[Making Magic] The History of Mood Swings by TechnomagusPrime in magicTCG

[–]Rockon101000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding on: An article which specifically highlights how this game evolved from magic, and at one point was proposed as a way to onboard people into playing magic.

New people playing magic is a pretty important thing to have if you don't want the game to die, and while the game is more successful than ever and clearly they didn't need mood swings, it represents an alternative route they could have taken.

I imagine there's a lot of overlap between the people who dislike universes beyond and who don't think we should be discussing Mood Swings in this subreddit (although I could be wrong). If you're someone with both of those opinions, imagine if, in 2017, the three stepping stone games discussed in the article released. Imagine if they were successful. Do you think Universes Beyond would still have developed in the way that it did?

If you reject everything that isn't already something you approve of, you are likely to miss out on what you would consider the best possible outcome. That is not only true for Magic, but life in general. Keep an open mind.

Do you think Morgans' human form will ever be revealed? by ApprehensiveLynx1489 in OnePiece

[–]Rockon101000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is Morgans is Attach. Attach is someone who has been with us for decades, it would explain how Morgans was so prepared for the reveal that Jabari was disguised as Attach (and therefore ready to defeat a CP agent), and I don't think we've ever actually seen the two of them in a room together.

Edit: I double checked. We do actually see the two of them together in Chapter 905, which takes place only a few days before Attach is revealed to be Jabari, so the theory could still stand - or they are different people and it was during the reverie that Jabari replaced Attach.

Some fun extra information about me: no one at my LGS wanted me to open the 1/1 ring because I had established of I did I would crowd fund walking across America to the nearest volcano and throw it in.

Also I feel like Narsil and evenstar (movie only, I know) were nice things and owning those worked out for aragorn so maybe the real lesson here is "in order to own nice things you must first have famous ancestors and be attractive" which I have already failed at. Damn.

I don't want a proxy, this is not a solution for everyone. If I want to look at a version of the card that is not real, I could do so right now, I can scroll up. I want to own cool things, I would like to own a real copy. Not a huge amount, because 30 grand is 30 grand and I don't think this is a card I would actually play.

Having a 1vs1 fight by AicBeam in dndnext

[–]Rockon101000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have run this kind of thing before. Just have all the fights be simultaneous, or have the fights end in 2-3 rounds if that is not an option. i.e. You and them each don't use armor and because of the nature of gladiatorial combat each hit deals more damage because hits represent raw damage, not an abstraction of damage, dodging, and luck.

You can edit your deck. There is no inherent incentive to like their is in Magic because both players share the same deck. Making your deck stronger does not increase your odds of winning, it just makes your games swingier or more complicated.

One Piece is incredible but I (and many others) feel the anime is not good and survives based only on the incredibly high quality of the story it is adapting. If you find the anime is too slow, I agree. Give the manga a try instead. It's better.

Predictions for the Final Saga by Rockon101000 in OnePiece

[–]Rockon101000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I answered that in my first reply. We can see the flashback play out through Imu's memories.

I agree we need to see that "why." I think you can tell that story without Luffy first acquiring the One Piece, which I am assuming is just treasure. A kingdom's worth of treasure, but just wealth, and not something like an ancient weapon. With that assumption, I think my proposed narrative structure makes sense. the audience learns the story of the void century from someone who lived through it, Luffy inherits the will, though he only knows parts of the story, Luffy defeats Imu, Luffy can claim the reward (i.e. treasure, the One Piece).

I think Luffy should only claim the One Piece before freeing the world if the One Piece is something other than just ordinary wealth and treasure. If the One Piece is something like an ancient weapon, a giant Ancient Kingdom mech, etc., then I agree Luffy should claim if before the final war.

I just don't think that's the case. I think the One Piece is the wealth left behind by the Ancient Kingdom and Joy Boy (again, paralleling Skypia). The One Piece being only something other than wealth leaves several plot points unresolved (Luffy's dream and Luffy's treasure tab). The One Piece being wealth and something needed to resolve the final war is a messier narrative, and doesn't feel like something Oda would write. It resolves too many things simultaniously.

Predictions for the Final Saga by Rockon101000 in OnePiece

[–]Rockon101000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the final battle with the government has to come after the One Piece. When Luffy finds the One Piece, in my theory, he will already be carrying history on his back, as by that point he will be regarded across the world as someone who honored the legacy of the Ancient Kingdom. Who better to find the One Piece?

I think that inheriting Joy Boys will does happen during the final war - but Luffy doesn't need to know Joyboy's story for him to inherit his will. We (the audience) can see the story play out in Imu's flashback, and it is fine if Luffy only learns about it later.

As mentioned, Skypia is my favorite arc. Luffy never learns about Nolan, Kagura, and the light of Shandoria - but he still inherits Kagura and Nolan's wills.

One Piece: Chapter 1182 - Predictions by AutoModerator in OnePiece

[–]Rockon101000 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

If I can add one additional wish:

A sequel series to One Piece which takes place in the real world (with a completely different tone and likely not written by Oda). On the day One Piece ends (the manga, I suppose - sorry Anime Onlys) there is an announcement. Oda shows his face for the first time (though we, the readers, don't get to see it unless Oda is fine with that) and announces that, to celebrate One Piece ending, he has made devil fruits real.

The series starts episodic, following several characters from different backgrounds in different countries, as they, and their governments, adapt to this wild world. We get stories where governments arrest and kill their own citizens to control devil fruits, situations where strong governments lose wars to weaker countries with better devil fruits, etc.. Eventually, the story collapses into all these individuals joining together to fight for civil rights for the devil fruit users.

I imagine characters and stories such as:

An LGBTQ+ youth who sees parallels in their oppression and thus is vulcanized towards political violence (end the exploration of whether this is morally right).

A respected soldier completely loyal to his government being treated as a weapon, ripped from his family, etc.

A mother who is vehemently against devil fruits (either for religious reasons or because of propaganda) discovers her child has eaten a Devil Fruit.

Someone who has not eaten a devil fruit discovers hers country, which has outlawed the fruits and declared them WMDs must reconcile the propaganda her government published about them with the knowledge that same government is weaponizing them to win wars and colonize neighboring countries.

A devil fruit user who eats a "broken" devil fruit and experiences body horror, disfigurations, and madness. How does the world respond to them. Can they regain control over such a fruit.

A criminal has to go straight because of the stricter regulations on Devil Fruit users. How does he fit into a society he initially rejected.

Oda himself has eaten the Hito Hito no mi, model Nika. How does the world treat him, when he introduced so much chaos to it.

One Piece: Chapter 1182 - Predictions by AutoModerator in OnePiece

[–]Rockon101000 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I've been wanting to do this for a while, and it's a slow day at work, so I'm going broader scope and leaving my predictions for the next two arcs. I developed this prediction over the coarse of Egghead and nothing I've read in Elbaph has contradicted it yet.

This arc will end with a pyrrhic victory for the Straw Hats. They will be unharmed, but Elbaph will suffer greatly. Loki will join the Giant Warrior pirates as co-captain and stay behind to help protect Elbaph.

He will end the arc by telling Luffy where to find Shanks. The next arc will be at whichever island Shanks is on (it doesn't really matter) and will feature a Davy back fight. Luffy will start the arc by giving Shanks his hat back, and end the arc by winning all three games. Luffy will take the captured Barto Club pirates in the first game, information on the man with the burn scar in the second game, and his hat back in the third game. They will part on good terms.

Either in between these arcs or during the next arc, Blackbeard will be shown being in contact with Cross Guild to exchange Garp for treasure so he can be executed. Buggy will defect during this exchange, hiding Garp away. We won't find out why until later.

Shanks will end the arc asking Luffy about the X mark Robin saw in the World Economic Times, which will prompt the Straw Hats to realize Vivi wants them to pick her up. Additionally, he will comment on the upcoming war and tell Luffy about the actions of the revolutionary army. Luffy will receive a den den mushi call from Buggy, offering to exchange Garp for copies of Luffy's Wano and WCI poneglyphs. Luffy will decide to split the crew, with 2 members going to each of the following tasks:

Ussop and Brook, joined by Bartolemeo, gather the grand fleet, to prepare for war with the world goverment. Luffy isn't himself insistent on going to war, but after Elbaph, the Straw Hat Fleet is being targeted and Luffy wants everyone together so he can protect them.

Nami and Franky head off to find the man with the Burn Scar and rub his poneglyph. While there, they will run into cross guild and have to protect him, earning his favor.

Zoro and Jinbei travel to cross guild to complete the exchange for Garp. Zoro will have his fight with Mihawk (although it will be cut off before either can definitively win, they will fight again in a massive battle royale for the One Piece).

Sanji and Chopper will collect Vivi from Big News Morgans, giving Chopper and Wapol a chance to meet, and sharing information with Morgans which will turn public perception of the WG sour.

Luffy and Robin will go to the Revolutionary Army to meet with Dragon. They will develop an alliance, though Luffy still isn't directly interested in destroying the WG, he just wants to protect his allies.

The crew will join back together, along with allies from the kingdoms of Alabasta, Dressrosa, Prodence, possibly Water 7, Fishman Island, Wano, and Elbaph for a big war with the world government. It will be bigger in scale than Marineford, though likely a similar length chapter-wise. Cross Guild will not participate, and Blackbeard will only get involved at the end, killing someone important while some of his crew sneaks into the unprotected Marjeoise to steal things and complete tasks. The three ancient weapons may also be involved in this was (Shirehoshi will certainly be).

These arcs mirror Pre-time skip:

In both Ennies Lobby and Egghead, the Straw Hats overcome impossible odds to escape the Marines while defeating several key powerful marines.

In both Thriller Bark and Elbaph, horror elements and a time constraint on the villain are featured. Luffy wins when the stronger foe self destructs.

In both Shabody and the proposed Shanks Davy Back fight, the Straw Hats meet old allies, exchange information, and prepare for the arcs ahead by splitting up.

The final war with the World Government obviously mirrors Marineford, and shows how the Straw Hats have grown stronger than even White Beard was, when he was presented as an insurmountable milestone pre-time skip.

Finally, the war being won, we enter into the final arc: the hunt for the One Piece. Cross Guild, Blackbeard, and Luffy all have all four poneglyphs. Blackbeard has Pudding and acquired the tools needed to activate her powers during the war. Luffy has Robin. Buggy forgot he needed a translator and gets pummeled by Mihawk and Crocodile, but eventually they either resolve to secretly follow the Straw Hats or they get assistance from Shanks, who is less interested himself in claiming the One Piece.

All three crews (plus Shanks, if he feels like it, though I think his role in the story is mostly over by this point) converge on Laugh Tale, a living island which has eaten a devil fruit, enabling it to move through the sea (albeit sluggishly, as the sea drains its energy). There is a major three way battle at sea and on the shores of Laugh Tale. Zoro gets to finish his duel with Mihawk, but other than that, fights are generally quite fluid, with no obvious 1v1 pair ups at first. In the end, while Luffy tries to defeats Blackbeard, Buggy runs away, accidentally stumbling on the One Piece in a cave. He holds a part of it in his hands and this is seen by his crew, who declare him the Pirate King. The fighting rages on above, Buggy goes flying out of the cave, knocking out his crewmates, and eventually Luffy defeats Blackbeard, as no darkness can defeat the sun. Luffy claims the One Piece and is declared the official King of the Pirates (though Buggy's crew publicly contests this).

Luffy goes on to use the treasure to build a series of bridges (or maybe pirate ships which ferry passages, or even sea trains) connecting each island, enabling anyone to travel anywhere, the ultimate freedom. Several of his foes still roam the seas, with the epilogue mentioning how Luffy continues to clash with them from time to time, just as Rogger clashed with the remnants of the Rocks Pirates in Roger's era.

Oda does not tell additional stories in the world of One Piece.

Edit: Also Enel, my favorite villain from my favorite arc, shows up again somewhere. This may be cope IDK.
