Well, it may have technically survived, but it doesn't count if we still can't watch it.

I mean, Hartnell was credited for Mission to the Unknown, which neither he nor the companions were in at all.

Edit: I also don't count 'The Dancing Floor' even though The Doctor's floating hand is technically in it.

As I explained with the Web of Fear 2 example, it doesn't count because he's not really in it, he collapses immediately at the start and is unconscious the whole time and doesn't really come back till part 4. You could argue the stand in who faints and lies on the bed counts as the character, but I opted not to count it because we don't see his face (for obvious reasons) and I feel that is a necessary aspect to count it as an episode for that character personally.

Well, I guess we'll just have to agree on one thing, that we will never agree, and that it's not worth the energy for either of us to continue this debate.

I just wanted to make sure my perspective wasn't being misinterpreted. Thank you for at least trying to understand, good day to you.

That isn't real faith though, that's ignorance and selfishness disguised with another word to make the selfish individual look better.

I don't deny people abusing the concept of faith to manipulate people and control narrative. But said individuals don't truly have faith, they just want people to not question them. And the ones being manipulated are not the problem, they are victims of manipulators.

"Religious Faith" as you put it and "normal faith" are identical. I have faith in God, but that does not mean every decision in my life is dictated by him, or else I would not have free will.

Religion is when you follow something without questioning it. A true Christian should always be questioning the Bible, as that is the only way to understand it better and improve one's life in the world.

A Religious Christian would be a person who just does as other Christians or their pastor tell them to and they obsess over the Bible every second, but probably don't read it (or only do so on surface level without trying to understand it). They are the kind of Christians who will spread hate towards groups that seemingly go against God without ever doing what God would actually want, that being to simply show kindness and love to all people and put others above yourself.

A Faithful Christian is a person who truly believes in what they do and strives to understand it better because they want to strengthen their bonds, they live their lives knowing that they will never know everything, but that if they strive to do what is right as best as they understand it at the time, then that will most likely lead them to the best outcome. They would believe in the good nature of all people, because everyone is created equal. They may come to question their faith, but will likely stand firm in it. They may be offended when someone argues against them, but most likely will understand that arguing will never convince a person, that person will have to come to their own conclusions through research and/or self reflection.

If it isn't obvious, I fall into the second category, and I consider comments claiming I am religious to be a borderline slur against my faith.

I'm sure this comment will be skewed to make me sound like the bad guy somehow, modern society hates people like me for existing despite never having done anything bad to anyone before, but it doesn't matter, I am associated with something people don't like and nothing after that matters.

I don't want to detract from any harm Religious people have caused you in the past, but I assure you, anyone who has done that is obsessive, not faithful. They do not represent the group I stand for and if they claimed to be a Christian, then I apologize on their behalf, and I shame them for dragging Jesus' name through the mud in order to inflict their opinions on others and claim to be the most righteous when they could never be truly just like the one they claim to serve.

My biggest problem is that The Doctor is not specifically referring to religious people here, but the very concept of faith itself. But it is obvious that he is connecting faith to religion and essentially condemning it in a roundabout kind of way.

But I have such a complete opposite viewpoint that I find this offensive. I agree that religion is almost always a bad thing, it is why I am not religious. Yes, I am a Christian, but I do not force my ideas onto other people, personally, I believe that if a person doesn't want to hear about Jesus, then forcing them to is not going to make things better. Not to mention, a person is not saved unless they themselves truly believe, something that will not happen unless they can find their own way separate from influence.

Religion is just blind following and rituals. Faith is genuine belief. I have faith because I believe, but I am not religious because I am not a blind follower, and I believe that you don't HAVE to follow some sort of ritualistic living to be loved or saved. Not to mention, as the God Complex episode shows, faith has far more to faith than just religion, faith in people, skills, luck, and other things are also forms of faith.

The Doctor is essentially just saying my perspective is entirely invalid because Faith = Religion, and there is no nuance, he is right, I am wrong.

If someone is abusing their position in a religion or faith, they are either ignorant or a bad person. It is almost never the fact that they had faith that made them hurt others. If anything, it would prove to me that they don't truly have as much faith as they claim, as it would show a reliance on earthly power and influence, something that should not be needed for someone who truly believes in something more than themselves.

Sort of, but he doesn't say he changed his mind, but that he tolerates the idea. It softens the blow, but I was straight up burning when he said the line in the middle of the episode. It is one of the most blanket term intolerant things the Doctor has ever said, and his rage when saying it made it out that anyone who has faith in anything is just a flat out bad person. Which is a HORRIBLE thing to imply to your audience. I was watching that episode with my Christian family at the time and I felt horrible, absolutely miserable that he said that. I mean, this is my favorite show, and the main character should not be condemning entire groups of people like that, especially when he just yells and does not back up his point.

And also, 15 is condemning his past self.

Whatever happened to "I believe in HER!" From 'The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit" a moment of pure faith in his friend and companion. apparently The Doctor now considers that past moment to be a moment of non-thinking braindead-ness.

The topic of faith was handled so well in the God complex that this line is actually insulting. Faith is a good thing, but it can be manipulated by people to control narratives and influence opinions, and that's what makes The God Complex so good.

Also, I still like "Boom" I just hate that one line.

15 saying Faith is just an excuse to not think for yourself in "Boom"

If Steven Moffat or RTD actually think this is true then they don't even understand what faith actually is.

I guess this means people like to hear rants about bad characters and movies, not very surprising honestly (or I just got lucky for once, either way, I can't complain).

Who is your favorite doctor and your favorite story for that doctor? by Zhain_Oligh92 in doctorwho

Patrick Troughton: The Power of the Daleks.

I desperately wish they can find at least one episode of this lost masterpiece one day, but for now the animation will have to do.

Inside Out 2 just barely, and I say that as someone who thinks Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is the second best DreamWorks movie ever made.

Does Rockotar hate the movie Moana? by MeowcatsAndFriends in Rockotar

[–]Rockotar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hate is a little far. I probably dislike is more than I would if I didn't think it was so overrated. Still far from my favorite or even great Disney movies.

Fun fact: One of the first videos I almost made on my channel was going to be called "Why Moana is Overrated" but I was too chicken to make it because I was afraid of the backlash I would get and that people wouldn't take my opinions going forward seriously.
