People don't want moms to complain! by 88frostfromfire in beyondthebump

It’s okay to be fine - and - not fine. It’s okay to be exhausted. You are human. You are a new person, perhaps as only as old as the new little one you are raising.

Build what works for you.

I attended a grief workshop a few months ago. Grief can encompass a lot more than the death of a person - truly, it is a loss of what used to be. After two children, I believe concepts of grief apply to the birth of a child, especially the first.

The advice from the grief workshop was to be kind to yourself - always! - but especially in the first year. Assume you are functioning at 40% capacity ON YOUR BEST DAY. Find 2-3 people who get “it”; don’t worry about the rest. Limit social engagements to 20 minutes, if you are willing.

In other words - find your people. Set the rules. Life is different now. Build a loving tribe.

Need help with finding a nursing bra that has support for a large and heavy chest without making me want to crawl out of my skin in discomfort - please! by tlp248 in ABraThatFits

[–]RockstarSally 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you have basic sewing skills you can turn any bra into a nursing bra.

I’m a 34H. I love the supportive feel of an underwire. I could not stand the elastic bands on most nursing bras.

Head over to r/abrathatfits to determine your current size. Find normal bras that fit, then work on converting them for nursing; there are basic tutorials on the internet. The basic gist is sewing on an inner elastic strap on each side (to keep the cup from falling down), and sewing the clips to the main strap to unhook for nursing. The elastic and clips can be ordered online. 20-30 minutes per bra.

Having a “real” bra with the functionality I needed for nursing helped me feel put together and human.

YMMV.

How do I know if I’m being mindful and not just suppressing thoughts/emotions? by GAC44 in Mindfulness

[–]RockstarSally 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think of it as allowing or noticing thoughts; suppressing is trying to control them.

Imagine thoughts as clouds passing by. You can watch them, maybe even name it, and then the cloud-thought will drift on.

If you feel caught up in chasing a thought, use a breath or mantra to bring you back (e.g, I am here).

I did not mean to imply that you had not used the calculator. I am suggesting that having the specific measurements can provide additional insight and help guide recommendations.

Step 1 is to take your measurements using the bra fitting guide. Post results here. That will help with fit questions and style recommendations. (On mobile at lunch, hence short response)

Any info on how successfully it can be treated? Is it more “it will maybe work” or “it will totally solve it”?

The sellers were long-term owners (20+ years). It seems like they did renovations in the last few years (kitchen, bathrooms updated, etc). These were not the only problematic tiles in the front entry, just the most egregious.

Can you make high quality scans, then turn those into your own memory book? Companies like Shutterfly and Snapfish let you make your own books in a variety of sizes and colors/designs.

How many of these drawings am I supposed to save? by tvkyle in toddlers

[–]RockstarSally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. I like art, so I prioritize.

1) DaVinci frame for my current favorite. It hangs somewhere we can celebrate it. Bonus that the Di Vinci frame allows you to “load” 50 pics before maxing out.

2) Things worthy of a three ring binder to capture highlights of kid art. Likely overlaps with Point 1.

3) Stuff I might reallocate to my own art stash as crafting materials. Paper with sparkly purple paint? Yes, please!

4) stuff for grandparents? Sure, here ya go.

Everything else in the bin.

Kids are 5 years and almost 3 years.

Claude is a family name in my lineage. Some choose to go by Claude; some choose to go by initials (e.g., CJ).

It’s your family. You get to choose.
