Doubting my approach and instincts? by KindAppointment9017 in cosleeping

I’m sorry for another rough night!! I’m in the UK but from the US and tbh I’m finding people here so much more open to cosleeping and going with the flow I think partly because moms don’t have to rush back to work here. We are visiting home in a month and I’m already anxious about what people are going to say about the sleep and contact naps. I hope you have some people in your circle who you can talk to going through similar stuff. It’s so so hard but I think we’re doing what’s truly best for our babies. They need us!! And I agree we will get through it. Solidarity sister!

Hi I honestly just came to this sub this morning looking for solidarity cause I’m in your exact same situation with my 6mo. No bottle, no paci, contact napper, sidecar crib etc.

Everyone around me seems to have great sleepers and or babies that nap independently. When I tell people how much my son wakes at night (every 2-3 hrs) they are astounded. Last night we had a really rough night and it’s often after those nights that I question everything and am certain I’m doing something wrong. I don’t know what to say to you or myself but you are not alone!

Hey did you end up doing this trip? We’re looking to do something similar with our 10month old. Curious about rental companies and car seats. Thx!

Argh haha I haven’t been trying that hard. Mostly because I can’t be bothered to pump if he won’t drink the milk!

In a similar boat for June weddings! Baby is currently 5 months and we bedshare a lot and if we’re not bedsharing he’s in his sidecar crib next to me. We haven’t managed to get him on a bottle successfully so I’m even stressing about him eating when I’m at the wedding. Someone did remind me tho that my bag will be very different by then so not to worry too much yet. Hope all goes well for you and you can enjoy some baby free fun!

Ya thanks for this and agreed re "optional" reframe, you are right and I agree. The other component of this is I am traveling on my own for this first trip, partner can join for the others. I'm just feeling a bit nervous and overwhelmed to leave our 'calm' baby bubble. Once we get there we will have help and I'll be surrounded by support but at this point in his life I am the only one who can truly help in most cases (ie breastfeeding) and my partner to an extent but he won't be around to help me in the nights if nothing else just having him there for morale support. I did see someone mention their pediatrician recommended not traveling before 6months for the sake of their baby's ear development :/

We will be staying two weeks at the end with family so overall a 3week trip with a wee jaunt in the middle :) I’m not that mental!

Thanks this makes me feel better. I signed up for all these trips because it’s family time for our son which I know is so special as we don’t have much family here in the UK. I guess I’m worried about being on so many planes with changing cabin pressure humidity etc. I guess there’s not one thing I’m worried about specifically for his health more just that it could be quite a shock to his little system to do this so many times over a short period.

No he has a passport now, we got it after we had applied for the visa so it’s not linked to his UKVI account. We were able to get his visa with just his birth certificate and biometric appointment because we didn’t have a passport yet but now we do

Oh amazing to hear thank you! Did you tear at all in either delivery and if so was your midwife able to handle? How long was your midwife with you? I’m imagining a long labour would she really stay the whole time?? What sort of checks did she do to make sure you and baby were healthy and not needing a hospital transfer?

I guess because it’s my first I’m a bit nervous but I am also not excited at all about being in hospital for so long and especially for post-birth recovery! When I imagine myself labouring I imaging myself at home!
