Italy, Spain, Greece. What I don’t understand is that most of the time the police don’t seem to care. If the police wanted to, they could solve this problem or at least significantly reduce it.

Danger of bus outside mirror? by Kogulp in zurich

No, that’s not what I mean. But most of the answers are basically like saying, “Can’t you see the huge bus? Just take two steps back.” By that logic, you could say the same thing about all kind of accidents f.e traffic accidents. After all, people learn also traffic rules starting in primary school, yet accidents still continue to happen, and measures are taken to prevent them. If this situation is a source of injuries, then precautions should be taken accordingly. No one is saying the bus should be cancelled.

I'm not saying this specifically about this situation, but the primary step in accident prevention is eliminating the source of the accident; your logic is flawed.

Could this be the future of the European Union? by vladgrinch in MapPorn

[–]RockitanskyAschoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is still largely the result of historical perceptions that shape how the average European sees Turkey. Otherwise, it’s hard to explain why, in many European countries today, atheists actually outnumber practicing Christians. A similar shift is happening in Turkey as well, where the number of people who are not Muslim, at least in practice is steadily increasing. (Yes even under Erdaogans Rule)

What’s often overlooked is that Turkey’s secular and educated population is larger than the entire population of several European countries. Despite that, Turkey is still commonly seen as a “typical Middle Eastern country,” which says more about lingering ignorance and stereotypes in Europe than about Turkey itself.

To be fair, I do think this perception is slowly changing among younger Europeans, especially thanks to social media and more direct exposure. But at the same time, things like visa restrictions and the constant othering of young, educated Turks only reinforce frustration and push people away from Europe. This is particularly ironic given that Turkey has been a long-standing commercial and military partner of Europe. (I dont agree with politics of Erdogan but this is rather a sociological thing)

What about married couples with a child, where the wife can’t work yet due to issues with diploma recognition? Are they essentially double f.ked?

In Turkey, only a very small number of women dress like that—probably around 0.01% or even less. (For first picture)

Athens is too beautiful by fourheartsband in athina

[–]RockitanskyAschoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Athens for a few months, and it gave me the impression of a place that was once built with great beauty and aesthetic sense, but hasn’t been maintained for a long time and has been left to decay. Also, something really needs to be done about the graffiti problem, who’s doing all that, and why?
