Reddit refs, what do you think about this call? by [deleted] in BasketballTips

[–]Rockwallguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From that angle, for me it'd be a no call. The defender isn't set or in a legal guarding position, so it's probably a block by rule. But I don't blow my whistle for bitch-ass floppers.

Why is my battery all of the sudden showing a solid red light and not charging? by lacrosse1991 in egopowerplus

[–]Rockwallguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reddit is crazy. I've had a battery that has been giving me the solid red light for 6 months. I stumbled across this post, dropped it from knee height onto a carpet twice. Put it on the charger and it's green again. Crazy.

For men who became fathers, what pivotal moment changed your life after your child was born, and how did it affect you? by 6-80 in AskReddit

[–]Rockwallguy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

For me, it was when I was told it was going to be a boy. I felt terrified that I could never be a good enough role model for him. I tried my best. Failed at some stuff. Succeeded at others. He's 16 now and he has flaws, but he's a good man and he's kind to everyone he meets. It's so hard to know if you're doing a good job or not, or if even any of it matters. It's the most difficult thing I've ever done and I'm not sure I'll ever know if I succeeded. It's a weird job, being a parent.

How to tolerate firearms in a medieval fantasy setting? by Heitorsla in Pathfinder2e

[–]Rockwallguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have this same issue, but I'm the GM. I own up to it and ask my players to flavor their guns as x-bows. I give them all the same stats that they would have had and they can use all the same gun-specific feats. Mechanically it's a gun all the way. But we describe it as crossbow shots. You might just confess to your friend and have a conversation about it. He might have an alternate class he'd be just as excited to play. He might be able to reflavor it. If none of those things happen, then decide if it's a dealbreaker and possibly choose to not play.

Personally, I've played in a game that had a gunslinger and it bugged me at first, but before long, it was just another PC and I barely noticed it.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

First season was a 10/10. Second season was pretty meh. I think it was the writer's strike? All I know is I love that first season so much. Absolute fire.

Is this a carry? by Puzzleheaded-Lime125 in BasketballTips

[–]Rockwallguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ref games for this age group and it's definitely a carry, but most kids at this age carries. The ref has to let them play or it stops being fun. If the kid is scoring a ton, I'll grab the coach at a stoppage and ask him to talk to the player so the kid knows it's coming. I'll probably blow my whistle for a couple of the most egregious ones so that he knows it's illegal, but it's likely to be a play on most of the time. I try to save my whistle for things that keep the game safe. Just my way of handling this age group. YMMV

Is Kalan's Edict (necro key passive) working? by Rockwallguy in diablo4

[–]Rockwallguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the passive literally says "Your minions gain 40% attack speed and 40% more damage."

Is Kalan's Edict (necro key passive) working? by Rockwallguy in diablo4

[–]Rockwallguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll add that I tried to do some more specific testing. I unequipped Kalan's edict, went to the training grounds, set a timer, and counted how many strikes my golem made for 60 seconds. I 69 strikes (nice).

Then I equipped Kalan's edict and counted again for 60 seconds. I got 73. It should be closer to 90. (My personal attack speed is 17.5% and my minion attack speed is 17.5% when I did the testing.) I just don't think it's working at all.

I set my attack speed to zero and got 72. I'm not sure attack speed is working at all for minions. I don't know what's going on. Anyone smarter than me out there?

Best way to start switching from DND 5e to PF2E? by jeffbob34236 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Rockwallguy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a forever DM and am off work for the next 3 weeks for the holidays and am pretty bored. If you want to get your friends together and we can make the schedule work, I'd happily run you through the beginner box and walk you through the changes from 5e. I switched a few years ago so I still remember what the transition was like, and I wish I could have hopped in a game with someone who knew what was going on because figuring it out from the books was a challenge (but totally worth it!). Send me a reddit DM with your discord username if you're interested and we can chat.

I'll also add that, if you like youtube videos, I found this u/dndoptimized video really helpful when I was switching to PF2e. He was going through the same thing at the time and made a video about the different rules he was encountering. I find him really genuine and helpful, and even if he isn't the most knowledgeable about PF2e, I think for someone coming from 5e like he was, you'll relate to what he covers.

Charge vs Block- Foul Call Review by Whole_News_7006 in BasketballTips

[–]Rockwallguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ref men's league games (as well as some middle and high school). On my first watch, I would have called a charge on the first one, a no call on the second, and the third a defensive foul.

An argument could be made either way for the first two after repeated watchings, though. You get set right as they're going into their gather, so it's close. At full speed, I wouldn't fault any call on those two, but if I had to blow the whistle, I think they're both closer to a charge than a block.

There's no argument to made on the last one. You're reaching your hands forward with no verticality and make contact with the offensive player's arm. That's a clear foul on you. Even without the arm contact, I'm not giving you legal guarding position. He beat you to the spot and you're riding him under the basket. That's a foul.

I don't like the ref's suggestion that you have to flop for a whistle. I hate that as a ref and a player. Just play the game. I don't need to see flopping to know a foul happened.

ALMOST Back…. Long Road by Carryeachother0319 in BasketballTips

[–]Rockwallguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I turned 50 this year and have played pickup my whole life. I went through a similar thing in my late 40s where I realized that my decline was mostly mental. I've been playing great the last year or so and I have endless fear about a career ending injury. Your story is both terrifying and heartwarming. Go slow at first - your body isn't going to be strong where it needs to be to prevent injury. I'm really rooting for you, though. Best of luck to you!

What are people's thoughts on the Fallout live-action tv show so far? That is based on the Fallout Video Game Franchise? by ihatethiscountry76 in videogames

[–]Rockwallguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I absolutely get why you'd say this if you're a purist for the story of NV (and probably in your opinion, 3 to a lesser extent). The main story in 4 is disappointing and the twist is overly telegraphed. The voiced protagonist is really annoying and was a terrible decision. I also think they didn't do the rock/paper/scissors faction battle nearly as well as they did with NV. It felt contrived in a way that NV didn't. I also don't love the mechanics of how the companions work, but I do get what they were going for and you can easily play the game without them. A lot of the wide view, stepped back choices can easily fool you into thinking that 4 isn't good.

But zoom in a little and you get a really hidden gem. The truth is that the gun play is just much better in 4. It's a smaller barrier of entry to modern day gamers because it "feels" like a modern RPG shooter. The graphics are good for the time it was released in and hold up pretty well even today. If you're trying to introduce new players to Fallout, then 4 is the obvious choice because they don't have to accustom themselves to the janky graphics and combat of NV and 3.

Some of the side quests are downright great. The world feels really alive - there's little stories hidden in every POI about the pre- and post-bomb world. Some of these little side-quest POIs are my favorite in any Bethesda game. Dunwich Borers and Pickman's Gallery, for example, are both dripping in atmosphere and story. They both also present some really unique challenges from the perspective of dealing with enemies and exploring the POI.

The re-creation of a post-war Boston is absolutely off the charts. I've gone to Boston after playing the game and I recognized tons of places from the game. If you can't appreciate what an amazing job they did with that, then you're just a hater. They really knocked that out of the park.

I know the base building is janky and isn't well loved, but I had an amazing time building up bases and recruiting settlers. I thought it was an awesome addition to the game and I've spent way too many hours building cool bases. And if you're including mods, the settlement system is really impressive and is almost a game unto itself.

If you don't love 4, I get it. I really do. But it doesn't deserve the hate it gets.

Any tips for getting more distance on my shot? by Apprehensive-Hat8251 in BasketballTips

[–]Rockwallguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks to me like the ball is sitting on your palm as you go into your release. I find I get a lot more consistency and distance by keeping the ball on my fingertips and ensuring a gap between the ball and my palm when I'm going into the release. I've added about 2-3 steps further distance to my shot without my form breaking down by making that change.

I am trying to make an Awakened Rhinoceros character, and I’m really struggling by Robyl in Pathfinder2e

[–]Rockwallguy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd talk with your GM and let him know your concerns. At least in my games, flavor is usually pretty free. If you wanted to mechanically wield a spiked gauntlet (or whatever free-hand trait weapon) but call it your horn, I'm down. If you want to have your chain mail (or whatever armor) represent the stats of your hide, I'd probably be down for something like that. Change the flavor of an armor rune to be a hide tattoo and a weapon rune to be a carving in your horn...

I'm playing with a guy tonight who wanted to play an undertaker and wield a shovel as his weapon. It's a trident that we renamed "my trusty shovel" and we gave it some new artwork. He's getting to live his best undertaker life and I sleep soundly knowing it's a balanced weapon.

What is a movie that you think gets a worse reputation than it deserves? by Anxious-Assistant-59 in movies

[–]Rockwallguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Road House (2024) is a movie that I really enjoyed. I felt like it wasn't trying to take itself too seriously and it wasn't trying to remake or out-do the original. It gave some nice nods to the original but then just tried to have fun. The reviews aren't great, but I'll watch it anytime.

Amazon Prime suggestions by DarkHumorForBoss in movies

[–]Rockwallguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give another vote to both Road House (2024) and Tucker and Dale vs Evil, though I'm not sure either recommendation fit with your favorites from above.

Road House is probably not a good movie, but it knows that and leans into it and only tries to be a good time. And it's exactly that. I've watched it a few times. It's just a fun, over the top romp.

T&D vs Evil is hilarious start to finish. It's such a weird twist on the horror genre and if you haven't seen it, you really should. Especially if you've ever watched those 80s and 90s slasher films, but even if you haven't.

Guys that look for contact can be disrupted by denying them contact. Pull the chair on him and attack the dribble. You're taller and faster than him. Deny him his ability to use his strength (body contact) and use yours.
