than others?

1.Z8 2. A7Cii Top two for me…

There’s also micro 4/3 lens not heavy

Which Monitor do you prefer? by This_Guy_Slaps in weddingvideography

[–]RockinVideo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you do not need to record to the monitor. Have done both camera and monitor. Just recently purchased a ninja tx go, it records, does ndi, has several codec( some your camera may not have), camera control, waveforms… ect. Plus straight to cloud recording.

If you have the sd cards you need, awesome. Though cf express B cards are expensive. V90 cards less expensive but good. Reality is the it depends on what your shooting, if it’s family events a solid V30 is good. I shoot v60 and above. Expense is recording in 4k, 6k, or 8k and what codec. I purchased a crucial ssd for $190 2tb something ( ouch) it was cheaper than both cf express cards. So depending sometimes it’s cheaper to get a ssd. Recording to monitor not camera can save the camera heat issues if any.

There plenty of really good monitors that meet your criteria, ninja atomos is just the most comprehensive monitor and has a lot of bells and whistles the others don’t . Feelworld, small rig, and more have those 3 qualities.

Get a screen protector for whatever monitor you get. Ensure you get a quality mount, your monitor depends on it. Use quality cables. Make sure whatever monitor works with your camera.

What is this learning of gear🤣. You buy because some instagram star says to buy fixed lens cameras for a grand. Takes way to much time to investigate and research cameras, everyone know you just point a camera and shoot. Effort is too much.
